  1. Houser at the moment has pretty low trade value. He’s not good enough as a 5th starter to interest a contender based on last years numbers. He doesn’t have enough upside to interest a rebuilding team as a reclamation project. His best place at least until the trade deadline is here in Milwaukee either in the bullpen or as rotation depth.
  2. If he signed a 5+ year contract today for some role with the team I would be happy but he’s had 1 foot out the door for years now and I don’t think he has done anything that significant in the past year
  3. Long term it might be good for people trying to watch the brewers but I think it would guarantee lower payroll for a long time. Since they apparently over paid for TV contracts.
  4. MLBTR is pretty good with their predictions and they have him at 2 years, $18M. When a guy is on the market for a long time like Chafin has been then they tend to sign for a bit less. So maybe 2 years $15M is my guess right now.
  5. Good points, thanks for posting the stats. I'd be happy with Chafin or Moore (Moore I like better). The advanced stats like xFIP are all priced in now because there isn't a single FO left that believes ERA is king. I'll take those warts over the worst guy in our bullpen currently.
  6. I wonder if Stearns has had less effect since moving out of the GM role. I'll miss him, the team will miss him, he's not going to be a lifer though so at this point I'd almost rather get it over with and get some compensation for losing him.
  7. Don’t trade away anyone unless they are planning to DFA him anyway
  8. I can’t really have an opinion about this one without figuring out who gets DFAd/traded/optioned. I want to keep Brosseau, I want to keep or trade Hiura, I want to keep the door open for Turang and I don’t want BA to be an every day starter in the OF for the season unless some unexpected things happen. Also what about Toro? Can we even keep him?
  9. Our 23-24 window is still so good that we would be fools to throw it away, although if they need to punt on 24 to trade away some pitchers while they still have some years of control left that is reasonable. Our window 3 years from now, it looks somewhat promising, but it’s really based around 1 elite prospect and his 300 PAs at age 18 and a number of good but not elite OF prospects. Honestly I’m more inclined to trade Chourio than Burnes this year if I have to choose but we should wait and see how things play out.
  10. Mitchell is such a wild card to me. One person could look at him and say he is poised to be one of our best all around OF next year. Another could say he’s a nice 4th OF. I’ll be interested to see how he plays and I’m hoping he feels the rookies coming up behind him and hits well enough to demand playing time.
  11. I think by June they are using Yelich Mitchell Taylor Wiemer Frelick. Hard to say how that is going to play out but they are probably hoping to push Taylor to a 4th OF role and realistically at least 1 of the rookies gets kicked back to AAA due to performance and/or injured. Maybe at the deadline they are looking for a veteran rental to use alongside the best rookie.
  12. Victor Robles is a good reality check, Nomar Mazara is another one. Jackson is not a sure thing and I think he is the weakest prospect listed in the initial post except maybe Bichette. Glad to have him on the Brewers though and hoping he can have another good year. I was always a little down on Arcia because I hated the argument that “his offensive numbers are only slightly above average but he’s really young so it’s impressive”. Show me you can hit in the minors before I’ll believe you can hit in the majors. This doesn’t apply to Jackson right now because he did hit last year but my point is that he has to show up big in 2023 because just being young is not a skill.
  13. I hate the delays caused by most challenge systems in sports, especially in low leverage situations, so hopefully they keep that in mind with whatever decisions they make
  14. I could not be less excited about Turang, I think this is highly likely
  15. Still not excited about him at all but a bright spot is that he hasn’t really played much since 2019 and he has bounced around a lot. So maybe we can stick him in AAA for the year and by June he is crushing minor league pitching again.
  16. I was excited about this because I remembered him as a promising player from a few years ago. Checked his recent stats and no longer excited.
  17. I would be happy to extend Urias on the right deal. He was a middle of the road offensive 3b last year and that is probably pretty close to his floor, I think he has some upside still too. He can play 3 infield positions. An extension is not committing to him as our long term 3b it would just be committing to him as an infielder or tradable asset. Players like Urias are great to have on long term contracts because if frees up trade or FA options. For example if the right 3b is available we could add him and send Urias to 2b and trade away 2b prospects. Or he can just stay as an affordable 3b or if they are really daring they could try him at SS again.
  18. Sure why not
  19. I don’t hate the idea of a Wiemer trade. He reminds me of Jay Bruce. Jay Bruce had a nice career but I’m not sure it’s what we need right now, The team batting average is too low I think. One issue though is that I think Wiemer might be slated to potentially play some RF for us in 2023. We don’t have many options there. We have 3-4 guys that could play there but Wiemer is the only one who actually has a RF grade bat and I think the best arm but not sure about the arm.
  20. Maybe I’m a pessimist but I’m starting to feel like the Chourio hype is getting out of control. I’m usually down on younger prospects because they flame out so often and he doesn’t have the mega prospect feel that I get from guys like Rodriguez or Luciano. I would love to see him have a strong start to 2023 and prove he belongs there. Right now it feels like he is living off of 271 very impressive PAs in 1 season.
  21. I can't believe I'm defending Hiura, I wouldn't mind seeing him go, but wasn't he a better hitter last year than Winker and Tellez?
  22. I was excited to see what Ruiz could do but this trade was 100% necessary the moment it became available
  23. Don’t read too much into the rule 5 draft. It doesn’t tell you anything about he farm. It’s mostly teams picking up $1 lottery tickets and occasionally winning $2.
  24. Burnes and Woodruff will get paid, no question about that, but the Scherzer and Verlander deals have nothing to do with them. Those are first ballet HOF pitchers coming off career years. Oh and they didn’t even have to commit long term.
  25. 119 WRc+ is an upgrade for us. He finished with .277/.333/.504 in his last 154 PAs. If he was as good as he used to be, he would be too expensive.
