  1. I feel like I'm one of the most optimistic posters on here, but this return looks terrible... Rogers is underrated (including with his recent struggles, which were mostly just bad luck), but he's a free agent right away. Lamet is interesting but his arm is so messed up it's unclear if he can be a starter again. The two prospects appear mid-tier? Ugh
  2. Proven closers have way more trade value than WAR/"trade value" would indicate. Hader has arguably the best closer in baseball over his career. So I think he is worth a heck of a lot. The Cubs traded Gleyber Torres when he was roughly a top 10 prospect in all of baseball (plus more) for a few months of Aroldis Chapman. I don't trade Hader for less than that. That being said, I have no idea why we would trade him when we are contending. Yes, Williams is dominant enough to take over as closer, but our bullpen is still one elite reliever less. Very rare for contending teams to trade major-league assets.
  3. Just a slight difference between having Aaron Judge in CF and Tyrone Taylor/Jonathan Davis in CF.
  4. People have been perceiving Williams as struggling??? He's been the most impressive player on the team for me ever since his brief struggles out of the gate. That stat about us having a top 10 offense is truly shocking though.
  5. I think he'd normally fit the team well as a RHP platoon bat, but I wouldn't mess with a guy on the concussion IL. Just too risky and unpredictable.
  6. Unfortunately for us Seattle overpaid so the Reds got a much better return than they should have. Fortunately for us the Reds will probably still mess it up somehow. ?
  7. I feel like Turang is a bit underrated because of the (so far) lack of power. If he is indeed a plus defender up the middle, that's incredibly valuable even without much power. Tommy Edman is on track for a 5 fWAR season based on a similar batting line to what Turang might be able to produce and great defense at SS/2B.

  9. If you think Jonathan Davis will maintain a .365 OBP for the remainder of the season, then we are in good shape and don't really need to add anybody at the trade deadline.
  10. He has a +13.5 UZR/150 in CF (416.2 innings), a +5.1 UZR/150 in the outfield overall (3942.0 innings), and he's won two Gold Glove awards in the last two seasons as a rightfielder. Maybe "excellent" is too generous or makes it sounds like I think he's Lorenzo Cain, but my point is just that he's a good defender who I think at the very worst can be a regular CF as he has in the past. We have a need at CF and obviously you can't just put any corner OF there and call it a day. For example, we couldn't start using Renfroe as our everyday CF. But we could use Gallo as our everyday CF.
  11. Not sure how much he'll cost since the expectation is that the Yankees are going to DFA him. Maybe a low-level flier. I also disagree about him being a corner outfielder/DH. That's a common misconception just because he's a big slugger, but he's actually an excellent defender including in CF.
  12. Good. I had minimal interest in him and was worried he would be our "big" (only) move of the season. He's been decent this season due to a massively inflated .366 BABIP driving up his OBP. Power has completely disappeared (.078 ISO!!!) and he's an average defender.
  13. Seems like a no-brainer move to me. The acquisition and salary cost is minimal for a player with such enormous upside whose downside is certainly no worse than Jonathan Davis. Who knows what a change of scenery might unlock.
  14. Or if you really want to get creative, we could include Hader as part of the deal and bring in a third team to send some elite prospects to Washington for him. Williams takes over as closer.
  15. I have no illusions that it will actually happen, but I would also have zero hesitation about going 100% all in to land Soto if I were Stearns. We are looking at the most fortuitous window in franchise history in that we have lucked into having 3+ elite pitchers under team control all at the same time. We're never going to get a better window, and offense is clearly the problem. This offer would probably be contingent on the Nationals thinking they can fix Hiura's strikeouts, but here's a proposal that is somewhat "realistic" based on things like that online trade simulator, yet without giving up any of our major league pitching: Brewers get: OF Juan Soto SP Patrick Corbin Nationals get: 3B/SS Luis Urias 2B/DH Keston Hiura OF Jackson Chourio OF Joey Wiemer SS Brice Turang I would do that deal with zero hesitation. I don't even really mind adding Corbin, since I think he's overvalued but still has something left in the tank as a change-of-scene candidate. It would create a partial hole at 3B vs. RHP but we could plug that in the off-season with a free agent like Joey Wendle.
  16. Timothee Chalamet to star as David Stearns in Moneyball II: Rediscovering OBP (2026)
  17. The draft is all about projection and physical skills, not college stats. I certainly don't claim to be an expert or to think that Moore is a lock for a future All Star who we stole in the second round. Just pointing out that a credible prospect evaluator with league sources was very high on Moore's upside. Not sure why so many people on here are soooo obsessed with power, by the way. There's nothing wrong with an up-the-middle player who only hits 20 HR per year if the rest of his tools are plus. I don't have a problem drafting Xander Bogaerts or Tim Anderson ?
  18. Eric Longenhangen mentioned that he had Moore in his top 10 last fall, prior to his poor 2022. Doesn't negate the poor spring, but that should at least be reassuring to the doubters that Moore is not just a boring/safe/low-ceiling pick, but that he has genuine upside.
  19. Fingers crossed Druw Jones falls another 26 places!
  20. I believe players who met certain exemptions (high-risk family members, i.e. possibly small children?) received their normal salary. Maybe he did forfeit it, but even for a guy who is set for life I would just be shocked if he gave up that much money.
  21. There's zero reason to sell even if they don't turn things around soon. It is easier than ever to get into the playoffs, and once we are in the playoffs with a pitching-forward team anything can happen.
  22. Such a shame that Cain broke down so quickly. His 2018 season shows the kind of elite player he was and could have been. Man, baseball is a game full of what-ifs, but he if he stayed closer to his peak for the whole contract? (And if Yelich has remained an MVP caliber player, for that matter...) A contract is never a mistake when you get at least legit MVP caliber season out of it though. Congrats on a great career to Lorenzo. I wish we had never traded you in 2010!
  23. I assumed he got paid his full salary that year. Do we know one way or another?
  24. I'm not sure about that, at least not in the sense that you get "free" healthcare for life. (Nor does it seem likely that the MLBPA would negotiate for such an exorbitant and expensive benefit given the number of cups of coffee there are every year.) https://blogs.fangraphs.com/micah-bowie-player-benefits-and-another-front-in-labors-fight/
