  1. Well, except for our defense, baserunning and pitching, everything else looked decent today.
  2. I have liked every move that Stearns has made so far (the Lind deal is a little iffy), but keeping Capuano over Morales is the one I really don't like. I was hoping I would like it better after a few days, but...I will cringe every time Capuano is trotting in from the bullpen.
  3. We don't need to spend money on an aging veteran with declining production, we're not talking about squeaking into the wild card this year. Save the money, go with what we have.
  4. "Upon hearing the Rangers made a trade for a catcher, Jonathan Lucroy lept up from his bar stool at Joe's Pub in Phoenix and began to dance wildly. Then, after not hearing his name he slunk back to his drink and hung his head sadly, one lonely tear rolling down his cheek and softly splashing into his warm glass of Miller Lite."
  5. Seriously, how much more do MLB executives need to see from Capuano to realize he's not that good? Don't like him over Morales. /shrug
  6. Well, just came out Montero was claimed by the Blue Jays, so the dream is over.
  7. I see other people mentioning Montero here, now that he has been placed on waivers is there any real thought to taking a flyer on him? Yes I know it's popular around here for someone to suggest going after almost anyone who gets released, but thinking about it, isn't this guy a "Stearns special"? Highly thought of prospect who fell on hard times and has been shall we say, less than spectacular so far, but may have shown a little spark of turning things around? I know his last couple MLB years were dismal and he had weight/attitude issues, but on the off chance he has put those behind him, he's only 26, his AAA numbers last year were great and over a decent sample size. He also has experience at C and 1B, arguably the 2 positions we need the most depth in. If he's free to get, maybe take a chance?
  8. I have never torn a ligament so I'm genuinely curious here, but if you tear one taking off your shoe, don't you immediately know it? Isn't it painful? Wouldn't you have called the team doctor over right away? This was billed as a fluid build up in the knee and after a few days of soreness, and then he saw the doc on Friday or whatever. The conspiracy theorist part of me thinks on their last off day, slick Willie was playing some golf or basketball or something, did something to his knee and didn't tell the team immediately in the hopes he just tweaked it and it would go away.
  9. Maybe, but Braun is saying he may not have to play any more spring games and still be ready for the opener. It sounds like it is serious enough for him to need to rest it pretty often, but not yet serious enough to go on the DL. I wouldn't be surprised if they ease Braun into it by playing him 50/50 for the first 2-3 weeks, in which case you would need the 5th OF. It's a tough call.
  10. Probably scrambling to find a place to live in Milwaukee.
  11. So we have no healthy lefties, right? Someone get Neal Cotts on the phone, quick! EDIT: Forgot Morales.
  12. I might just be too pessimistic, but this team suffers a LOT of serious injuries that are explained as a result of trying to accomplish a chore that a trained monkey could do safely. Taking shoes off, picking up a suitcase, reaching for shampoo, sneezing, sleeping on a pillow, using salad tongs. Either our players are the clumsiest people on the planet, or some of these injuries didn't happen they way we were led to believe.
  13. We may have to keep 5 OF on the team, since I am getting the distinct impression that Braun isn't playing anywhere near 162 games this year, if we get 100 out of him, I'll be amazed.
  14. This has been huge news all day here in Arizona and in all the interviews/blogs/tweets I have seen, there is NO support for the D-backs on this, NONE. If they do somehow litigate their way out of this lease, the Brewers can grab Chase Field for their spring training home and leave Maryvale.
  15. I am absolutely astounded that Lucroy hasn't bothered to get a place to stay in Milwaukee. I realize the odds are good he won't be here all year, but not bothering to rent a spot for your family to live, "just in case" seems foolish. Is he worried he wouldn't get a deposit back or something? Sheesh.
  16. Undefeated after 4 games. Finally we can put all that ridiculous "tanking" talk to rest!
  17. This seems like a good way to endear yourself to your peers.
  18. We live in Mesa, and have been to games all across the Valley, we're pretty close to the Cubs place now, and it looks great. I really, REALLY open the Brewers stay in Arizona. I also really hope they don't stay in Maryvale. While it isn't THAT bad yet, the neighborhood the park is in isn't one I would be frequenting otherwise and that situation very rarely ever gets better over time.
  19. That's pretty good, lol.
  20. After we trade Lucroy, Uecker will be backing up Maldonado behind the plate.
  21. I realize this is a small chance, but I wonder if it's worth calling Texas about Lucroy now that Josh Hamilton is out for two months. Depending on how they feel about playing Gallo now, they might have a thought of playing Moreland in the outfield for a little while, he has played a very tiny bit of OF before, and let Fielder stay as DH, Lucroy could play some 1B for them. They could get him into camp now where he could work with pitchers during camp, and let him play his way back from his concussion at 1B. Again, this is 99% wishful thinking on my part, I just want us to unload Lucroy while we can get a good haul for him.
  22. Well, if the options are Hill, Middlebrooks and Cecchini for 3B, you would have to go with Hill as the favorite, he's the only one to have done anything in the league so far as the other two are just a lot of potential right now. I don't see a way you could give either one of those two any kind of edge right now so I think Counsell played it safe and gave the edge to Hill, hoping one of the others will beat him out during spring and Hill can play the super-sub role.
  23. I would be pretty surprised if Smith is on the team come opening day, some contender is going to suffer a bullpen injury during spring and come calling for him.
  24. I just don't see tanking as an issue in baseball. This isn't the NBA, or the NFL where you can get a very top pick and have an absolute stud come in and help your team dramatically the following season. (Lebron James, Andrew Luck, Kobe Bryant, etc.) Even the most blue chip MLB prospect could very easily turn out to be nothing more than average, and even if he does become a breakout star, he still isn't helping the big league club for 2 to 3 years at the earliest. Just my opinion.
