  1. No one is denying there is a problem. The majority of posters feel, and I totally agree with them, that a salary cap will do nothing to fix the problem.
  2. When I read that I thought about him too. I think it would really depend on how much money he wants. Based on the contracts pitchers have been getting this offseason I would think he would get at least $8 million a year. I don't think not pitching for a year is going to prevent someone from giving him lots of money.
  3. I got my letter from the DWD last week and it included a copy of the letter they sent to my employer and he has until January 2 to either pay me or come up with a good excuse as to why I haven't been paid. But wouldn't you know as luck would have it I ran into him at an event over the weekend. He reached out his hand to shake mine and I said "Do you have something for me?" He got this really confused look on his face and said "like what?" I said you owe me a check and he responds with "really?" And I go yup. So he says he didn't know and he will have it resolved on Monday and I walked away. I wanted to just leave it at that and avoid him the rest of the time so I found a place to sit and talk with a friend. A little while later he comes over by me all flustered and sort of angrily says, "Payroll won't be in on Monday so it will have to wait until Wednesday. I didn't know." and he huffed away. I call total [edited] on him not knowing. I've been asking them for the last 4 months and he should have gotten two letters from the DWD last week (my friend said he got the same letter I did about his complaint). What a piece of trash. I knew the guy was a crook from the very first time I met him and have heard other people say that too.
  4. What does this even mean?
  5. Not to take anything away from the achievement but what's the overall talent level of the DWL? A ball, maybe?
  6. No. Baseball isn't like football or basketball where almost 100% of your payroll goes into your "big league" team. If there was a salary cap, teams like the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, etc. are still going to spend as much money as before, it's just going to be allocated differently. Most likely to scouting and development which means the small market teams that HAVE to spend money in those areas are going to have to spend more to compete anyway. We might as well let the big teams blow money on aging vets in free agency that eventually become a burden instead of having them spend it in scouting and development where they would actually be making a very sound investment.
  7. Signed a minor league deal with the Cubs. No one here would have complained about getting him on a minor league deal.
  8. Yuck. Hats with a front white panel are the ugliest looking thing ever.
  9. Has Hisanori Takahashi's name came up at all as a reliever? I kind of assumed since he's bounced around in his short time in the majors he kind of sucked but I just looked at his stats and they are pretty solid. Here are his overall numbers in 3 ML seasons: 3.97 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9, 8.2 K/9, .246 BAA .238 BAA vs LHB .252 BAA vs RHB However they get better as a reliever: 3.59 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9, 8.4 K/9, .229 BAA Obviously not a lights out guy but doesn't walk many and strikes out his fair share. Plus, he'll turn 38 during the season so probably won't be asking for multiple years and this late in free agency he should come pretty cheap.
  10. For those interested the last day the museum is going to be open in the original factory is this Saturday. Below is information about the event. If you have an interest in art, wood working, graphic design, history, manufacturing, or printing or if you know someone that is this would be a fun day. Heck, you might be lucky enough to meet me! If you can't make it but still have an interest I'm sure they would greatly appreciate a donation or purchase from their online store.
  11. Victorino is about a month older than Ross.
  12. I thought Cody Ross was a greatly over rated player until I looked up his stats and he's really not that over rated. Victorino is is making $13M a year and Ross is making $9.5 in his highest paid season. If we're talking contracts I'd take Ross but if we're talking just the player they are probably a horse a piece.
  13. Just saw on MLB Trade Rumors the Rangers have said they have no interest in Lohse. No one should, but someone is going to give him multiple years and multiple millions for an extremely below average to terrible pitcher. Please don't be Doug.
  14. The only thing that needs to be rebuilt is the rotation and it's not like it's in total shambles. The team doesn't have all kinds of holes that need to be filled. In fact the only places they are lacking talent (SS and SP) they already have young players in place. So I really don't know what they could/should try to rebuild anyway.
  15. He's a closer. Easily replaceable so you might as well get something for him before you have to start paying for his saves. I really hope the Brewers do it with Axford.
  16. Choo was in his last year so they traded him for some very good players and then basically resigned him.
  17. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/12/diamondbacks-to-sign-cody-ross.html Not really sure what the Dbacks are doing. Their outfield is full already. You would have to think that Upton or Kubel is getting traded.
  18. Veras wasn't great last year but he wasn't the total disaster some made him out to be either and he almost was better than Axford too. Axford 2012 4.67 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 12.1 K/9, 5.1 BB/9, 1.3 HR/9 Veras 2012 3.63 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, 10.6 K/9, 5.4 BB/9, .7 HR/9 In almost the same amount of innings John gave up twice as many homeruns. Now I'm not saying I'd take Veras over Axford or that I even want Veras on the team but for all the flack he caught he wasn't that bad.
  19. As soon as they find some hitters they might not have a bad team.
  20. First snow of the day that is actually sticking is falling right now. I think you can put the Manitowoc and Two Rivers totals at about 2 inches of slush and a light dusting.
  21. No Melvin already said he'll be in the pen to start, and I don't know why everyone thinks having a LHP in the rotation is a requirement. I'd much rather see both Peralta and Rogers in the rotation than Narveson. I don't know why everyone makes such a big deal about a lefty starter either. Put the best 5 pitchers in the rotation. Who cares what hand they throw with?
  22. Not sure why this is a bad contract. The cost of pitching is only going to go up in the future and for 4 years of a younger, above average pitcher this deal seems good. When you then factor in they have a payroll where you can take some gambles I think it's a really good deal.
  23. I'm guessing his reasoning is because the opposing lineup will be stacked with righties who will pull the ball to third more often.
  24. More rain than snow all day in Two Rivers. There's about an inch of slush on the ground but so far this storm has been a dud here.
  25. Exactly, no team is going to give up anything of value for him. He's 27 and doesn't even have 300 MLB plate appearances yet.
