He got through the 10th inning unscathed. That wasn’t his best outing, but they also weren’t hitting rockets off him. The handful of times I’ve seen Nelson pitch this year he’s shown glimpses of him turning into a pretty good reliever.
It’s amazing how quickly the Reds went from scoring a ton of runs and being discussed as the darlings of the early season to last place in the NL Central. They’re on a 7-game losing streak and head out west to play the Dodgers starting tomorrow.
Yes, the Brewers have gone 2-1 in all three series against the Cubs for a 6-3 season series lead. For the Cubs to win the season series with the Brewers they would have to go 7-3 or better over the final 10 games.
Via Adam McCalvy... Kolten Wong off the IL: 7-for-13 in the series with a walk, two doubles, a homer, two RBIs. Two runs scored and he's out there now with a chance to score another.
I am normally not into the idea of benching guys for mental mistakes, but in Avi’s case it’s just a terrible effort and something that can’t happen after you’ve played 1,500+ games over your professional baseball career.
I don’t have an issue with guys being pulled after 90+ pitches in April. I do get the sense they’ve sort of made up their mind to limit the starting pitchers from over usage at this point in the season. One challenge will be keeping the bullpen fresh if they regularly have to go 3-4 innings a game for the foreseeable future.
I guess the “good news” is that’s the end of Arrieta’s day. What a disappointing inning for the Brewers. I don’t think one run is going to get the job done today.
Speaking of the Dodgers, if I did the math correctly this is how the Brewers-Dodgers series probable pitching matchups are currently projected (obviously it’s subject to change)... Thursday: Freddy Peralta vs. Trevor Bauer Friday: Brandon Woodruff vs. Dustin May Saturday: Corbin Burnes vs. Julio Urias Sunday: Adrian Houser vs. Walker Buehler
So McCavly says it’s 4 for 8 thrown out, but I’m pretty sure he’s 4 for 9. If it is 4 for 8 then he would be tied with Roberto Perez for the best percentage in the league, Perez is 2 for 4.
When are teams going to learn you don’t steal on Omar, SMH. In all seriousness, Omar Narvaez has now thrown out runners on 4 of 9 stolen base attempts. That’s the second best caught stealing percentage among MLB catchers this season.
