  1. it's his 2nd no-hitter, I believe. Didn't he have one just a couple of years ago? 2007 maybe?
  2. correct me if I'm wrong, but I am pretty sure that Scott Kazmir was not drafted by the Rays but rather was picked up in a (stupid) trade with the Mets for Victor Zambrano.
  3. another thing, thanks to Ru Rah Rah, came to mind: this is the same as the 2005-2007 season, as the Brewers are one of many teams in the hunt for 1 or 2 playoff spots. The only difference is that in years past, Milwaukee was at the bottom of the list and had to climb over 7-8 teams. This year, they're near the top and only need to climb over 1-2 teams. (okay, maybe not right this minute. But it's the concept.)
  4. it's not like Melvin is just sitting on his hands. I'm sure he has been trying to get starting pitching, but so many teams are reluctant to give up on their season this year and/or are asking for the mother load of prospects. Thus, there's not much activity. And not just in Milwaukee, either. I would have thought Halladay would have been gone by now as other teams have much more to give them than the Brewers. But teams are very hesitant to give up the farm for him. Not to mention that there just aren't many impact starting pitchers out there that teams are looking to deal. On topic, the low point of the season for me will be when/if the Brewers are eliminated from contention/the playoffs. We're 2 1/2 games out in a mediocre division. One medium length (5-7 games) win streak puts them right back in first (or so). I'm not throwing in towels or even considering doing the laundry. There's still 2 months of games left. Cheer up! We used to go 1-2 (or worse) in Pittsburgh with regularity just a few seasons ago. Life goes on. I think the Brewers will be fine.
  5. situational hitting non-existent that inning. Gotta hold 'em here. edit: or not. Well, at least they didn't drag it out. Just ripped the band-aid off and said we're leaving Pittsburgh.
  6. nice job to get out of that jam. I laughed pretty good when Uecker yelled out the press box window to the fans below. Good stuff.
  7. It has nothing to do with the Brewers but I'd suggest BRRRRR as this is quite applicaple for 10 months of the year.
  8. I guess I should have put that statement in blue. I assumed that everyone knew it was sarcasm without having to change the text color. My bad.
  9. I am completely shocked that neither the Patriots, Yankees, or Red Sox were somehow made nominees as Team of the Year. I used to watch the ESPY's every year. Then, about 5 years ago, we were on vacation when they were on. I haven't watched since.
  10. I still think it'd be interesting to have a bunt derby as well. Have all the great bunters (Pierre, Taveras, etc.) putting down bunts and receiving points depending on where the ball stops on the infield (or subtracting points for balls that roll foul). Please notice I said that it'd be interesting, not exciting. A skills competition, in general, would be interesting, but I'm sure it would never happen because you'd hate to see someone get hurt while participating. I may be misremembering this, but didn't Hee-Seop Choi hit in the HR derby about 5 years ago to fulfill the Korean entrant in the derby (they tried some Nationality thing with the HR derby that year) but he wasn't on the All-Star team?
  11. hmmm, let's see . . . --PITCH League Baseball (Diamond Mind league--it's our 20th anniversary this year) --Casino Blackjack --College/Pro football parlays --used to do the baseball card thing. Now a days, it's a buy a couple of packs a year just to bring back childhood memories. --video games --movies --photography --golf, when I can get out (yeah, yeah, I live in AZ and I could golf 300+ days a year. But gosh it's hot!) --I like to do some singing but not in public anymore. Did enough of that in high school and college. --Hiking Man, I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting.
  12. Valpo, I agree with you 100%. I didn't get to see the end of the game but I listened to it on the car radio while we were at the cemetary this afternoon (not for a funeral, just visiting). I kind of shrugged it off. Then I saw the replay at Fuddruckers while waiting for my burger. I, too, thought that, "yes, it's pretty darn close" but I also thought that it was maybe a bit high, what with the crouch that the batter was in. And inside, too, just a hair. It's disappointing but I'll live. The Brewers will still play ball tomorrow. And the next day. And so on. Eventually, we will win a few games just like this. It'll even out. Heck, as others have stated, this AB wasn't the game clincher. If you can't throw strikes to Soto, there's your ballgame. If you can't get hits with RISP when the opposition is begging for you to get one, there's your ballgame.
  13. another nice little rally here in the 8th. Our chances still aren't great but there are still chances at least. C'mon, Cat!
  14. You also have to take into account at least a little bit, the things that we don't know. Perhaps Castro and Macha both have wanted to take Yo out of games at the 95-100 pitch count but when they discussed in with Gallardo he told them, "I'm good to go, coach. I've got another inning in me," or the like. Macha could be accepting that and letting him go out there. Or he could go against his pitcher's wishes and alienate Gallardo a bit. If Gallardo is getting mad at his usage that could possibly be bad, too. It doesn't seem to bother Yo that he's getting used as much as he is. Is he worried? Perhaps. Is Macha worried? Perhaps. We just don't know. It's fun to speculate that Macha is overusing him and doesn't care about the future, etc. But we all do not know the entire story behind this. I'm not thrilled with his pitch counts, for the record, but he looks fine right now. Time will tell if these high pitch counts will catch up with him in August and September and in 2010 or if he's going to be one of those "freaks of nature" that have no problems with his arm.
  15. This is easy. Somebody just needs to click on Miller Park on the main map, then click the tools button, and then the "Rotate 90 Degrees" button. Voila! Problem solved! Seriously, I guess it's nice that the team is looking into it but day games are a part of baseball and was never a problem until this year, apparently. So the team "prays for clouds and rain" for day games, huh? I saw nary a shadow nor glare today. Wonder what the excuse was? The old Lucy excuse of "The moons of Saturn were in my eyes?"
  16. the foul ball on Sunday was 10 feet away from us. We were in 421, same row as the Kendell ball. Everyone was astonished. I was unimpressed. But I hardly come to Milwaukee games so it's not like I knew the norm.
  17. never mind. Others beat me to the punch. Still, it stinks that they had to bring Hoffman in at all. Now Villanueva is starting to show some "struggles."
  18. I knew somebody would comment on Hall's 2 hits. Schroeder did say he did some good work in the cage today, for whatever THAT'S worth. It's kind of like saying I did some good work with morning sit-ups. It doesn't necessarily translate into me having a good day at the (dinner) plate.
  19. well, this is his 2nd year in the bigs so we should have him under "control" thru 2013, I think.
  20. he still was pretty mad that he dropped that ball, even after the granny. That was probably the most reluctant curtain call I've seen in my life.
  21. as JJ strode to the plate, I told my wife, "the only way JJ gets a triple is if it skips by an outfielder that falls down." I was so close in my prediction. Darn left shoulder of the centerfielder got in the way.
  22. well, that was splenid. Three-run lead with the Mets pretty much in a daze to 1-run lead and the Mets gaining momentum. Two hands on those, kids. That's what they teach you.
  23. why, oh, why do you send Looper on that with Prince Fielder, who has smoked the ball twice thus far, due up next? Fischer has been right on the money all game with sending runners except that one. Dumb, just dumb.
  24. pretty embarrassing, if you ask me, that we only have 3 runs despite 11 hits thus far. Seriously, I'm glad to see JJ starting to break out (I hope for more than just one game) and everybody is hitting the ball hard. And we didn't get shut down. Maybe they need to close the roof more often.
  25. I'll concur about the uncomfortableness of the stadium bowl. If you were in the sun (we weren't) you baked. If you were in the shade, it was just a warm air bubble all around you. No air flow on such a windy day. I was very surprised. This was probably the most boring game I've ever attended. Here are the only things that I remember hearing any cheering for: 1) Mike Cameron's base hit in the 2nd inning. 2) Three 3-2 pitches to Randy Winn in the top of the 2nd inning before the bases loaded walk. 3) The sausage race (although I barely did more than stand and watch--and laugh at the Chorizo-Little Chorizo exchange. 4) Macha coming to the mound to remove Suppan The rest of the game, I just sat there. I stood up in between innings to stretch my legs. I leaned forward with nearly every pitch, then slouched back in disappointment. Completely "blah." Almost a waste of a Sunday. At least I got to tailgate before the game.
