  1. The Braves have taken Dansby Swanson & Max Fried each to arb twice in the last couple years. They are certainly not afraid to take their best players to arbitration
  2. Arbitration almost always leads to hurt feelings, this is nothing new and it certainly isn't a Brewers specific problem
  3. Yes they do, the Braves just did this same thing with Max Fried over 200k
  4. Someone clearly hasn't read the other thread, it's been explained numerous times how this isn't just over 750k Ps. Why do we have two separate threads on the same topic?
  5. Im interested in the timeline, obviously this isn't great anyway you slice but if you take "a couple of months" literally then we are looking at mid April which isn't awful
  6. What makes it a reasonable request? I think we'd all agree that on the open market Burnes would get over 30 mil easy so should he have requested that much? The precedent was set in January with Shane Bieber in a case very similar to that of Burnes, so the Brewers offer seems quite "reasonable"
  7. Yep and I think it's something the Brewers continue to try and do. They got something like 10 out of 11 signed before exchanging numbers? That's pretty good but obviously the one is a big one and has stirred up a ton of controversy
  8. And that's perfectly fine, people can root for whichever side they choose to root for. I personally root for the Brewers and could care less which side wins things like arb cases or CBA disputes. I was just trying to clarify what the system is designed to do. If you want to somehow blame Mark A and the front office for going through a system that the players initially proposed and have never seriously fought to change then idk what to tell you
  9. That's fine, and the players could fight for a different system during CBA talks if they want but they haven't done so(atleast in a serious way). You clearly have a bias towards the players and that's your prerogative. But until the system is changed this will happen over and over again, this isn't a Brewer specific problem or a Corbin Burnes issue, it is a system issue and the league and players are just playing within the rules that are setup
  10. I'm rooting for the Brewers, I don't really care who wins arb cases or CBAs or anything along those lines. One could make the argument that the Brewers "nickel and dimed" Burnes or they could make the argument that Corbin got greedy and pushed for a salary above what the precedent has been set at. It's clear an independent arbitrator agreed with the Brewers in this instance. I don't fault Corbin for trying to get what he felt he deserved and I don't fault the Brewers for doing what all 30 MLB teams do, it is literally what the system is designed for. And if you have an issue with the system then you should be mad at the players because this was their system that they fought to have.
  11. It's again worth noting this is a system the players originally fought for and won.
  12. It's basically legal collusion on both sides. Players this year as a group decided to ask for higher salaries to try and push precedents up and increase salaries across the board. Owners and front offices work to keep salaries down, players and agents work to push salaries up.
  13. As explained earlier this isn't just over 750k, the precedent would cost owners millions in the long run. It's also worth noting MLB teams often hire outside lawyers to make the case for them so the team doesn't actually have to bad mouth the player. The system sucks and often leads to feelings getting hurt, there really isn't a way around that
  14. Absolutely it does. I forget which article I read it in but it talked about how players in general were asking for more this year in arbitration in an attempt to push up precedents for everyone.
  15. Burnes was never going to extend with us, this 750k has nothing to do with it. Burnes might get the largest deal ever for a pitcher and the Brewers were never going to give that out
  16. It shouldn't be a surprise that the Brewers won their arb case vs Burnes. The MKE Tailgate guys laid this out on their pod a few weeks ago in good detail. The key thing to remember here is that arbitration isn't just specific player vs specific team but rather every player vs every team. The Brewers put in 10.01 mil because that's exactly what Shane Bieber got in a nearly identical situation to the current Burnes case. There is immense pressure from other MLB teams to not set new precedents as those will compound across the sport and end up costing all 30 teams millions, in fact before teams send their proposals to the specific player all 29 teams in MLB get to see that proposal first. The arb system sucks, obviously Corbin deserves more than $10.01 mil, but it's a system that the players originally fought for and won and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

  18. The Brewers win their case against Burnes so he will get 10.01 million next season
  19. WAR is a counting stat and when you are a DH you are getting 0 WAR from your defense.
  20. I would love to lock Urias down, I think his floor is being a high end super utility player and for the last 2 years he's been an above average starter. Extending him seems fairly low risk and wouldn't require breaking the bank.
  21. Projections aren't meant to be exact. They provide a bell curve to show the variation of each team as well which more accurately shows each team's probabilities.
  22. I mean this is just false. Here's a good Twitter thread on the subject that I highly suggest reading, basically what it comes down to is Packer stock guarentees that the Packers stay in Green Bay, they can't be bought by another owner and moved to a different location. It also lowers the tax burden because there is such a demand for stock. While it is true that "owners" don't make money on that stock that isn't the chief objective of people buying stock, the main objective is to keep the Packers in Green Bay Ask St Louis if they wish they could have done this to keep the Rams, or Seattle to keep the Sonics. I'm pretty sure those fans would have loved this option
  23. The Packers do get tax money, but it's just Brown County as opposed to the state, similar to the original 5 County deal of Miller Park
  24. Yep, I understand why. I was moreso commenting on the link that rondoman posting where it said the Brewers had never asked for any money
  25. Exactly, two separate studies commissioned which is why it's weird that the article you linked makes it sound like the Brewers never asked for money. Pretty clearly they want money to upgrade the stadium. The question is what the Stadium district is required to cover and what they aren't.
