  1. Cubs reportedly have agreed to a deal with free agent reliever Brandon Morrow for a contract worth $10-$11 million per year (link). The length of the contract has not yet been announced.
  2. If the Brewers decide to move Thames there is another Santana that could be a solid (albeit more expensive) 1B option.
  3. Fangraphs has released their Top 30 Prospects: Milwaukee Brewers written by prospect writer Eric Longenhagen. The write-ups Longenhagen includes are impressive. Overall he includes some level of written details on a total of 59 Brewers prospects.
  4. From Jerry Crasnick (LINK)... Fiers had been non-tendered by the Astros last week.
  5. Reports that he is close to a one year deal with the Tigers (LINK). Edit: According to Jerry Crasnick it is a one year, $6 million deal. Also said the Orioles had offered a two year deal.
  6. With the Ohtani sweepstakes heating up it does seem like a unique opportunity to basically buy a prospect from one of the teams that still remain in the bidding. I like what the Twins did by identifying a couple of 2017 draft picks they wanted to acquire in exchange for their pool money.
  7. Both prospects involved, David Banuelos and Jacob Pearson, were 2017 draft picks. Which serves as a good reminder that recent draftees are likely to be a part of some of the significant trade packages we see at the upcoming Winter Meetings.
  8. Eric Longenhagen’s Brewers prospect list is due out on Fangraphs tomorrow. Here is what he mentioned in his Fangraphs Prospects Chat today...
  9. With the draft now just a mere six months away more scouting content is becoming available. MLB Pipeline released their initial Top 50 Draft Prospects list. For those interested here is the ARTICLE and here is the LIST. Also, this is a little older but from Baseball America’s initial (and way too early) Mock Draft they have the Brewers taking Georgia high school catcher Will Banfield. For the draft prospect lists, Baseball America splits their lists into College Draft Prospects and High School Draft Prospects.
  10. Al Avila seems receptive to the idea of trading away his young controllable pitching per this Fangraphs Article...
  11. Yankees GM Brian Cashman reportedly alluded to Ohtani’s landing spot likely being a smaller market West Coast team. So Seattle, San Diego, or Oakland?
  12. Sean Manaea is the pitcher I was hoping the Brewers would make a run at this past trade deadline. I am skeptical that the A’s would consider trading him with so many years of control remaining (controlled through 2022), but if so I would love for the Brewers to make them an offer. I was able to watch a couple of his starts last year and he has a really good slider when he can command it. I don’t know what it might take to get Manaea if the A’s were willing to deal him, but my guess is that if the Brewers were able to avoid giving up Brinson, it would be something along the lines of a package that included Luis Ortiz (or Corbin Burnes), Brett Phillips, and Monte Harrison. Admittedly that still may be a little light.
  13. Sign Carlos Santana to play 1B? It would allow for additional roster flexibility without having to use two roster spots to platoon at 1B. Dave Cameron made a good case for Carlos Santana being this year’s top value as a FA: The 2018 Free-Agent Bargins I would be for it. It would be a little tricky to navigate getting decent trade value for Thames either while good 1B options are still on the market or after you have made this move that in essence shows yours cards before you’ve been able to trade him.
  14. B.J. Surhoff jersey in that early 90’s grey button down style would be my go to every time.
  15. No, but he is playing this evening and had a triple in his first at-bat.
  16. I do not have well researched reasoning for this, but my gut feeling is that Lance Lynn would be a landmine for the Brewers.
  17. I get the joke, and it did make me chuckle. That being said, there is truth to the fact that his value today is higher than it was yesterday based on this contract. Add this extension to list of the calculated moves made by this front office that are tough not to like.
  18. This would sum up my thoughts also. I wasn’t a fan of the draft pick, but despite the disappointing results there are still elements of his physical abilities that leave hope he can develop into a major league contributor. It seems like scouts have always been higher on Ray than public opinion, and I think there are scouts that still see plenty of talent. That being said, I think next year is really important in terms of seeing improvements on the statistical end such as reducing his strikeout rate and elevating his on-base %.
  19. A simple two part question... 1) Who are the free agents you would most like the Brewers to target this off-season? 2) What type of offer (in total dollars and years) do you think would be competitive enough to get your free agent(s) signed? For Reference: 2018 MLB Free Agents
  20. I would like to see the Brewers sign Swarzak and I think there is a possibility of it, but I can't imagine him taking any kind of discount to do so. Unless there is a factor I am underestimating it would seem very likely that he is going to take full advantage of the opportunity to sign the wealthiest contract of his career.
  21. And I think it's gonna be a long long time 'Till touch down brings me round again to find I'm not the man they think I am at home Oh no no no... Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone And I think it's gonna be a long long time And I think it's gonna be a long long time And I think it's gonna be a long long time And I think it's gonna be a long long time And I think it's gonna be a long long time And I think it's gonna be a long long time And I think it's gonna be a long long time And I think it's gonna be a long long time
  22. The Brewers slot in at the #21 overall selection in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft (LINK). That is one spot behind the playoff bound Minnesota Twins. Other NL Central teams include the Reds (#5), Pirates (#10), Cardinals (#19), Cubs (#24). Under the new collective bargaining agreement all first round picks are now protected, so the highest pick a team that signs a free agent who received a qualifiying offer would have to give up is their second selection.

  24. Carroll is now just shy of 100 Midwest League plate appearances and has a respectable .276 BA / .357 OBP / .391 SLG slash line. Wisconsin Game Log The Rattlers gave up just 3 hits over the first 8 innings, but unfortunately 3 more hits in the 9th inning led to the game's only run. 25. Final: Quad Cities 13, Wisconsin 3 Quad Cities Crushes Wisconsin 13-3 Rattlers get late three-run homer from Orimoloye to avoid shutout By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers *** *** AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Soundcloud: "Matt Erickson is the lone guest on the Papa John’s Pizza Postgame Podcast after the Rattlers fall 13–3 to the Quad Cities River Bandits on Sunday. Chris Mehring & Kyle Lobner look for the positives and talk about other things, too." *** Wisconsin Box Score Victor Diaz rough season has continued in August after it looked like he was turning things around in July. After lowering his ERA with each appearance during the month of July he has surrendered 17 earned runs in four August outings and now sports an even 6.00 ERA. Wisconsin Game Log Tomorrow is "Total Eclipse of the Park" day at Neuroscience Group Field, but today looked like a total eclipse of the offense until Demi Orimoloye hit a three run home run with two outs in the 8th inning (his 11th HR this season). Orimoloye also added his 33rd stolen base earlier in the contest.
