The nice thing is we still have Schaffer in the minors in case something were to happen to Gomez, he could be called up as he is a very good defensive player out there. Maybe in that case, he'd hit a little more respectable if he were getting regular playing time.

Nobody said he would have started the year for the Brewers next year(though possible given how he performed this past spring training). I think there are some very short memories on here. Haniger was a guy everyone was talking about coming out of this spring training on this board. Jim Callis - With 96 minutes to go, OF Mitch Haniger leads the Best Prospect traded on deadline day race This is a guy who excelled in the AFL, who hit ~.300/.400 last year in A ball and came into camp this year and played great vs big league pitching. And yes, he very well could have pushed for PT in Milwaukee next year. If you are arguing that he would have likely started the year in AAA, how can you argue that he wouldn't have pushed for PT in Milwaukee next year? He can play all 3 OF spots and has produced when healthy. ^^ This ^^ He might've been able to play for us at some point next year but again, he's another RH bat with an already crowed outfield of right handers. Simply put, he wasn't a fit for us so we made a move to get Parra. A guy that can hit from the left side, play all three positions out there and has won TWO gold glove awards. I know those awards are sometimes just handed to guys that can hit but obviously he can play some serious defense. This was needed as we need to fill in for Davis late in games as he completely stinks out there.

A lineup of: Gennett- 2B/Weeks-2B Lucroy- C Braun- RF Ramirez- 3B Morneau- 1B Gomez- CF Davis- LF Segura- SS PITCHER Would be really something to tangle with! Then go out at add a 4th OF(not sure who this person is but that's why they get paid the big bucks!) so that Herrera backs up the IF only, Reynolds is a good option for some pop off the bench and good defensively, plus Maldy as our backup C and we have ourselves a ballclup with options. -
The scary thin with Reynolds hitting well lately is now Melvin won't see a need for an upgrade. Morneau would be huge. Big LH bat in the middle of our lineup!

Very nice thread. The problem with replacing Schaffer is that we do not have a backup CF. Herrera just isn't good enough to feel comfortable out there. Can Braun fill in there ? Eh, probably not good enough either. It stinks because Schaffer doesn't belong up right now.

They do if hes your #3 behind Garza & Lohse, you have a young possible stud in Peralta and have another good prospect coming up in Nelson. It allows you the flexibility to move Gallardo for the future and maybe possibly you can still trade for a guy like Lester. You only need 3-4 SP's in the playoffs. Not saying it isn't ballsy, just saying it could be a good thing.

Not entirely the same situation but they didn't have a problem doing it to Hardy. JJ was 26, Jean is 24. Not sure two years makes a huge difference but it really might give Segura a little more leash. I think it had more to do with Hardy's off the field stuff and rubbing some people the wrong way then it did his play. It's so weird that Segura is so much better against RHP than LHP. Stinks because he could be a very nice piece if we found another LH SS/3B to step up next season and Segura could fill in for Gennett and at SS. Plus give you some speed off the bench along with being a strong defender.

I feel like Masterson will either flip the switch and figure out his issues or this trade will become something we forget ever happened. I put my money on the latter but who knows? Maybe it's just wishful thinking... -
Now is the time. He's never been better and if we have no plans to sign him, trade him. I get the penant race but we can make another trade for Price/Lester to fill that hole.

There's absolutely nothing in the way Melvin or MA have operated that would indicate they will be sellers when they are in a playoff race. There is 0% chance they'll be listening to trade offers for Yo right now. I was thinking more so instead of including Nelson, it's Gallardo who gets us lets say Price. We get an ace, we keep our one pitcher that is young(er) and who we control for awhile. I love Gallardo, wish he was a Brewer for life but it's not realistic I don't think.

Is now the time to move Gallardo in a deal? I get that we are in a penenat race but this is as good as it gets with him. Trade while stock is high.

This month has been absolutely the worst. No fun. Hoping for a good August or September won't even matter.

Cheap? I don't know about that. Nelson could be a really good one. He's young and might just be the work horse this team needs. Plus we control him for quite awhile. Then you throw in Thornburg who has shown he can be dominant and a big slugger. That's a steep price to pay for someone services of not even a year and a half. Plus we have to pay Price during that time.

I'm not sure a big trade is necessary for this team. Even possibly hitting the waiver wire for a utility man would do just fine. I know we want an upgrade at 1B but honestly think of all the guys we've wanted (Hart, Morales, Smoak, etc..) they've all been duds too. Just not sure there is an upgrade out there. -

On a 3 ball count it's not. Ya let him bunt the dang ball and take the out. That's the proper pitch. He had 5 opportunities to do so. He didn't. Bad call or not it was bad pitching.

What crap? Get hosed on a blown replay and then spiking a slider in the dirt that clips a toe? Hosed or not be got down 3-0 on a guy trying to bunt and the pitch the "HBP" was on was also a ball. Then hit another batter on an 0-2 count. So I say again... "Jimmy. Jimmy. Jimmy...... Yah just cannot do this crap at the major league level."
