  1. I would make a friendly wager on just the opposite occurring. Mejia has an elite hit tool, but my primary concerns are his small stature for the catcher position and that reportedly there have been issues with his attitude in the past. I think Brinson has a better chance to develop into a 4+ WAR player at his peak.
  2. We are at the 20 hour countdown until the trade deadline. MLB Trade Rumors released their up-to-date Top 25 Deadline Day Trade Candidates. Let's have some fun with it. Who do you think is on the move before tomorrow's deadline and where do you think they end up? Here are my guesses on some trade destinations... Yu Darvish - Dodgers Sonny Gray - Yankees Justin Wilson - Brewers Brad Hand - Rockies Lance Lynn - Astros Alex Avila - Cubs
  3. Well that didn't last long in Minnesota... Sounds like Yankees prospect RHP Zack Littell is coming back in return. Ironically Littell is the Yankees #22 prospect according to MLB Pipeline. Ironic because the Twins had traded away their own #22 prospect (RHP Huascar Ynoa) for Garcia last week.
  4. From Jon Morosi...
  5. Reminder that the Under Armour High School All-American Game is tonight at 7:00pm CT. It is available live on MLB.com and tape delayed next week on MLB Network. All of the details are available at this LINK.
  6. Just a hunch, but with Sonny Gray scheduled to start Sunday I think there is a good chance he gets traded in the next 30 hours. It seems like at this point if a team is going to trade for him they would be better off getting that extra start from him. If they wait until Monday to make the deal it would push back his first start for the new team to next Friday or Saturday. If a team acquires him before tomorrow's start he is likely to make 11 regular season starts for them, if they wait until Monday it will most likely be 10.
  7. That makes some sense, it just seems peculiar that Ramos was traded within the division to a team with a worse record. The guy probably thought he was going to be in a pennant race and now he is on a team looking up at the Marlins in the standings. Doesn't seem like the Mets gave up a ton, Gonzalez was ranked their #9 prospect on MLB Pipeline and Cespedes was #22 on that same list.
  8. It somewhat seems strange, but the New York Mets, currently with a 47-53 record, have acquired reliever A.J. Ramos from the Marlins (LINK). Ramos is controlled through next season.
  9. No matter how bad things go over the next 4 days I don't think the Brewers will turn into sellers before the deadline unless it is an under the radar move such as shipping a veteran off their Colorado Spring roster such as Ivan DeJesus Jr.. The thing to remember is that is doesn't matter all that much because should things continue to go south they still have the month of August to trade guys through the revocable waiver system. Guys like Braun, Garza, Sogard, Swarzak could be candidates to be moved in August. They could also float out some of their longer term assets in August as well, but I guess I would a little surprised to see them do that.
  10. Gomez was the Rockies #21 prospect on their updated MLB Pipeline top 30 list. I didn't see the other two listed.
  11. The Rockies make a solid bullpen addition (LINK)...
  12. Josh Hader's usage (or lack thereof) has been the single most frustrating thing for me this season. I am guessing they aren't comfortable yet with his control, but he is just so tough to square up that the walks don't bother me as much as they normally would. I think they are underutilizing one of the top 2-3 arms on their roster, and it is really costing them.
  13. Brinson Home Run and now the Brewers are only a grand slam away from a tie!
  14. I'm not trying to pile on here, but you know you have Blazek starting on the mound tomorrow and your odds of winning are going to be less than stellar. Why not use Knebel if you are going to pull Hader there? Brewers needed a strikeout pitcher in that situation against Zimmerman. It is so dejecting.
  15. Not sure to what extent the Brewers are "monitoring" him, but from Tom Haudricourt...
  16. The whole "Prospect Points" concept is flawed and lame, in my opinion.
  17. It's not an injury either per Adam McCalvy...
  18. Swarzak's 48.1 innings pitched this season ranks him 18th on the list of most innings pitched among relievers this season. The Brewers now have three players among the 25 most used relievers in baseball this season which in addition to Swarzak also includes Torres (50.1 IP) and Knebel (46.1 IP).
  19. Apparently Isan Diaz was next man up in the MLB Pipeline Top 100 Prospects list as according to Jim Callis (Tweet) he has now entered the list at #100.
  20. Jim Callis did acknowledge previously that Corbin Burnes received votes when they did their top 100 list.
  21. Haha, that thought crossed my mind as well. Funny how a week of losing games can feed into the paranoia that this move could have such an adverse consequence.
  22. Also notable is that MLB Pipeline updated their Top 10 By Position lists as well. Brewers appearing on those lists included 2B prospects Keston Hiura (#5) and Isan Diaz (#6) as well as Lewis Brinson who was ranked #5 among all OF prospects.
  23. The MLB Pipeline Top 100 Midseason List is out. That link is to the story about the list release, but for those that just want to get right to the complete list it is available at this LINK. Brewers on the list include: #15 Lewis Brinson #70 Corey Ray #83 Luis Ortiz #96 Brandon Woodruff #97 Keston Hiura Hader appears to have graduated off of the list. Here is the updated MLB Pipeline Brewers Top 30 Prospects.
