  1. This sounds promising but I'll wait until I see the details
  2. It's good to see the Brewers still have a good reputation with a couple guys around the league
  3. Yea it's hard to say Mark A didn't spend extra last year when he raised the payroll by about 10 mil over their previous record amount. I'm not sure how high people expected Mark A to go
  4. I'm very curious if Voit's deal has an out clause in it because Voit does have 2 options
  5. Last year had a .282 OBP, 11 HR, 46 RBI, good for an OPS+ of 93. Like Voit has been a negative defender last few years. Would guess he is an option to be a stop gap until the young guys come up
  6. More depth and competition
  7. The Cold Brew podcast & the Brew Crew review are very harsh of Mark A and Co. I find the MKE Tailgate podcast to be the most neutral although that's not to say they are never critical of Mark A because they certainly can be, but it seems more justified and the reasoning is well thought out when they are.
  8. It should also be noted that Voit is a horrendous defender. His dwar in his career 22: -1.1 21: -0.5 20: -0.7 19: -1.9 18: -1.0 17: -0.1
  9. Sounds like he's three weeks or so from being able to start throwing based on those comments
  10. Voit seems really interesting, he's put up good numbers the last few years, he's had an OPS+ over 100 every season outside of his rookie year in 2017 so he's a good bat But he's limited on defense to only 1b or DH so very similar in that regard to Rowdy & Hiura. And he also has reverse platoon splits similar to Hiura so he's not a natural platoon bat. This might just be an insurance type of move for if Rowdy gets hurt in camp although that's what I thought Singleton was. Overall he seems like a decent player but with no natural fit on the roster so it's pretty interesting
  11. An interesting signing
  12. Some really interesting comments on today's Effectively Wild podcast by Todd Rosiak regarding the Burnes arb case. Stated that he had it on good authority that Burnes embellished quite a bit what the Brewers argument during the hearing was and that Burnes knew how the fan base felt about the ownership so he was very calculated in what he said
  13. I'd be absolutely floored if Lauer wasn't in the rotation all season barring some sort of injury
  14. https://theathletic.com/4230583/2023/02/20/mlb-salary-arbitration-cba-tension?source=user-shared-article A really interesting article about arbitration. It's on the Athletic so it's behind a pay wall but I'll include a few interesting quotes -The union is adamant that the current system should remain intact. “While we often disagree with individual hearing results, salary arbitration is a right that generations of players have fought for and defended despite MLB’s repeated attempts to eliminate it,” a union spokesperson said. “It empowers players who are under club control and their agents to negotiate a salary or, failing an agreement, to have an arbitration panel step in to determine that salary.” "Both sides will use any argument they believe necessary to win a hearing, but the clubs’ approach to arbitration has become more confrontational in recent years. The system was designed to foster settlements, yet virtually all clubs now adhere to a strict file-and-trial strategy, refusing to negotiate one-year deals with arbitration-eligible players" The article further states that owners would like to change the arbitration process to more fixed numbers based on performance, the union though doesn't seem to want to do that. Considering everything that has happened with Burnes & Hader this seemed fairly relevant
  15. I think the Brewers would need to fall pretty far out of contention to trade Burnes at the deadline. With the amount of blowback the Hader trade got I can't see them going down that path again, and that's with being able to look at that deal and call it a win
  16. The Brewers literally had the 2nd highest OPS with RISP last year
  17. It's almost as if every team does this
  18. Out of curiosity can you explain why we have two threads on the same topic? On other forums something like that happens they either merge the threads or lock one up so there is a centralized location for discussion, having two separate threads makes the conversation harder to follow
  19. I think it's more likely he gets non tendered next offseason then it is that we bring him back. He rates very similarly to Chris Carter who was non tendered by this same front office at the same point Rowdy will be at next year. Rowdy last year had a wRC+ of 110 which was 16th among 1b, he was also the Brewers worst defender by dwar. It's possible Rowdy tears it up next year or that he significantly improves his defense but without either of those occurring I can't imagine the Brewers will be in a rush to lock up an average bat at 1b who provides negative defense.
  20. The payroll has gone down by roughly the same amount they were supposed to get from Ballys this year. I don't think that's a coincidence
  21. I understand why Burnes & Hader would feel slighted, I will never understand why Cain did, the Brewers let him stick around to get his 10 years in even though he was terrible.
  22. I'm just explaining the system, I'm not pro players or pro owners.
  23. This was never about helping the team unfortunately, this is about helping all 30 clubs keep players salaries lower(and Burnes and his agent trying to raise player salaries). That's the system we have and it's unfortunate
  24. In a vacuum of course, if Burnes had asked for 20 million he'd be worth it but that's not the system we have and it's not changing. This is a system problem, not a Brewer problem
  25. Without knowing the context of negotiations that's a hard question to answer. As explained in the other thread this isn't just Burnes vs the Brewers, it's basically every player vs all 30 MLB clubs. When teams submit their proposals they first have to send them to all 29 other MLB teams before they send it to the player and there is immense pressure not to be the team who sets a new precedent because they precedent ends up costing all 30 clubs millions of dollars in the long run(think compounding interest). All 30 MLB Front Offices work together essentially to keep players salaries down league wide and every player and agent works to raise salaries league wide. It is essentially legal collusion and it was a system initially proposed by the players
