  1. It is entirely possible than Ryan Braun is a better defensive 3B than Pedro Alvarez
  2. Ouch!!!! Let's hope that is a thing of the past
  3. If I knew how to type an eyeroll, I would. In every thread about a player who has been terrible his whole career someone brings up Carlos. He was 1000 times the exception, not the rule. Kind of, yes. Gomez is an elite all around overall athlete. When you combine the footspeed with the arm and the hitting potential, Gomez is a rare commodity. I think Segura has a little bit of that, certainly in terms of the speed & arm. When you look at the bat, that is tougher to project towards being the 7+ WAR guy like Gomez became for a few years....
  4. Players get reputations, sometimes deserved sometimes not. Every GM in MLB is now viewing Lucroy as a player who could potentially shoot his mouth off in the press in an unprofessional way in the future. There is no way, as far as I can see, that such a reality cannot negatively effect his trade value.
  5. I'm biased because I'm a Segura fan. I think he's a better defensive player than UZR or WAR seems to, though I have no data to back that up, just the eye test. To be clear, I am not at all advocating keeping Segura over Arcia. I'm very excited about Arcia's potential. I just think Segura is underrated
  6. Do you mean Alex Bregman? If so I think he'd be great to trade for. I think at the very least he'll be a good solid MLB starter. Arcia & Bregman would be an amazing duo potentially. I watched Bregman playing with LSU alot and he is the real deal. I think if Houston is smart, though, they let Altuve walk after the 2018 or 2019 season and replace him with Bregman. While Altuve will only be 30 entering the 2020 season, he'll be likely declining in terms of running speed at least, which is a big part of his game.
  7. For what it is worth, all of the panelists on the MLB Now TV show today said that Lucroy's comments could negatively effect his trade value. Both Carlos Pena & John Smoltz said that those kind of comments are not a good idea to put out there publically, and that it could effect the Brewers clubhouse atmosphere if Lucroy is kept.
  8. The player wanting out puts pressure on the team to deal him. Anecdotallly speaking, plenty of mentally dissatisfied players throughout MLB history have had sub-par seasons. If Lucroy doesn't play well in 2016, that hurts his trade value. As you are well aware, this isn't Strat-O-Matic and these players don't exist in a vacuum. Yes, Lucroy is a professional and I would hope he is working out like crazy getting ready for the 2016 season, but as I said, this could "potentially" hurt his trade value. This puts Stearns in a bad spot. The player wants out. Stearns might be forced now to accept a lesser deal, or keep Lucroy and risk him having a subpar year and get labelled an attitude risk. As it I have to bet that plenty of MLB GM's are wondering if Lucroy is going to run his mouth in the press when he's on their team, too.
  9. Trout was not as good as Harper last year, and Trout is historically great. Harper had a 197 OPS+ ..... Harper had a .460 OBP .... Harper had a .330 Batting Average. Harper had a 197 wRC+. Harper had a .461 wOBA. Harper had a .649 SLG % .... Other than the Batting Average in 2012 & 2013 (.323 & .326), Trout hasn't come close to approaching any of those numbers yet in his brilliant career.
  10. Jean Segura is ranked 24th in WAR among all Shortstops in the years 2013-2015. Not filler. A legit starting MLB SS. Now that we've got that together, let's break it down further: Segura is 2nd among SS's from '13 to '15 in stolen bases. "Stolen bases?! Who cares?!" you might say. Well, I care, but anyways.... He's 15th among all SS's in Batting Average from '13 to '15. Defensive WAR? 21st Runs scored? 10th Games played? 10th (yeah yeah, durability doesn't matter, supposedly) He's not a superstar, but he's a good solid starting MLB Shortstop and one of the best baserunners and run scorers among all SS's in the last 3 years. He's had a few down years, it happens. He's still only 25 years old (will turn 26 this March). I've seen him make some truly remarkable plays at SS. He hustles all the time and is one of my favorite Brewers. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see him have a few great seasons coming up
  11. And Yuni B!!! And Kotsay in CF in the playoffs
  12. Lucroy's comments could potentially hurt a trade return, not help. He may be a good Catcher but he is far from a class act or a "team first" guy or any sort of leader in the slightest degree. Just because he thinks those things doesn't mean he should make comments like that in the media. I seriously question his thinking process.
  13. As long as he stays healthy, Harper will sign with the Yankees for 10 years $500 million
  14. Lucroy hasn't played catcher since getting the concussion. I'm sure that is effecting trade value, or perceived trade value, or negotiations. His bat is very "average" if he can't play Catcher. And a concussion isn't (I think?) like a torn ligament where you can get definitive proof on the degree of injury or recovery.
  15. Good to have Smith signed. He has real value. In regards to Segura, it blows my mind how under-rated Segura is, here & elsewhere.
  16. It is only a matter of time for Davis to be traded. Could be this winter still, could be at the deadline. Could be a year from now. In the meantime Santana can be a 4th OF. It is possible that Braun is dealt too. Once Maverick Phillips is ready, both Davis & Braun will likely be gone. I really like Broxton's potential.
  17. Sheets is pretty busy coaching his son's travel team. Seaver Sheets is 13 years old and one of the best pitchers in the country for his age. Just a pure guess but once Seaver grows up, there'll be a better chance of Ben attending Fantasy Camp. A buddy of mine has gone many times and loved it
  18. I think Paul Chryst is one heckuva coach. We'll see how good of a recruiter he is. Badgers Basketball is floundering, true, but I think Alvarez will hire a great new coach this offseason Packers: yes I agree about what has been said about Packers fans. What a bunch of whiny spoiled goofballs. Year in and year out the Packers are in contention. Brewers are rebuilding, that's a great thing. I plead ignorance on the Bucks. My kid tells me that they are getting better
  19. Hard to imagine him only hitting 26 HR's if he plays a full season as a Brewer and hits .221 ..... in a bounce back year he'll hit more than his average amount of HR's per season (30 over the last 3 years)
  20. I would hope the Cardinals as an organization get a severe penalty for this. To think that just one individual was doing this while the rest of the front office was unaware is well beyond naive.
  21. Pitching is my biggest concern in regards to the Brewers franchise. A few of these guys could be/would be slated to be big parts of the rotation if the Brewers can complete their rebuild by the 2018/2019 seasons. I'll be watching Jungmann, Nelson, Davies closely and really hoping for them to take a major step forward. Peralta will be a free agent in 2019, so he's towards the back end of that window. With him I think it is a matter of him building trade value.
  22. Just my opinion but I like it when we have a bit more respect for each other here than labeling someone's ideas as "goofy". This is Brewerfan.net, not the JS Online comments section. I've noticed a lot of people lately ganging up on JohnBriggs12. I very much welcome opposing viewpoints. It gives me something to think about and adds to the level of discourse. I've been posting here for a longtime but was lurking/reading here for many years before that, and JohnBriggs12 has offered insight and perspective for nearly a decade (more than a decade?) that I personally find very valuable. If I've overstepped my bounds bringing this up, my apologies. One of the things I value here is the level of discourse. JohnBriggs12 doesn't like the rebuild, or has a different viewpoint, there is nothing wrong with opposing viewpoints. Disagree with him factually, but let's not lower ourselves to just insulting people.
  23. The MLB hitting coach's list is filled with people who think they can turn Chris Carter into a 40 HR/.250 BA player. Here's hoping that Darnell Coles can be that coach!
  24. Chris Carter has averaged 30 HR's a season (35 HR's per 162 games) over the last 3 seasons Stearns saw a lot of him in Houston. He obviously thinks Carter has some potential. Good solid signing. It's not like I was expecting more at 1B in 2016. Carter is worth rolling the dice on
  25. I think, if that is something you feel strongly about, keep Bud Selig out of the Hall of Fame. I know it wasn't all Selig's fault, there was CBA negotiating that influenced things etc, but my point being when Bonds did steroids it was not against the rules. Personally I think of A-Rod as one of the Top 10 players of All-Time. The numbers he put up, at SS, are incredible. And whether or not he did steroids in his Seattle & Texas years and even up through his 50+ HR season in 2007 with the Yankees is, to me, irrelevant because he didn't break any rules. A-Rod has put up nearly 700 HR's as a SS & 3B, he is (again to me) a slam-dunk no doubt about it 1st Ballot Hall of Famer. And again I firmly believe that a majority of MLB enhanced their bodies from the mid to late 80's through to 2005/2007 or so. (A "majority" being at least 51% of all players). I think the playing field was fairly even. My "belief" towards that is similar to anyone else's very very subjective beliefs as to who did steroids and who didn't.
