  1. I think people need to start looking at Hunter Morris as projecting as a platoon player hitting lefty and realize that despite having an up & down season so far in AAA ball he has a .913 OPS and .352 OBP vs RHP in 2013 with HR power
  2. Ian Stewart rants and raves himself into a suspension http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-chicago-cubs-stewart-twitter-20130611,0,7681521.story http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/9366243/chicago-cubs-suspend-ian-stewart-twitter-rant So let me get this straight: you are hitting .168 in AAA and you take to Twitter to complain that the organization is a mess and you deserve a callup (meanwhile you are making $2 million a year).... alright then http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=stewar001ian
  3. Lots of video of last night's Dodgers-DBacks beanball wars here http://mlb.si.com/2013/06/12/watch-zack-greinke-in-the-middle-of-another-bean-brawl-in-l-a/
  4. I believe at this point it is about showcasing the tradeable players until mid July when some deals can be struck, while at the same time hoping for a miracle comeback such as winning 20 of 25 and getting back in it....
  5. yeah, but they are classy
  6. General Thought on the Franchise: Despite a little improvement lately we are still in line for the #4 overall draft pick in the 2014 draft http://espn.go.com/mlb/standings
  7. Rickie Weeks career OBP vs LHP is .393 and his career OPS vs LHP is .840 Hopefully, among other reasons, they are showcasing Weeks' elite skills in that regard for future trades Brandon Phillips' career OBP vs LHP: .344 Ian Kinsler's career OBP vs LHP: .382 Dustin Pedroia's career OBP vs LHP: .401 Rickie Weeks in 2013 vs LHP: .353 OBP (and rising)
  8. We'll see if they still feel that way after a few MLB'ers try to take out his legs on double play balls
  9. One of the things I like about Garrett Cooper is that his OBP has consistently been 100 points higher than his BA. That doesn't always translate when a player gets into pro ball, but in general I love players who can get on-base and are patient at the plate. Not sure how long it might take Cooper to get to the show but he could potentially be a good platoon partner with Hunter Morris http://www.auburntigers.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/garrett_cooper_770501.html
  10. I find this interesting. Is it possible for a player to just contact these teams and just say "look I want to play pro baseball. If you want me in your organization, go ahead and draft me, I'll be easy for you to sign under your terms>"?
  11. I think Hunter Morris will do well at the MLB level in a platoon situation. He hits RHP very well Personally I'd like to see pitching brought back in trades
  12. Astin: Projects to be a 7th or 8th inning guy maybe in MLB...not thrilled with the pick but he has a chance to possibly be a back of the rotation starter and could help the Brewers as early as 2014/2015 in the bullpen
  13. Steroids aren't only used for strength. They are used to recover quicker from injuries, to keep oneself at 100% throughout a long hard grueling season, to give one a lift in the dog-days of August. It ain't just about muscles I'm just still wondering about all the amphetamine users from the 50's-70's who used "Greenies" for the same reasons and are now in the Hall of Fame....not trying to argue for Steroid use, by the way, but hypocrisy abounds throughout MLB history on just what is "performance enhancing" and which eras we bury our collective head in the sand over
  14. Well, again, it would've been different if we signed Prince longterm and then traded Hart, Weeks, & Gallardo after the 2011 season. That would've been something different to tell the fanbase: in order to sign Prince we had to trade away some other key players, but look at all the great prospects we received for those 3....
  15. yep, yep, I hear you guys on the "hindsight" thing. Same principle though, I'm saying we should trade Aoki and probably Lucroy now while they have a lot of value
  16. Instead of using hindsight, lets look at the present Brewers: If the Brewers have learned anything by all this, they'll trade Aoki this year or in the off-season...when players are good and have value is when you trade them... NOT when they start to decline (Gallardo, Weeks) or get injured a lot (Hart, Ramirez) and then you don't get as much back for them at all....other than Greinke (and that was more about $$$) the Brewers always wait until a player is on the decline to trade You need to look at the roster and keep a core group (in this case I would say Segura, Gomez, Braun and maybe Lucroy) and then you need to trade the other players who aren't long-term cost controlled to replenish your farm system Even on a decline, Gallardo & Weeks still have trade value, and Ramirez certainly does. Aoki really does. Lohse does to a degree too. Axford is mostly a salary dump. Hart as well if he can get healthy might have value None of them have the value they might have had in the past, but again we're not using hindsight here You trade those guys, restock your talent, hope that Jimmy Nelson develops, hope you can turn Peralta around and hopefully you've brought back more pitching from all those trades.
  17. Gallardo has never been an "ace". He has been a good pitcher with a 109 ERA+ and 3.75 ERA ---- trading him at the deadline last year would have netted us some great talent.... Yes, it is easy to use 20/20 hindsight vision, but I sincerely believe that the biggest mistake the Brewers have made is not selling high on Gallardo, Weeks, Hart and others when they had the chance. Those are precisely the type of players that you do not extend, in order to replenish the farm system and afford a big signing like Prince Fielder I also disagree that Fielder is overrated. Show me another 29 year old 1B with a .400 OBP with the potential to hit 35-50 bombs a year who never gets hurt and plays 160-162 games a year
  18. I would add: if we had saved all of that money on Gallardo, Weeks, Hart, Axford, Lohse, we'd have even been able to still sign Ramirez How does this lineup look?: Aoki Segura Braun Fielder Ramirez Gomez Lucroy Gennett/Bianchi platoon Or, we could've spent the Ramirez signing on pitching. Either way
  19. We pay Rickie Weeks $10 million We pay Corey Hart $10 million We pay Kyle Lohse $11 million We pay Aramis Ramirez $10 million That is $41 million just for those 4 guys in 2013. I would argue that yes, we should have overpaid Prince. Kept our #17 overall pick instead of signing Lohse, traded Hart & Weeks and have a stronger system as a result of selling high on those guys, and yes we would indeed be better off for now and in the future. We're paying Gallardo 7.75 million, he's another guy we could have sold high. We're paying Axford $5 million, that is another stupid signing The only reason we "could not afford Prince" is because we way overpaid for overrated players Aoki Segura Braun Fielder Gomez 3B that we would've had millions left over to spend on Lucroy Gennett/Bianchi platoon with a much more solid core of young players (including pitchers) from trading Weeks, Hart, Gallardo, Axford when their stock was high would indeed be a much better Brewers team for now and into the future
  20. In general I like the high upside pick of Wilson.... Tucker's bat is intriguing. Plus I like the potential of having both a Scooter and a Tucker in the infield
  21. Yes, I'm bothered by it as well. He should be standing up and fighting for Braun every step of the way.....
  22. Congrats to Scooter getting his 1st hit today
  23. Saving $$$ on Suppan, Wolf, Marcum, and all the other unnecessary signings (Hart/Ramirez/Weeks/Lohse/etc) would have allowed the Brewers to extend Fielder. That probably should have been priority #1
  24. Yeah but that was in AA ball. In AAA ball his OPS is .582 vs LHP
