  1. Robin Yount???? Sorry, that the only person in Brewers history (past, present, or future) that will have the nickname of "The Kid." If you didn't capitalize it, I would have thought of Escobar. I am still enjoying the season. It's baseball. It's my favorite sport. I will be mucho sad in October and even more mucho sad in November when the World Series is over. Inside Pitch said the Brewers have lost 25 of their last 35 games. I have enjoyed things enough that I hadn't realized things had got so bad for the club. And, in case a couple buddies of mine are reading this, the answer to the topic question is "No!" (inside joke)
  2. thanks, JB12, for getting the thread back on topic. I didn't really think my little comment would break off the discussion as much as it did.
  3. Yeah, but is Silver Spring Beer 'n Brat Mustard going to be offered in an upcoming Woot-off? I think not . . . therefore, the product is inferior. "Silver Spring Beer 'n Brat Mustard. Mmmmm. It may not be that popular but boy is it good!"
  4. (I had to look up how to calculate ERA+. Call me a dweeb but I couldn't remember and had to look it up again.) The question I have is how long a leash will the fans have on Sunday to keep their bobbleheads in their hands rather than on the field. I envision the baseball giveaway from back in the '90s repeating itself.
  5. I think I may have to lock this thread, since this is very offending to me, a non-Pick 'n Save-ite, who has no access to Silver Spring Beer 'n Brat Mustard. I am less of member of this site because of this thread and it's just not fair. I love Pick 'n Save, and if I had access to one, I'd probably love to pick up some Silver Spring Beer 'n Brat Mustard at such an amazing price. Darn geography has got in the way and you guys and gals are just rubbing it in my face and the faces of others without access to Pick 'n Save.
  6. I'll concur that I like hearing Trevor has enjoyed his time in Milwaukee. I hope that it is honest and truthful and not just smoke to appease a writer. (Really, besides Gary Sheffield and Milton Bradley, most players say that they enjoy playing in whatever city they are currently in.) That said, I'd love for him to be back next year. We've had a down year and he obviously must see that the talent is here and injuries just ravaged our chances.
  7. Needless to say, this was a good thread but, more and more, we are just getting vents in this thread. Take it to the in-game threads or we're going to shut this one down. Thank you.
  8. yeah, Jim, I've seen the "When it was a Game" series back on HBO a long time ago (probably when they first aired.) Good stuff indeed. But I'd want to see it in person. Those home movies were still too grainy to really appreciate those ball parks, although I'm thankful that the films exist. What did those old stadiums smell like? Did County Stadium always smell like 40 years of beer and brats? (man, I miss that County Stadium smell. Not the smell in the air, but the actual smell of the actual building.) I agree with many here also that it would be great to see some of the greats of the game and the regular joes and watch a full game and see how they really played it back then. The old videos and stuff are still highly edited together clips. This is a great thread . . . . .
  9. I'd enjoy seeing older ballplayers, sure. But I'd REALLY like to see what some of those old ballparks really looked like. In person. In COLOR. I can only imagine County Stadium from the 80s 'til death. Wonder what it really looked like brand new. I agree, though, this is an excellent topic. Very difficult to nail down just a handful of players. I think if I had a time machine, I'd go back to 1909 and buy lots and lots of cigarettes from the the American Tobacco Company and stockpile T206 Honus Wagner cards. Heck, I'd only need 10 or so and I could retire. Of course, tons of the other cards in the "set" would set my family up for several generations. And, wow, I'd be the most popular guy in town--I'd give the cigarettes (ICK!) away to anybody that would want them if I could just have the cards.
  10. Milk most definitely has different tastes depending on where the cows are from. Here in Arizona, we get milk from either California, Utah, or (believe it or not) Arizona. When we visit Wisconsin, there is a definitively different taste and texture (and I drink skim!). Here, skim milk is almost literally water, although I like it. In Wisconsin, the skim is slightly sweeter and thicker/creamier. When we were in Alaska, I failed to look at the carton to see where the milk was from (the little one half pint cartons). But it was kind of sweet. The chocolate milk was weird, almost as if they just put pure unsweetened cocoa in it and no sugar. So it was brown milk with the raw cocoa bean flavor.
  11. they said on the TV broadcast yesterday that the entire bullpen signed a ball in exchange for the Escobar HR ball.
  12. As I drove to get a haircut on Saturday, I turned on one of the XM baseball channels and they had the Angels/BlueJays game on. I found it semi-neat and nostalgic as I listened because the BlueJays radio guys would pause every time a new batter (home or away) came to the plate and they fed in the stadium PA introducing the batter into the broadcast. It reminded of me playing my baseball league games with my Coleco Head-to-Head Baseball game, creating lineups with baseball cards, and pretending to be the PA guy and introducing the hitters as they came to the plate. I just thought it was a nice little touch to their broadcast.
  13. that homer he hit in Detroit the other day (Thursday, I think) was just insane. The top rows of the RF bleachers? In Detroit??? Wow!
  14. I've got silver fillings in my teeth from when I was a teenager that are still going strong. I've got a "new" composite filling on one of my front teeth that was put in 2 years ago and it's crumbling as I speak. Gonna have to call the dentist on Monday. This blows.
  15. so, it's 6-0 in the 2nd inning. We've chased their starter. PLEASE, Brewers, do NOT cue up the "rest on our laurels" team. You know what I'm talking about. The one that gets a big, early lead and then sits back and watches as the pitching staff slowly closes the gap/ties the game/takes the lead and the offense is already back at the hotel.
  16. Donation has been sent. Now let's get to get work, everybody!
  17. I'm not sure about "mowing them down." First batter hit a smash that Prince made a great play on (very hard hit ball). Second batter hit a hot smash right to McGehee who was playing in (another hard hit ball). We were lucky that we made one of those into an out, never mind both of them. He got the 3-up 3-down inning, but it just as easily could have been back-to-back doubles to start the frame.
  18. don't forget the years with Harry Carey, either. While probably a lot of fun, I'm sure there was a LOT of eye-rolling by Stone in the booth as well.
  19. I forgot about this yesterday, but I'll send a paypal payment tonight at some point.
  20. way to go! Remember to put things in her LEFT hand (don't really care if she's a girl and won't play in the majors; the world needs more lefties)
  21. the ability to trade draft picks is something that I would like to see.
  22. It doesn't say much that I fell asleep during the middle innings, even though that was 5-6 pm here in the West. Can't wait for the day off.
  23. Regarding Favre as a villain, Quoting from the late 90s film The Mummy: "You know, little twerps like you always get their comeuppance." "Always?" "Always!"
  24. If you've lost your father, especially if he was a big influence in your life (baseball or otherwise), then "Field of Dreams" is a great movie. I dread that day coming as it'll be pretty rough for me. And watching that movie now hits me hard because I know it's coming. I probably won't be able to watch that movie again. To each his own, of course.
  25. I'm not knocking your post at all. But who would have thought 10 years ago that we'd ever be saying this about Pudge? I thought he'd be obliterating all the catcher hitting records by now, the same way Piazza did.
