  1. So exciting to see Hiura, Arcia, and Urias all hitting well! Probably my favorite game of the season for that reason.
  2. He's still only 26 and got rushed a bit by the Marlins, so I'm still pulling for him and hope he turns it around. But yeah, it hasn't been pretty. I was curious so I looked on Fangraphs: among non-pitchers with at least 700+ PA in their career, Brinson currently has the fifth lowest wOBA of the post-1900 era. Right ahead of fellow top-prospect-bust Brandon Wood. We won the trade no matter what though. Two MVP-caliber seasons for Yelich that carried us to the playoffs? Unless I'm forgetting something obvious, easily the best trade in franchise history.
  3. This may be a rare instance where being a fantasy baseball player would actually give you more insight into actual baseball, because as any fantasy player can tell you this is a weird flukey season and seemingly half the hitters in the league have been garbage. Probably many reasons for that, including the lack of normal spring training. Long story short, saying any of the new Brewers signings "stink" at this point is preposterous.
  4. How about this trade proposal? Colorado is on fire this year but they don't have a consistent lockdown closer. RP Josh Hader for CF David Dahl 1B Michael Toglia (low-A) I think Dahl is a perpetual breakout candidate who the Rockies never seem to fully commit to, whereas Toglia is one of more appealing 1B prospects to me even if he is at least a couple years away. There will be no shortage of playing time for Yelich/Cain/Garcia/Dahl/Gamel if the NL keeps the DH going into next season. Here's the most recent Fangraphs breakdown on Toglia: Toglia had a poor Cape statline and then came out of the gate very slowly during his junior year. He was hitting .207 when PAC-12 play began and his draft stock had taken a plunge but for whatever reason, he started raking during conference play. By the end of the year, he was hitting .315 and had reached base in 29 straight games. Toglia has a rare combination of traits and skills. He’s a switch-hitting first baseman with power who is also a plus defender, which puts him in a small, 21st century team picture with Lance Berkman, Mark Teixeira, and Carlos Santana. That’s an intriguing group. We think teams hopped off of Toglia too quickly because of bad early-season looks and that he might be poised for a breakout 2020.
  5. I'm not that interested in Bell in a Hader trade. He was very good for one half season (first half of 2019) and has been mediocre otherwise.
  6. Big boost for Castellanos's market if the NL permanently adds the DH too.
  7. Sort of a bad look for fans to ever criticize the players for not putting themselves at risk during a global pandemic solely for our entertainment. We should be grateful they are negotiating at all.
  8. Stearns has been using his time machine again I see. And people were saying he signed too many OF. CF Cain 2B Hiura LF Yelich 1B Smoak DH Braun RF Garcia C Narvaez 3B Gyorko SS Urias That's looking pretty good indeed.
  9. To be fair, the track record after round 3 isn't quite the same. Over the last 20 years, outside of Khris Davis, you could make a case the college bat drafted after round 3 that provided the most value to the Brewers is Jason Rogers. They've gone that route a bit more heavily the last couple of years, so hopefully between Kahle, Dillard, Holt and Hamilton and now Wiemer and Cantrelle, along with a couple of other at least productive minor leaguers in the system like Hummel and Fry, that trend will be broken soon. The track record for any player (hitter or pitcher, high school or college) is not going to be the same after round 3 though. The only Brewers draft picks to accumulate >1.0 rWAR after round 3 since 2000 are Corey Hart, Craig Breslow, Tom Wilhelmsen, Lorenzo Cain, Michael Brantley, Khris Davis, Mike Fiers, Scooter Gennett, Caleb Thiebar, Brent Suter, Garrett Cooper, and Brandon Woodruff. (Not counting players who didn't sign with us.) If you set aside deep lottery tickets that panned out (Cain, Fiers, Gennett, Suter) and flukey guys who reinvented themselves as middle relievers long after getting released by the Brewers (Breslow, Wilehelmsen, Thiebar), one could argue that two out of five "expected" successes were college bats, i.e. Khris Davis and Garrett Cooper.
  10. Love every single one of these picks so far. There's a strong case that we snagged two top-25 prospects in terms of overall talent, and the other three picks are all ambitious fliers on guys who are arguably being underrated and have huge upside. I'm not sure why anyone is knocking college bats in the first few rounds. It's probably been the single most productive draft category for the Brewers over the last couple decades, with picks among the first few rounds like Keston Hiura, Mitch Haniger, Jonathan Lucroy, Ryan Braun, Rickie Weeks, Tony Gwynn Jr., and relatively few total misses.
  11. Seems like an outstanding pick at #20. Without knowing anything about him other than what's been posted here, a guy with natural raw power who hasn't utilized it in games in favor of lots of contact to complement plus speed makes me think of Carlos Gomez, i.e. a guy who is a few coaching adjustments away from becoming a true beast in centerfield.
  12. Wow!! Has there been a more team friendly deal in recent memory anywhere else in baseball? When I first heard there was an extension I was happy but a little wary of whether it made sense for a franchise like the Brewers. But there's no way to pass up a deal like that, for a guy still in his prime that for all intents and purposes has had back-to-back MVP seasons since coming over to the team.
  13. Once Urias is healthy, Arcia is probably headed to the minors unless he finally impresses with the bat. I like this Swiss-army roster!
  14. I don't really care about the cheating at all, but I'm absolutely devastated if this means Trevor Bauer was actually right about something I'm still thinking the "buzzer" thing is fake though.

As far as pizza chains go, Rocky Rococo and Toppers are both quite good imo.
  16. Arraez is not an elite prospect aside from having a solid 366 PA in the majors last season. I don't really see a match unless the Brewers front office really loves Kirilloff (a possible 1B-only guy who did not hit particularly well last year) and thinks he can rocket to in the majors by the end of 2020 while we are still in our Yelich Window. Not sure I would trade Hader for a player you have to be so optimistic about. Alternatively, something centered around Hader for Sano could be interesting.
  17. So why do you not like LoMo for calling out other teams?
  18. My not-very-far-fetched conspiracy theory is that Manfred had no choice but to let the players off because of the sheer number of players who would be implicated in this. Particularly if LoMo's recent comments are accurate (which they appear to be - somebody has already found a clip from 2014 on Twitter where you can clearly hear banging).
  19. Why? Are you in favor of some kind of code of silence thing?
  20. Lack of perspective from fans. The only reason we are (potentially - I still think they could add a significant 3B) looking at at a payroll decrease from 2019 is because we were gifted an amazing signing by Stearns when he went out and got Grandal one a one-year deal. That was a unique signing, and it got us to the playoffs. Can't have something like that happen every year.

  22. The Brewers came very close to the World Series as recently as 2018, acting like the Marlins run a more effective franchise because they accidentally drafted Pudge Rodriguez 25 years ago is silly.
  23. I wasn’t proposing Arcia in a one-for-one trade (though with a salary dump like Kyle Seager or Evan Longoria it’s possible), but if we add a 3B then Arcia is now the clear odd man out on the 26-man.
  24. Even with how poor 2019, Gyorko has a .364 wOBA vs LHP over the last three seasons and he can play all over the diamond. I like the move a lot IF the Brewers now go out and trade Arcia for an everyday 3B. A mix-and-match bench of C Pina, INF Gyorko, INF Sogard, OF Garcia, OF Gamel would be among the best in MLB.
  25. Just feels more and more like a Kyle Seager trade is going to happen, insofar as it would make me personally most excited while also making lots of "casuals" angry about Stearns paying so much for a guy who his .239 last year. The disparity between my opinion of a move and the opinion of Brewers Twitter is a key metric for predicting the odds of a move happening.
