I dont know about the live ball theory for Frias given his heroics and EVs in the DSL. I think we are overloaded with OF prospects and there wasnt much of a market for them, but hard not to think its an overpay compared to other guys that got moved. All I can think is the Brewers were stunned by the Skubal results and there was pressure to make a move. But also that they valued May more than meets the eye.

Im not saying Skubal isnt the better pitcher, he is, but he is coming off serious injury and henderson's numbers were on par. Taking out one of our best pitchers as part of a massive package that would likely hamper these next few years in exchanage for someone who "may" move the needle doesnt really make sense. They can likely get a high caliber pitcher without sacrificing short- and long-term pitching.

Tigers were demanding pitching and the Dodgers gave them 2 pitchers. The caliber of pitcher they demanded from the Brewers (Henderson) was a non-starter as, before even talking Pena, it would hamper Brewers long-term without a significant, definitive short-term upgrade. Had they said Sproat, Gasser, or Drohan, that might have been a more reasonable ask by the Tigers

right, can you imagine the Dodgers and Yankees getting an extra, earlier year and also cheaper contracts from the proven young stars? It would just be another fake fix

The demand for Henderson was a young potential ace who had proven himself at the MLB level. The demand for Made was the #1 prospect in baseball. instead they got a 28 year old “prospect” who was neither a proven MLB ringer or anyone near #1 prospect statius

Add Mize to the list, especially with Detroit waving the white flag. Peralta for a plan B type. Padres will want too much for Miller, maybe next year as we also look to unload someone like Turang.

Yeah was just thinking the same. It should lower the value of the rest of the pitchers in the field because nobody can hope to compete. OTOH I could see the brewers more focused on multi year pitchers or nothing i hope they gut the dodgers in the deal and the new CBA somehow handicaps them and now they’ve got massive contracts and lose their prospect depth without the usual way to replenish

Yeah I agree. Brewers have been clear about trying to work the rules using the dodgers strategies but have nowhere near the horsepower to play the game. How the dodgers continue to game the pitching and stockpiling rules is ridiculous

Looking at Naylor's numbers and the Brewers history of trying to turn around toolsy guys, i get the appeal for Naylor as a first rounder and still pretty young at catcher with a lot of MLB experience. Naylor has had a brutal BABIP and maybe they can work some Vaughn magic on him. I could see Yoho turning into a solid arm but not without questions. Perkins needed a change of scenery and it helps our logjam to move up a Ragsdale or Adamczewski. As for Sanchez, it has nothing to do with the numbers. it's the me-first attitude to ABS that screws his selfless teammates while maxxing his own stats. He uses the ABS as a personal weapon to take away the outer part of the plate, because he cant get to those pitches effectively.

I feel all this leaking regarding the Brewers position (best offer, willing to pay) is the Tigers trying to coax the Dodgers/Cubs/Braves into making a better offer. A bit concerning.

I dont recall anyone saying that Yelich, Contreras, Turang, and Chourio were having too many days off. I think there is an issue where Vaughn also came out of the gate hot and then got the weak side of the platoon and started to tail off, whereas last year he maintained a consistant approach.

one thing that frustrates me about the offense is the lack of consistency in the fulltime starters. Obviously, slumps are part of baseball, but the depth should mean that everyone is playing fresh. Yelich/Contrera/Turang started the season on fire, but have since been fairly mediocre at the plate. Chourio came back from injury strong and also cooled off. And yet, we dont see any real breaks for the starters, assuming that playing every day is going to be best for breaking the prolonged slumps. Seems it could be good to handle the slumps by giving them time to reset, and then you give more opportunities for some of the quality depth. Am I off or what do others think?

no way the brewers unload a big chunk of their top prospects for a reliever, even with contract remaining. They dont value relievers the way this board (and the Padres) do. I'd say max is 1 prospect 2-4 and 1 that is 5-10.

Mitchell is intriguing. #1 pick with speed, defense, power and contract room, who has performed when healthy. Tigers see the value. We are about to have a logjam and it's selling at a reasonable price for Mitchell. Chourio/Lara/Frelick/Lockridge outfield is not bad, but maybe we add a different rental piece. Adamczewski, Ragsdale, & Payne could be in the mix soon enough anyways. -
if thats the case and the brewers forced the dodgers to give up great prospects, then i say mission accomplished and move on. though im not that familiar with these prospects

Turang's contract is up in 3 years. If he spends a year at each of AA and AAA and still raking, Turang can be flipped for prospects before his time is up

my guess is Detroit wanted Henderson, Brewers said no. Brewers countered with Fischer plus Hardin or similar.
