  1. So should this be moved to an optimism thread? Or... not?
  2. That's certainly true. It's also why the Brewers approach of acquiring talented players in their late mid-to-late 20's that haven't fully clicked yet has some merit (i.e. Billy McKinney, Daniel Vogelbach, Dustin Peterson, Dylan Cozens, Daniel Robertson). If the organization believes they can help make tangible adjustments or improvements for such players then it's certainly worth the fliers. Interestingly, one of Turner's big changes was his front leg having an elevated (almost exaggerated) lift. If you watch Frazier's current swing it almost looks like his front foot is stapled to the ground.
  3. The Rays had 8 players in the top 70 of that list. Sort of incredible to think the Brewers have two top 100 prospects, but they would rank #9 and #10 in the Rays system.
  4. Before we get too far along determining what a player's lack of upside is at age-28, a friendly reminder: 1) Adam Frazier has a career .749 OPS (a 100 OPS+) through age-28 which is perfectly league average. 2) Justin Turner, the player many of us are hoping for, had a career OPS of .684 (a 92 OPS+) through his age-28 season.
  5. College teammate of Brandon Woodruff. Frazier has been solid against RHP throughout his career. Wouldn’t be a bad pickup if they can figure out how he’d fit into the lineup.
  6. Via Jon Morosi: Once Justin Turner signs, teams should know relatively quickly how realistic a Kris Bryant or Nolan Arenado trade truly is. Bryant’s availability is well established, and some industry sources believe the Rockies are listening on Arenado.
  7. The poster was referring to Brewers GM, Matt Arnold.
  8. Granted he was a few years younger at the time (entering his age-34 season), but the Brewers ended up giving Aramis Ramirez $46 million over four seasons from 2012-15 (the Pirates paid for part of that final season). My biggest concern with a multi-year contract for Turner is that the Brewers end up deferring a bunch of salary that limits them financially in a couple of years as Yelich’s cost increases.
  9. Not a major deal, but the Mets have reportedly agreed on a trade sending LHP Steven Matz to the Blue Jays. Per Jeff Passan: The Toronto Blue Jays are finalizing a trade to acquire starter Steven Matz from the New York Mets for three prospects, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. There are also a lot of Mets fans that seem to think this move is foreshadowing a Trevor Bauer signing in the near future. Edit: Prospects returning to the Mets are reportedly Sean Reid-Foley, Yennsy Diaz and Josh Winckowski
  10. Yankees fans have seemingly included Florial in every trade proposal for the past half-decade.
  11. In case anyone is interested in watching 9 minutes of Rosario’s 2019 season highlights...
  12. This offseason they’ve now been rumored to have talked with Marcell Ozuna, Marcus Semien, Justin Turner, Joc Pederson, and Eddie Rosario. They aren’t having conversations with those players if they don’t have at least a little bit of money to spend. I’m not sure why it’s preposterous to think they could make a decent one or two year offer to someone. That doesn’t guarantee someone is going to take it, but it indicates they could spend some money for the right move.
  13. It’s also not a straight platoon though since they’ve shown a willingness to play Garcia in centerfield. They need to find ways to upgrade the offense, and using the outfield to do so presents more certainty than the majority of likely options at the corner infield spots.
  14. Haha good one. Why is that “funny” to you?
  15. The fact the Brewers have been reportedly interested in both Joc Pederson and Eddie Rosario makes me think they could be serious about adding a LHH slugging outfielder. Both have significant splits and are considerably better against RHP. Seems like a platoon partner might be preferred for Garcia. It makes sense because Garcia is much better against LHP. A platoon with Garcia and either Rosario or Pederson means the Brewers are likely getting an .825 OPS or better production out of that spot for the season.
  16. Where is Garcia? We benching a 10+ million player? That was addressed in the post you’re quoting.
  17. Andrelton Simmons reportedly signing with the Twins for one-year, $10.5 million (Link).
  18. I get the sense the Brewers might have one big 1-2 year offer in them this offseason.
  19. While he was coming up as a prospect he played a lot of second base, but has played almost exclusively outfield in the majors. I think he’d probably be able to play 1B, but not sure if he’d agree to sign if that was the primary plan.
  20. I think Rosario would unlock monster power numbers in Milwaukee. I really hope they do indeed sign him. I wouldn’t be shocked if he slugged >.525 at AmFam Field.
  21. I agree that being in the conversation is a positive sign. I also remain a little cautious about what exactly it means since it was speculated that the Brewers were in the Darvish bidding during his previous free agency, but reports following his signing indicated the Brewers weren't at all close to the dollar figure and years the Cubs ultimately handed Darvish.
  22. So to recap the current Turner suitors being reported: Dodgers Blue Jays Brewers Mystery Team My guess for the other mystery team would be the Braves. They've seemed a little hesitant to turn the full-time 3B role over to Austin Riley.
  23. Brewers are one of the "mystery teams" among Justin Turner's final four options according to Jon Heyman: The Brewers are one of two mystery teams showing interest in Justin Turner. Dodgers, Jays and one more mystery contender are in the derby. Turner will only consider contenders but has a final 4.
  24. I would be very excited to add Marcus Semien on a short term deal. I would be a bit more concerned if it was a longer term deal. Some of Semien's skill set is predicated on his speed (sprint spreed was still in the 80th percentile last year), but historically top end speed doesn't age well for most players as they get into their 30s. Regarding the 3B question, obviously someone like Semien loses value at the position versus being a shortstop. That being said, I think the Brewers do enough shifting where Semien wouldn't just be anchored to the traditional 3rd base role. He would be someone they could shift around to put in more advantageous fielding positions versus LHHs which would also allow them to possibly limit some of Hiura's deficiencies in those situations. I think he'd add a lot to the Brewers defensively, especially with the way they could deploy him around the diamond in different defensive alignments.
  25. I split out the Marcus Semien discussion since it is based on a report that the Brewers might be involved. Here is the Twitter link referenced.
