  1. seems like a nice move for both Huddy and the Giants. Should be pretty solid for two more years, especially in that ballpark
  2. Miller Park has a great location. Downtown locations can give great views and settings, but they are nightmares for traffic. That's why Miller Park is in a great location to serve Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Washington, and other counties. I read the articles on the Braves' move and figured it had to be related to location and Atlanta's legendary traffic. Too bad the league still can't get the A's where their fans are.
  3. MU looking fine so far. My favorite frosh the last two years (Mayo and Taylor) have been looking good against weaker competition. I really don't see much to like about Derrick Wilson. I think Otule is a bigger outside shooting threat. Dawson looked quick and able to drive and dish on Tuesday. I'm assuming Duane Wilson won't be back until late December, and up-to-speed until February. So unless Mayo plays plenty of PG or Dawson impresses, I'm a bit worried. Jamil Wilson shows flashes but seems to leave every game without ever reaching his highest gear. Until the NCAA tourney last year, he reminded me of the Bucks' bust, Tim Thomas. Too many outside shots and not really using his athleticism to blow past guys. Hopefully he plays better as he gets more time in games against better opponents. Lots to like about Marquette this year.
  4. I hope it's Hart. I'd hate to have Morris become Barker 2.0
  5. nope, I would only consider trading him for Price, and even then I'm not sure I would do it.
  6. my favorite day as a kid was replica bat day. Do they still do that?
  7. jjgott, it's not as simple as giving them a qualifying offer and them accepting. If they offered the QO and expected Lincecum to take it, he might have just bolted on principle. No player wants to have their salary dictated to them after their first few seasons
  8. seems like a good deal for both to me. Lincecum has had a fantastic career. He's still pretty effective. He has a lot of upside. The Giants are committing to only 2 years. 2 years ago this deal would have been for 2 years and $60 million. To get him for $17.5 million per year on a short-term commitment seems great for both sides. People freaked out when the Dbacks gave Randy Johnson a huge contract after the M's and Astros were afraid of his back. People freaked when the Astros gave Clemens huge 1-year contracts with the ability to leave the team between starts and only pick 3-4 months. People freaked when the Pirates signed Liriano for a great contract (I wanted the Brewers to sign him). I'm not saying Lincecum will be great, but I'm also saying that it's rare that pitchers go the way of Dontrelle Willis and lose all effectiveness. Lincecum has plenty of time to make adjustments and has been remarkably injury-free in his career.
  9. rwa, that's awesome. My mom got 14 years out of her kidney. I was 17 and in high school and she passed away last year at the age of 70. My 2nd cousin got a new liver at about 6 months old. He's now 17, doing great, and a spokesman for the Arizona liver and transplant foundations. Congrats. Please keep us all updated.
  10. Carpenter had a very nice career. He's also a reason to not get down on young pitchers. He and Halladay were absolutely awful (Manny Parra-like) at times in their early Toronto days. Yet both wound up being VERY good pitchers.
  11. I was viewing it as the Rays love getting back #2-4 type pitchers (they somehow get #2 type work out of them). I was actually thinking of giving them another pitcher. Nelson is going to be very good. Thornburg looks like a Rays-type #3 pitcher. I still think Morris isn't a big league starter, but I'm hoping they're fooled. I also thought giving them an above avg right-fielder that's cheap would be good.
  12. I would think that Nelson, Thornburg, Morris, and Aoki/Davis would be a fair deal. Talking about a potential #2, a potential #3, a solid OF, and a potential DH/1b
  13. I have to say that I really enjoyed it when Sheets beaned Bonds. I remember he opened an at bat with two ridiculously inside pitches that nearly hit Bonds in the butt. After two failed attempts, the Brewers shifted gears and just intentionally walked Bonds...in the first inning.
  14. sveumrules, I don't get why Theo will be successful in Chicago. He's got a farm system, but as history wound up showing, in the long run he had many misses in Boston. Theo's star had faded long before the Cubs got him. While he's a favorite of the saber community, he really had a lot of players fall into his lap.
  15. just wanted to mention that Bedard and Liriano would have been nice bargain options. MNBrew and JJfanec...I may not be right very often, but I think this is a great reminder that we can't always sign a player based on what he did the previous year or two. If that's what teams did, Chris Carpenter would never have been a Cardinal after his crappy Toronto years.
  16. after serious knee injuries slowed Jason Kubel, he's been pretty good. I really hate losing Gamel when we have no 1b currently and no 3b after 2014 (he's really not a 3b anymore, but he could have been a fill-in)
  17. Just curious, but why were they waived? Both could have been outrighted off the 40-man roster and remained Brewers' property (although rule V eligible). Gamel makes some sense due to his injuries and his defensive limitations (RF and 1b). Green makes a lot of sense for the same reasons, in addition to his lesser offensive potential. At least Gamel has the chance to be a plus bat. Interesting we've heard updates that Mat is resuming baseball activities, but we've heard no updates on Green
  18. BrewersSuperCollector, I'm not sure that Aoki is superior to Gindl. Gindl profiles as a guy capable of playing all 3 OF spots (like Aoki), capable of 10-20 homers, has shown nice OBP skills, and is lefty. He's not Aoki, but I think both are very solid options. I think that both Davis and Gindl will have stints as starters for at least a few MLB seasons
  19. It should start next week. When I used to work it, the players reported during the last week of the MLB season, then the Fall League started. Often big leaguers (september callups) didn't report until the 2nd week
  20. the only season in the last 22 years where I stopped watching the Brewers was the last season with Macha. Since Ron is light-years better, I'm very happy to have him back. I've made it well known over the years that I loved the Yost-Maddux combo, but Ron isn't far behind.
  21. I haven't looked it up, but has Beckett had a good season in the last 8 or so years?
  22. I still think he's going to wind up with a career like a poor man's Sheffield. He'll have some very good years, but he'll be traded over and over, whenever he starts to complain about teams not winning and being treated poorly.
  23. The Braves' tv crew (from the MLB.com highlights) seemed really fair. They were pointing out Maholm staring down Gomez, Gomez acting foolishly, Freeman acting crazy, their past history, etc.
  24. McCann deserves a fat suspension and fines for serving as an instigator. Gomez acted stupidly and should be fined, but his actions did not lead to the fight. Even the mouthing off with Freeman and Maholm did not get the fight going. But McCann blocking the plate?!?!?! I'm not happy with Gomez, but I think McCann has acted shamefully this season. From my recollection this is the third major incident that he's played a major role in. Gomez was foolish, but why was Maholm staring him down, too? Didn't he just serve up a homer to a guy that's owned him throughout their careers? Bazinga, I don't support Gomez, but he stops and stares at every homer, just like 50% of major leaguers. Normally Gomez sprints around the bases like he's trying to leg out a triple. This time he acted foolishly. But I really can't justify the actions of any Brave. Why was Freeman so angry and barking? Why was McCann cussing like a sailor and blocking the plate? Why was Maholm staring back? I think the SS and 2b had the right approach...just turn and let the guy get around the bases. Maholm could have hit Go-Go his next time up, and it would have been a lot more productive than the stupidity that McCann showed.
  25. What's weird is that I still have 1998 Brewers playoff tickets. I guess I must have lived in some alternate reality during high school in which those tickets actually wound up being worth holding onto.
