  1. Bauer at 82 pitches. The fewest pitches Bauer has thrown in a game this year is 96, but his spot is also due up 3rd this inning. Sort of curious if they roll with him or pull him in favor of a pinch hitter.
  2. What are the chances at some point tonight we go from “please anyone but Lauer” to... “I can’t believe they didn’t start him against the Dodgers in the playoffs last year!”?
  3. Two long fly balls to the warning track so far. Those would’ve been nice to get on the board versus Bauer.
  4. Keston Hiura sitting for a second day in a row, he did have a pinch hit appearance for a double yesterday.
  5. That’s hard to say. If he’s on the COVID IL due to contact tracing he could be cleared by this weekend. That’s obviously the very best possible scenario right now. If he is COVID positive, then yeah he’ll be out awhile.
  6. Adam McCalvy seems to be speculating it could be the COVID IL (which can be due to contact tracing needs, and not necessarily just for a positive test). The team didn’t designate him for the “10-day Injured List” which they did do with Zack Godley. There is no restriction on the minimum number of days for someone placed on the COVID IL. EDIT: Here is the wording from the Brewers directly... RHP Corbin Burnes placed on the injured list. RHP Zack Godley placed on the 10-day injured list with a right index finger contusion.
  7. Well this has certainly been a bad news day for Wisconsin sports.
  8. Right. He looked pretty terrible in his 11 innings of work last summer, but the guy has 260 MLB innings of solid, if unspectacular work to his name. Could be he isn't as good as his Padres numbers indicate, but I would bet that he's a better pitcher than what his 2020 Brewers small sample indicates as well. It sure is a good thing that the Brewers stood by Burnes rather than determine that his terrible 2019 was the gospel. He looked pretty bad in 8.1 innings last year. His first relief appearance against the Cubs (2.2 IP) he actually looked outstanding (6 Ks, 1 H, 1 BB). What did concern me last year was he seemed to throw Narvaez under the bus a bit after his first start against the Reds (something along the lines of not being on the same page). That seemed unnecessary, and hopefully is water under the bridge at this point.
  9. Fixed. Haha, fair enough.
  10. I peeked at the Brewers June Schedule. Theoretically there should be a lot of wins in there. Rockies 7x Dbacks 7x Reds 6x Pirates 3x Cubs 3x Tigers 2x

  12. Counsell mentioned in his post-game press conference the Brewers indeed wanting their starters to get 5 days of rest between starts. If that’s the case they’ll have to figure out who is going to start next week in place of this Anderson/Godley spot. Here is how the rotation is setting up for the remainder of this streak of games without a bye (assuming they stick with the 5 days of rest, and give Lauer another turn for this stretch with a 6th starter). I believe May 4th is the first day Anderson is eligible to come off the 10-day IL. April 29 vs. LAD - Lauer April 30 vs. LAD - Peralta May 1 vs. LAD - Woodruff May 2 vs. LAD - Burnes May 3 vs. PHI - Houser May 4 vs. PHI - TBD May 5 vs. PHI - Lauer May 6 vs. PHI - Peralta May 7 vs. MIA - Woodruff May 8 vs. MIA - Burnes May 9 vs. MIA - Houser May 10 - BYE
  13. I think it's just part of the workload management of going from a 60 to a 162 game season. Teams will handle it in different ways; Brewers will generally keep pitch counts fairly low I would think, and temporarily going to a 6-man rotation is another way. I would expect we'll see this any time there are a lot of consecutive games without offdays, that there will be spot starts made. That Lauer has a great record against the Dodgers might have contributed to this too, even if their lineup will look rather different to when he last played them. Agreed, I think this is merely an indication they are going to try to keep their starters spaced out with 5 days of rest between starts. I don’t have any problem with that, I think it’s probably in the best long-term interest of rotation and I’m sure they have some data that supports better starts from pitchers on 5 days rest as opposed to 4 days rest. Lauer v. Bauer didn’t go so well last year, but Lauer’s Padres won the matchup (3-2) the first time the two faced off against each other in 2019.
  14. So if that’s Marty’s definition of obstruction in which he claims it doesn’t matter how far onto the grass the runner goes then every batter from this point forward should be taught that any occurrence in which they ground out to the pitcher they should simply run at him as he’s fielding/throwing the ball.
  15. Pat Murphy, forever the mentor. Glad he let Foster know he’s a trending joke right now.
  16. Well he’s always been good offensively in Milwaukee, just now I don’t swear as much.
  17. Kolten Wong is such a fun player to have on “your team”, I hope he continues to twist the knife on Cardinals fans this season.
