  1. Final: Dunedin 6, Brevard County 5 Jays rally to take down 'Tees, 6-5 Brevard eliminated from playoff contention By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/5/8/58423558/cuts/Suter_8.25_2_ibfl948z_174qx4j7.JPG Manatees starting pitcher Brent Suter had his shortest start of the season as he went just 4.1 innings in Brevard County's 6-5 loss to the Dunedin Blue Jays on Sunday evening at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) AUDIO: Game Highlights VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees and the Dunedin Blue Jays traded four-run innings, but it was the Blue Jays who came out on top with the 6-5 win to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Manatees on Sunday evening at Space Coast Stadium. Brevard's (27-32 second half, 64-62 overall) loss, combine with a Daytona win earlier in the day, eliminated the 'Tees from playoff contention. The Manatees now sit 9.5 games out of first place with eight games remaining on the schedule. Brevard got on the board in the opening frame, with Yadiel Rivera singling and scoring on a Cameron Garfield base hit. Dunedin (23-34, 60-63) took advantage of a walk, an obstruction call and a two-out single by Jon Berti to tie the game in the third inning. Brevard County quickly retook the lead as they batted around in a four-run third. A pair of walks opened up the frame and then a series of singles drove in all four runs. Mitch Haniger drove in two men, then Greg Hopkins, Ben McMahan and Brandon Macias each picked up RBI base hits. The final RBI single of the third came against reliever Wil Browning, after John Anderson gave up five runs on six hits with three walks in 2.1 innings. He struck out just one man. Browning would end up earning the win, representing the first in a series of strong relief appearances for the Jays. Once Browning entered, Macias' single was joined by a pair of Cameron Garfield singles as the only base runners allowed in 6.2 innings of work from the D-Jays bullpen. The Blue Jays scored another run in the fourth with three straight hits to open the inning, including an RBI double off the bat of Marcus Knecht which cut Brevard's lead to 5-2. Four runs in the top of the fifth, including a two-run homer from Michael Crouse, gave the Blue Jays their 6-5 lead at the halfway point. Brent Suter (7-9, 3.40 ERA) was lifted after the home run as he went 4.1 innings. He gave up all six of Dunedin's runs, with five of them being charged as earned. Suter surrendered ten hits and four walks, while recording just one strikeout. Stephen Peterson and Eric Arnett combine to allow just two hits in 4.2 innings with five strikeouts in relief of Suter. Brevard County's homestand will continue on Monday evening at 5:05 p.m. with a doubleheader against the Lakeland Flying Tigers to open a four-game series. Chad Pierce (5-6, 3.71 ERA) is slated to take the mound for game one for the Manatees against Lakeland's Wilsen Palacios (6-8, 3.46 ERA). In game two, Brevard's Taylor Mangum (1-1, 4.80 ERA) is scheduled to make his first professional start, with the Flying Tigers sending Patrick Cooper (2-1, 2.95 ERA) to the hill. 2. Final: Brevard County 8, Dunedin 1 Brevard blows out Blue Jays, 8-1 Six-run third leads 'Tees to third straight win By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/7/8/58272278/cuts/Rogers_8.24_2_xrixg154_qy21m0n9.JPG Manatees starting pitcher Mark Rogers threw four shutout innings in his fourth Major League rehab appearance with Brevard County, in the team's 8-1 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - Six runs in the third inning propelled the Brevard County Manatees to an 8-1, series-clinching victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium. The six runs for Brevard (27-31 second half, 64-61 overall) matched the highest run production in a single frame this season. The 'Tees also scored six runs in the eighth inning at home on August 9, en route to an 8-2 win over the Tampa Yankees. The big inning featured two walks, three singles and an error before a single out was recorded. Nick Ramirez, Mitch Haniger and Cody Hawn picked up a RBI each to make it a 3-0 game. The first two outs - ground outs by Greg Hopkins and T.J. Mittelstaedt - brought in a run each before Ben McMahan tripled to right to plate the final run of the inning, in the form of Hawn. McMahan's triple spelled the end of the night for Dunedin (22-34, 59-63) starting pitcher Aaron Sanchez who was charged with all six runs - three earned - in 2.2 innings. Sanchez surrendered five hits and four walks, while recording three strikeouts. Two more runs scored in the fourth behind another two singles and two walks, with Hopkins' bases-loaded infield hit sending both runs across the plate. Hopkins finished with three RBI, while McMahan, Yadiel Rivera and Cameron Garfield had two hits each. Both Rivera and Haniger scored twice. In his fifth Major League rehab start for the Manatees, Mark Rogers tossed four scoreless innings and allowed just two hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts. Dunedin scored its only run in the seventh, when Matt Newman led off the inning with a home run off of Matt Miller. Despite allowing the shot, Matt Miller earned the win out of the bullpen. The homer was one of just three hits he allowed in his three innings of work, as he struck out one batter and walked another. The home run was the first run allowed by the Manatees' bullpen, after tossing 21 straight scoreless innings over the last three games. Dunedin and Brevard County meet for the final time in the 2013 regular season on Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. Manatees' southpaw Brent Suter (7-8, 3.14 ERA) will be opposed by another southpaw in John Anderson (5-3, 2.47 ERA) for the Blue Jays. Final: Brevard County 3, Dunedin 1 Three-run second helps 'Tees edge Jays Barnes earns ninth win with six scoreless innings of relief By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/5/6/52654956/cuts/Barnes_7.3_tds82ieg_wd5msm2q.JPG Manatees pitcher Jacob Barnes threw six shutout innings out of the bullpen and allowed just three hits, while striking out six Brevard County's 3-1 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays at Space Coast Stadium in Viera on Friday night. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) AUDIO: Game Highlights AUDIO: Tyler Cravy Pre-Game Interview VIERA, Fla. - Despite going down 1-0 in the first inning, the Brevard County Manatees were able to come back and take a 3-1 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays to open an eight-game home stand on Friday night at Space Coast Stadium. Dunedin's first inning run was unearned as Jon Berti took a four-pitch walk to open up the contest. After he stole his league-leading 53rd base of the year, he forced a throwing error in the attempt to knock him down and took an extra bag. From third, he scored on Michael Crouse's sacrifice fly. Brevard County (26-31 second half, 63-61 overall) bounced back in the second, taking advantage of a pair of defensive errors. Cameron Garfield led off with an infield single and advanced to second when Cody Hawn grounded a ball to the first baseman. Trying to get the lead runner, shortstop Shane Opitz was unable to corral the throw to second, making both runners safe. Greg Hopkins then dropped down a bunt single, which resulted in a throwing error by catcher Derrick Chung. Thanks to the miscue, Garfield was able to score from second, Hawn advanced to third and Hopkins scampered an extra 90 feet to second. T.J. Mittelstaedt drove a two-run double to right-center, giving the Manatees a 3-1 lead that would last to the end of the ballgame thanks to stellar pitching from the 'Tees bullpen. After Damien Magnifico's two innings, over which he allowed just the unearned run on a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Jacob Barnes came on for six shutout innings. Barnes (9-5, 3.02 ERA) was credited with the win, giving up just three hits and a base on balls while recording six strikeouts before Tommy Toledo came on for the ninth, to earn his 18th save of the season. Starting for Dunedin (22-33, 59-62) was Scott Copeland, who was charged with two earned runs out of the three total that he allowed. In his four innings, Copeland surrendered five hits, issued two walks and struck out five batters. Wil Browning, Tony Davis, Jesse Hernandez and Ajay Meyer out of the Blue Jays' bullpen held Brevard County scoreless the rest of the way. Game two of the series takes place on Saturday night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. It will be a battle of starters on Major League rehab assignments, with Mark Rogers (0-1, 6.75) slated to take the hill for the Manatees against lefty Luis Perez (0-0, 3.00) for the Blue Jays. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - A five-run seventh inning for the Daytona Cubs spoiled a six shutout inning outing for Brent Suter as the Brevard County Manatees fell 5-3 on Sunday evening at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Suter (7-8, 3.14 ERA) limited the Cubs' offense to just four hits and a walk while striking out six. Suter left the game while leading 1-0, in line to receive the win. Stephen Peterson entered the game in relief of Suter in the seventh inning. Elliot Soto, the first man Peterson faced, reached base on a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Brandon Macias. Pin-Chieh Chen tied the game with an RBI single and that was followed by a Zeke DeVoss single. Wes Darvill loaded the bases with another bunt single. Dustin Geiger plated Chen from third and gave the Cubs a 2-1 lead when he bounced into a double play to Yadiel Rivera. Dan Vogelbach followed Geiger with a two-out, two-run home run and then Kris Bryant followed with a solo shot to make it a 5-1 contest. Peterson was charged with five runs and the loss in his only inning of work. The Manatees (24-30 second half, 61-60 overall) cut their deficit to 5-3 in the top of the eighth inning. Macias drew a walk to begin the inning, before D'Vontrey Richardson singled and Rivera walked to load the bases with no outs. Nick Ramirez followed Rivera's walk by recording a RBI ground out. Brevard County had kicked off the scoring in the top of the third frame. With one out in the inning, T.J. Mittelstaedt cranked a Scott Baker pitch over the right field fence for a solo shot, his 11th homer of the season. Baker was making his second Major League rehab start with Daytona (30-19, 65-50). He tossed three frames before being lifted. Baker allowed just one run on three hits. Austin Reed, with two outs in the ninth, allowed a double to Mittelstaedt and hit Macias with a pitch, bringing Richardson to the plate. Richardson, already with two hits on the night, struck out to end the game. The Manatees have Monday off before hitting the road for a four-game series against the Lakeland Flying Tigers (25-24, 55-62). Tuesday's series opener will be a scheduled doubleheader. 7. Final: Brevard County 10, Daytona 2 Double the fun for Brevard in 10-2 rout of Daytona 'Tees record seven doubles as Cravy fans eight in six innings By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/4/1/2/57363412/cuts/Cravy_8.17_1_0tf8kkwg_o56p230y.JPG Manatees starting pitcher Tyler Cravy allowed just one run and recorded eight strikeouts in six innings of work, in Brevard County's 10-2 win over the Daytona Cubs on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) AUDIO: Game Highlights AUDIO: Ben McMahan Pre-Game Interview VIERA, Fla. - A season-high seven doubles and another quality start from Tyler Cravy led the Brevard County Manatees to a 10-2 thrashing of the Daytona Cubs on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium. Six of the Manatees' (24-29 second half, 61-59 overall) seven doubles drove in runs, with Mitch Haniger providing three of them. D'Vontrey Richardson, Yadiel Rivera, Nick Delmonico and T.J. Mittelstaedt also had two hits each for the 'Tees. Cravy (4-2, 2.18 ERA) allowed just one run on five hits over six innings and has not allowed more than two runs in any of his eight starts this season. He did not issue a walk and matched his season-high of eight strikeouts, which he set in his last outing. The offense started right away in the bottom of the first inning, when Richardson reached on an infield single. Haniger then doubled as the ball went off the top of the wall and narrowly missing a home run, scoring the first two runs of the game for the Manatees. Brevard County kept it going in the third with another two runs. Nick Ramirez plated Rivera on a double, with Delmonico smacking a two-bagger to send Ramirez across the plate. Daytona (29-19, 64-50) scored its first run in the fourth inning, as a RBI double from Kris Bryant allowed Dan Vogelbach to hustle home from first. The Manatees answered right back in the bottom of the fifth with two more runs to extend the lead to 6-1. Ramirez walked and scored on Haniger's second double, with Haniger scoring on a Greg Hopkins single. Inching back in the eighth, Vogelbach walked and came home to score on a single by Anthony Giansanti. A big eighth inning saw the Manatees bat around for the 12th time this year, as they scored four runs. Singles from Cody Hawn, Mittelstaedt, Richardson and Rivera plus a wild pitch brought in the first three before Haniger capped off his night with his third RBI double. Six of the Manatees' runs were charged to Daytona starter Ivan Pineyro. He lasted five innings and gave up eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts. The teams return to Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach for the rubber match of the series on Sunday evening at 5:35 p.m. Southpaw Brent Suter (7-8, 3.31) gets the nod for Brevard County against Daytona's Scott Baker (0-1, 2.70), who is currently on a Major League rehab assignment. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) TAMPA, Fla. - Three runs in the sixth inning and a quality start from Jacob Barnes propelled the Brevard County Manatees to a 5-3 win over the Tampa Yankees on Thursday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field. With the game tied 2-2 going into the top of the sixth, Yadiel Rivera led off the inning by singling to left and then stealing second base. Nick Ramirez then reached on a single to shortstop Cito Culver, whose throwing error allowed Ramirez to move to second and Rivera to score. Later on in the frame with two out and runners on second and third, Greg Hopkins reached on an error by first baseman Jose Toussen, which allowed Ramirez and Nick Delmonico to score and give the Manatees (23-28 second half, 60-58 overall) a 5-2 lead. The only two runs that Barnes would allow in his six innings of work came in the third inning. Peter O'Brien plated Taylor Dugas on a ground out to shortstop and then Jose Toussen doubled to center to score Robert Refsnyder. Barnes (8-5, 3.21 ERA) scattered five hits and walked one, while striking out two to earn his team leading eighth win of the season. Of the seven starts that Barnes has made since the beginning of July, six of them have been quality starts. The 'Tees scored the first run of the game in the top of the second as Hopkins drove in Mitch Haniger with a single to left. After Tampa (22-28, 50-68) took a 2-1 lead in the third, Brevard tied the game in the fifth on a solo shot by Ben McMahan. Ramirez, Haniger and D'Vontrey Richardson all had two hits each. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) TAMPA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees snapped a four-game losing streak with an 8-3 win over the Tampa Yankees on Wednesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Brevard County (22-28 second half, 59-58 overall) jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one and a half innings and never looked back as they racked up 12 hits on the night. The Manatees scored four runs right out of the gate with Nick Delmonico driving in three of them with a one-out double to right. Delmonico would later score on a wild pitch. The second inning saw two-out RBIs from both Mitch Haniger and Greg Hopkins as Haniger drove in D'Vontrey Richardson with a single to left and Hopkins drew a bases loaded walk. Both Richardson and Yadiel Rivera went 3-for-5 on the night. Tampa (22-27, 50-67) starting pitcher Bryan Mitchell lasted just 1.2 innings as he allowed six hits, walked four and uncorked two wild pitches. For the Manatees, Mark Rogers (0-0, 4.91) was on the mound for his third Major League rehab start and he went 2.2 innings and yielded three hits, while striking out four. The only run the Rogers allowed was on a wild pitch that allowed Cito Culver to score with two outs in the second. Taylor Mangum came on in relief of Rogers and went 4.1 innings and allowed two-run homer to Matt Snyder in the bottom of the sixth as the Yankees cut the lead in half. 13. Final: Tampa 7, Brevard County 3 Resilient Manatees fall short again, 7-3, in Tampa By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees TAMPA, Fla. - Another late-inning comeback attempt came up short, with the Brevard County Manatees leaving the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning in a 7-3 loss at to the Tampa Yankees at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Tuesday night. A hit by pitch, an error and a walk loaded up the bases for leadoff man D'Vontrey Richardson, but when he crushed the ball to left-center field it was Mason Williams who made a highlight-reel diving catch on the warning track to end the game. Though the Manatees (21-28 second half, 58-58 overall) only had four hits in the game, the first three were triples. It was the first time this season that Brevard County had a trio of three-baggers. D'Vontrey Richardson sped around for his first triple of the year in the fourth inning, scoring on Mitch Haniger's bases-loaded sacrifice fly. At the time, that run tied the game at 1-1 after Tampa (22-26, 50-66) had scored in the bottom of the first inning on a leadoff single by Mason Williams and Rob Refsnyder's RBI triple. Tampa wasted no time retaking the lead in the bottom of the fourth, using a walk, a double and a fielder's choice to take a 2-1 lead. Matt Snyder's second homer of the season was a two-run shot in the fifth that extended the Yankees' lead to 4-1. The Manatees fought back as Richardson opened the sixth by reaching on an error, the first of two committed by the Tampa defense. Two batters later, Nick Ramirez hit his third career triple - all of which have come this season - to drive in the first run of the inning. Then Mitch Haniger's bid for a home run in the next at-bat fell just shy of the left-center field wall. He sped around for his third three-bagger of the year, but would be stranded on third. The 4-3 lead that Tampa had going into the bottom of the sixth would have been enough, but against Manatees reliever Dan Meadows they were able to add three more runs. Meadows gave up back-to-back singles, then walked a batter to load the bases. One of Brevard County's four errors on the evening allowed a run to score and put Mason Williams on base, which kept the bases loaded. Refsnyder's sacrifice fly would score Jeff Farnham from third. When Williams stole second with Ben Gamel batting, the throw down to second sailed in to center field and allowed Jose Toussen to walk home. Williams also advanced to third on the play and after walking both Gamel and Peter O'Brien, Meadows was able to escape the inning with the bases left loaded. Brevard County starting pitcher Brent Suter (7-8, 3.31 ERA) was hit with the loss, though two of the four runs he was charged with were unearned. Suter surrendered seven hits and walked two men, but recorded five strikeouts in his five innings of work. After Meadows, Santo Manzanillo finished the final two innings of the game by allowing only one hit with a strikeout. Tampa hurler Scottie Allen turned in another quality start, his 12th of the year, as he gave up three runs in six innings of work. Just two of his runs were earned, as he held the Manatees to three hits - all triples - with one walk and four strikeouts. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) DUNEDIN, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees were edged 1-0 by the Dunedin Blue Jays on Monday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium as the Blue Jays completed a three-game sweep of the Manatees. Brevard County (21-27 second half, 58-57 overall) starting pitcher Tyler Cravy (3-2, 2.24), despite allowing just one run over six innings of work, was saddled with his second loss in his seventh start of the year. He allowed four hits and a walk while striking out a season-high eight batters. Cravy lowered his ERA as a starter to 1.42, compared to a 3.26 ERA as a reliever. Dunedin (19-27, 56-57) scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the second inning. Gustavo Pierre, who hit for the cycle in the first game of the series, led off the inning with a double off of the top of the left field wall. Pierre advanced to third base on a ground out and then scored on a Derrick Chung sacrifice fly to right field. Stephen Peterson replaced Cravy on the mound in the seventh inning. Peterson worked two scoreless innings, including the eighth which saw Yadiel Rivera throw out Matt Newman at home, who was attempting to score from third on a ground ball. John Anderson made his third spot start of the season for Dunedin. He surrendered a hit and walked two men over three innings of work. Shawn Griffith was the first man out of the bullpen for the Blue Jays and pitched three scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit, struck out three and earned the win. Justin Jackson followed Griffith and threw two scoreless innings before Ajay Meyer entered in the top of the ninth inning for Dunedin. The Manatees tried to get a rally going as Nicky Delmonico singled with one out in the ninth, but he was picked off of first by catcher Derrick Chung. Cameron Garfield and Greg Hopkins both singled with two outs, but Ben McMahan struck out to end the contest. Garfield, Hopkins and D'Vontrey Richardson each recorded a pair of hits for the 'Tees. Nick Ramirez saw his hitting streak end at 14 games. Brevard County's road trip continues as they open a three-game set with the Tampa Yankees (21-26, 49-66) at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. Brent Suter (7-7, 3.30 ERA) is scheduled to start for Brevard County. He will be opposed by Tampa's Scottie Allen (8-5, 3.57 ERA). Final: Dunedin 4, Brevard County 2 Brevard's comeback falls short in 4-2 loss to Jays By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/5/0/56718150/cuts/Pierce_7.7_2_rzjzpugf_n8srd5t5.JPG Manatees starting pitcher Chad Pierce, seen here in a game from earlier this season, allowed three runs and struck out six in six innings of work in Brevard County's 4-2 loss to the Dunedin Blue Jays on Sunday evening at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) DUNEDIN, Fla. - Despite sending the tying run to the plate after scoring two runs in the ninth inning, the Brevard County Manatees fell 4-2 to the Dunedin Blue Jays on Sunday evening at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Dunedin starting pitcher Jesse Hernandez (6-10, 3.50 ERA) held Brevard County scoreless over 6.2 innings of work. He allowed just three hits and one walk with two strikeouts. For the Manatees (21-26 second half, 58-56 overall), Chad Pierce (5-5, 3.46 ERA) turned in a strong six-inning start, in which he struck out six men. He was hit with the loss as he was charged with three runs on six hits, with one walk. K.C. Hobson's second-inning single was followed by a double from Marcus Knecht, with Hobson scoring the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Gustavo Pierre. A two-out RBI single by Chris Schaeffer plated Knecht to give the Blue Jays (18-28, 55-57) a 2-0 lead. Michael Crouse's solo homer in the sixth proved to be the winning run, with an insurance run coming in the bottom of the eighth for Dunedin. Jon Berti was hit by a pitch to lead off the eighth and then advanced to second on a groundout. On his steal of third base, the throw down from Rafael Neda sailed into left field and allowed him to score. An attempt to rally by the 'Tees in the seventh would be stopped short as Nicky Delmonico pushed a one-out single to right and stole a base. After Cody Hawn walked, both runners advanced into scoring position on a passed ball. However, neither was able to score as Tyler Ybarra forced Neda to ground out to shortstop to end the inning. Brevard County was able to put together two runs in the ninth, with the first three batters all reaching against reliever Tony Davis. Nick Ramirez led off with a double and moved to third on a double from Mitch Haniger. Ramirez scored on a wild pitch, which was the fourth ball to Delmonico that took Davis out of the game in favor of Blake McFarland. Despite a sacrifice fly from Hawn that made it 4-2, McFarland faced just three batters and recorded three outs to end the comeback. Rafael Neda represented the tying run when he came to bat, but grounded out to first to end the game. Brevard County will attempt to avoid the sweep on Monday night at 6:30 p.m as they send Tyler Cravy (3-1, 2.31 ERA) to the mound. Lefty John Anderson (5-2, 2.70 ERA) will toe the rubber for Dunedin. 17. Final: Dunedin 7, Brevard County 6 Blue Jays rally past 'Tees, 7-6 Richardson records four hits, Ramirez extends hit streak to 13 By Al Hernandez / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/3/2/6/56610326/cuts/Richardson_7.6_1_tt44z7dc_j5tqd6fo.JPG Manatees center fielder D'Vontrey Richardson, seen here in a game from earlier this season, went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored in Brevard County's 7-6 loss to the Dunedin Blue Jays on Saturday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin. Richardson has reached base safely in 18 straight games. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) AUDIO: Game Highlights DUNEDIN, Fla. - Dunedin's Gustavo Pierre hit for the cycle and capped it off by hitting a game-tying solo homer in the seventh inning, as the Brevard County Manatees fell to the Blue Jays 7-6 on Saturday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Pierre's first hit came in the bottom of the first inning when he drove in two with a double. He then tripled in the third inning, before singling in the fifth. The scoring started right away as the first inning saw Brevard County (21-25 second half, 58-55 overall) and Dunedin (17-28, 54-57) combine for five runs. D'Vontrey Richardson kicked off the game with a double. Back-to-back singles by Yadiel Rivera and Nick Ramirez then scored Richardson. Richardson went 4-for-5 on the night with two doubles and has now reached base in 18 straight games. Rivera was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Ramirez drove in two runs, while extending his hitting streak to 13 games. Mitch Haniger then walked to load the bases before Scott Copeland's second wild pitch of the first inning plated Rivera, spotting the 'Tees a two-run lead before recording a single out. Nicky Delmonico, returning to the lineup for the first time since being hit by a pitch on Wednesday, walked to load the bases for the second time. Cameron Garfield followed by bouncing into a 4-6-3 double play, scoring Nick Ramirez. Dunedin came right back against Manatees starting pitcher Damien Magnifico (0-2, 6.23 ERA). Shane Opitz singled with one out before consecutive walks to Mike Crouse and K.C. Hobson loaded the bases for the Blue Jays. Then with two outs, Pierre then collected his doubled into right to cut Brevard's lead to 3-2. The Jays evened up the score in the third when Hobson scored on Pierre's two-out triple. Magnifico's night ended after three innings of work as he allowed five hits, walked two and did not record a strikeout. The Manatees reclaimed the lead in the fourth by scoring a run in each of the three next innings. Three straight singles loaded the bases for Ramirez in the fourth, who drew a bases-loaded walk with one out. Garfield led off the top of the fifth inning with his eighth home run of the season and first since June 4 to give the Manatees a 5-3 advantage. Brevard County extended their lead to three runs in the sixth when Rivera led off the inning with a single, stole second and then came around to score on a two-out single by Haniger. Dunedin would then cut its deficit to a one run in the bottom half of the frame. Nick Baligod and Jon Berti opened the inning by drawing back-to-back walks from Alex Moore. Following an Opitz fielder's choice, Crouse singled in Baligod and that ended the night for Moore. He allowed two runs in 2.2 innings of work in relief of Magnifico. Moore yielded four hits and three walks, while fanning one. Eric Arnett then entered the game and he allowed a double to the first batter he faced as Marcus Knecht drove in Opitz. The 'Tees were able to gun down Crouse at home, who was attempting to tie the game on the extra base hit. After Pierre homered to lead off the seventh to complete the cycle and tie the game; the Blue Jays would take the lead when Baligod reached on a single and came around to score in Berti's two-out RBI base hit. The Manatees and Blue Jays will play the second of a three-game set on Sunday evening at 5:00pm at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. Chad Pierce (5-4, 3.39) will take the bump for the 'Tees. He will be opposed by Jesse Hernandez (5-10, 3.72) for the Blue Jays. Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Play-by-Play

After retiring Tampa reliever Taylor Garrison retired the first man he faced, he surrendered a ground-rule double to Nick Ramirez, who drove a ball into right-center field that bounced over the outfield fence. Following back-to-back walks to Mitch Haniger and T.J. Mittelstaedt to load the bases, Greg Hopkins lined a ball down the left field line for a two-RBI double - his third hit and second double of the game - giving the Manatees (21-24 second half, 58-54 overall) a 4-2 lead. Brevard County was not done, though. Cody Hawn was intentionally walked to set up a possible inning-ending double-play. Rafael Neda though made the Yankees (21-23 second half, 49-63 overall) pay for that decision. Neda cleared the bases with a double into left to make it 7-2 and ended up on third base after advancing on the throw. Ben McMahan then tacked on an insurance run with a sacrifice fly scoring Neda from third base. For the Manatees, the six runs in the frame were the most for Brevard County in a single inning so far this season. Tommy Toledo entered the game in the top of the ninth in a non-save situation. He issued a two-out walk, but was able to shut the door as Brevard County completed the sweep. The Manatees opened the scoring in the first inning, when D'Vontrey Richardson scored on a Bryan Mitchell wild pitch. Richardson had led off the frame with a double and moved to third on a Yadiel Rivera groundout. The Yankees tied the game up in the second. With one out, Tyson Blaser singled and then stole second base. A ground out then advanced Blaser to third and he came across to score on wild pitch from Mark Rogers (0-0, 5.79 ERA). For Rogers, it was his second start with the 'Tees on his Major League rehab assignment. He tossed 2.2 innings and allowed two hits, while striking out three. Taylor Mangum replaced Rogers and threw 3.1 scoreless frames as he allowed just one hit and one walk. The 'Tees retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Hawn drew a lead-off walk and Neda followed with a single. Then, a wild pitch from Mitchell with Ben McMahan at the plate allowed both runners to advance to second and third, respectively. McMahan would groundout and neither runner advanced. Richardson then grounded into a fielder's choice and Tampa Dan Fiorito third baseman Hawn out at home to preserve the tie. Rivera though would step up with two outs and hand Brevard County a 2-1 lead with a single to left to plate Neda. Tampa would match the 'Tees once again in the seventh inning. Taylor Dugas drew a two-out walk from Dan Meadows. Dugas then stole second and scored when Dan Fiorito singled into center. The Manatees kick off a seven-game road trip on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m., as they begin a three-game series with the Dunedin Blue Jays. Damien Magnifico (0-2, 5.79 ERA) will get the start for Brevard County. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) AUDIO: Game Highlights AUDIO: Taylor Mangum Pre-Game Interview VIERA, Fla. - T.J. Mittelstaedt's third walk-off home run of the season lifted the Brevard Manatees to a 4-2 win over the Tampa Yankees in 12 innings on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium. It was the ninth walk-off win for the 'Tees (19-24 second half, 56-54 overall) on the season and the sixth that Mittelstaedt has been a part of. He has also recorded a game-winning double and scored two game-winning runs. With the game tied 1-1 after nine innings, both teams scored a run in the tenth. After Tampa (21-21, 49-61) scored on Peter O'Brien's RBI triple, Brevard staged a rally in the bottom of the frame. Cameron Garfield walked to open things up, though pinch runner Ben McMahan was erased on a fielder's choice that allowed Cody Hawn to reach. Greg Hopkins then singled up the middle and then Mittelstaedt reached on an error to load the bases. Manny Barreda sailed a wild pitch, allowing Hawn to score the tying run, but Barreda was able to settle down and strike out the next two batters to end the inning and the threat. Both teams battled all night long, with Brevard County taking an early lead in the bottom of the second. Mitch Haniger led off with a single, moved to third on a single by Garfield and then scored on a Hawn sacrifice fly. Right away, the Yankees even the score after Rob Refsnyder doubled to start the third and scored two batters later on O'Brien's single. Both pitching staffs kept the contest low-scoring, with the starters each taking no-decisions despite strong performances. Brevard County's Brent Suter (7-7, 3.30 ERA) scattered seven hits in his seven innings of work as he walked only two, while recording four strikeouts and giving up just the one run in the third inning. Making his first career start after 101 relief appearances, Tampa's Branden Pinder held the Manatees to one run on three hits in four innings. He did not issue a walk and notched a pair of strikeouts. Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte threw a perfect fifth before giving way to Dietrich Enns, who was on for the Manatees run in the tenth but posted an impressive line of five strikeouts and just two hits in 4.1 innings of work for the Yankees. The loss went to Barreda, who worked 2.1 innings and gave up three hits, while striking out three. After three innings of work from Stephen Peterson, Tommy Toledo picked up the victory with two innings of one-hit ball. Both Nick Ramirez and Greg Hopkins went 2-for-5, while D'Vontrey Richardson's 14-game hitting streak was snapped as he went 0-for-3 with a walk and a hit by pitch. The Manatees and the Yankees will square off again on Thursday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Jacob Barnes (6-5, 3.24 ERA) is scheduled to take the hill for Brevard County against Tampa's Scottie Allen (8-4, 3.51 ERA). 24. colbyjack - The rise of Hoffman is fascinating to me. I know Frankie along with Kiley McDaniel, are very high on him, but it seems like many others are slower to warm to him as the best arm in the class. His rise has been a little Sean Manaea-esk. I am curious what level of skepticism (if any) there is among other PG staff regarding Hoffman? Do you ultimately see him ending up with a legitimate shot to be the top pick? Regarding Rodon, it seems predictable that after being lauded as a consensus 1-1 pick so early in his career that his status would face regression as he is analyzed closely each outing. I am curious what you think his biggest negatives are as a prospect? I have heard a handful of potential issues, such as the height (6'2"), heavy workload, inconsistent velocity (which you mentioned), minor injuries, and an over reliance on his Slider at an early age. Just curious if you put stock in any of those claims or have heard any other perceived concerns surrounding Rodon? Barring a significant injury do you think there is any chance Rodon could slide past the first or second pick in next year's draft, at least based on what you have seen of him? Speaking of Rodon's slider... http://cdn.fangraphs.com/not/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Rodon-McRae-4th-2.gif
  25. I think that's a question that has to be asked and something I've been wondering myself since the beginning. Every player involved in this whole thing is Hispanic except for Braun. I don't know what it means but it seems odd to me. The majority of players suspended for performance enhancing drugs since 2005 have been Hispanic players. I am not sure if it has any validity, but I know there is a theory that foreign players are typically caught more often because they aren't as adept at the cover-up given communication barriers they face in the United States. Like I said it may not have any basis, but I have heard the idea discussed.
