  1. what do they mean by "sexiest" city? are they talking about Milwaukee being a (to use an ESPN term) "NOW" kind of town that is happening and beginning to be mainstream and everybody talks about it? THAT kind of sexy? edit: yeah, it appears so. I totally missed the link in the initial post. Looks to me like their just calling it the next new hip place to be at.
  2. yes, I heard BA say the same thing. Ned told him that if it was a playoff-type situation, that Braun WOULD be in the lineup.
  3. ugh, 1992casey, that is a terrible promotion. I realize that they already did the Wisconsin coins but, jiminy, that is just horrible. They couldn't get Brewers anything for that game? Brewers Oven Mitts? Brewers Thermo-Stein? Brewers Mini-Bobble of Jim Powell? NOTHING like that? They have to do Illinois coins? Puh-lease, Promotions department.
  4. YES! Takenobu Mitsuyoshi, famous Japanese video game music composer. Link without photo Again, sorry for the difficulty. It's supposed to be Google WON'T save you and sometimes I see these pop up and they're correctly guessed 2 posts into the thread. I never liked that.
  5. I've never tipped my garbageman. Never even heard of doing that. He just drives the truck and uses the vehicle's auto-loader device to grab the trash bin, raise it up, and dump it. Then sets it down and drives to the next house. He doesn't even touch the bins. Is this common to tip the garbageman?
  6. anybody notice how Johnson runs? she has an ugly running (and walking) gait to me.
  7. well, last clue I can give you, which should make it easy to google it: Daytona
  8. Did I read this correctly in the press release, that you can buy the full playoff strip OR one game per series? I wonder if you could mix and match. "Yes, ticket dude, I'll take 1 LDS, 1 LCS, and 3 WS tickets please." I doubt it. One game per series would be great for those 20-pack fans that are just happy to see one game from each series. Probably a LOT easier on the pocketbook, too.
  9. "we" did? I remember wearing long-sleeve turtleneck solid color shirts under my baseball jersey when I played ball. Mostly because so many games were played in pretty cool weather. In summer ball, I wore a t-shirt underneath as did most of my teammates. I thought the shirt, overall, was "meh". The actual logo isn't too bad. The colors are bad, in my opinion; similar to those mustard yellow All-Star BP jerseys in 2002 (If anyone bought one of those, I'm glad you enjoyed it; I didn't.)
  10. here is tonight's clue: Japanese I only have about 1 or 2 more clues before Google will, in fact, save you. Sorry for the difficulty level.
  11. I think it also depends on where the Brewers sit in the final 2 weeks of the season. If they've got a decent-sized lead in the wild-card (or the division, we can hope!) such as 7-8 games, they can probably start to restructure the rotation for the post-season. Yes, I know after last year's Met's breakdown vs. the Phillies, a 7-8 game lead with 2 weeks left is nothing. But do you know how rare and unlikely an event like that repeating itself in consecutive years would be? I'm sure someone will tell me, but considering it hadn't happened since the 1960s, it would be quite miraculous for it to happen again. It COULD happen, but it is highly unlikely. If the Brewers are only up a handful of games (or *GULP* DOWN a few), well obviously, you go for the playoffs and worry about the rotation when you get there.
  12. It's a good concept, but besides paying $25 for a t-shirt, here's my main qualm: who tucks in a t-shirt? To me, in the summer, that is just plain uncomfortable. Maybe in the winter when I don't want a cold draft going up my back, but not now. And I'll agree, series, I think they're pretty "meh," too.
  13. welcome, rhett! Counsell can play all he wants as long as we keep winning games. I know that Branyan and Hall (and Rivera) can be ticked about their PT right now but the bottom line is that this team is winning. Counsell starting all these games has not been an issue in my household. Heck, I've barely noticed he's playing anyways. And the team is winning. I can understand the venting if we were losing games BECAUSE of Counsell. But we're winning IN SPITE of Counsell. Since this is the vent thread, I had better vent about something: I will vent about the people in the IGT that will heed an administrator's advice with sarcasm when making comments about the Brewers and their lineup.
  14. I actually don't mind the Brewers being in the lone division with 6 teams. It's more like baseball of long ago. Heck, before the realignment into the 6 divisions, you had to beat 6 other teams to win your division. Before 1969, you had to beat 11 other teams (of course, you automatically made the World Series if you did it.) It makes us look tougher to me because, maybe, we had to earn it a little bit more. Whatever they do, DON'T make a mockery of the post-season by allowing more teams in. I hate the NBA and NHL which have practically half the league make the playoffs. Before expansion in the 90s, hockey had almost 60% of it's teams making the playoffs! I'd get rid of the DH. Boring to watch baseball without as much strategy as the NL game. Yes, the AL has strategy, but not as much as the NL. I, personally, wouldn't mind seeing them go back to the 154-game schedule, but that won't happen anytime soon. I'm all for instant replay on home run calls or fair/foul calls, but I'd also limit it to a "challenge" system similar to the NFL. Maybe one challenge per manager per game, and if you "win" your challenge, you get one additional challenge (but that's it.) If were changing baseball, can we get rid of guaranteed contracts and give everybody a base salary with performance clauses? Okay, every player in MLB gets $500,000! Every hit adds on $10,000, every HR puts on another $50,000, etc. etc. Sure, teams can still do clauses for MVP, Cy Young, Silver Slugger, All-Star team, etc.
  15. Man, I think I made this one too difficult. Another clue: Sega
  16. ever notice how people always say they dominate on some video game but you never hear that they "suck big time" at it but continue to play, nonetheless? I'm setting up my Madden 08 PC season with 09 rosters, schedule, etc. I guess the new Madden 09 mod will be out soon for PC from football-freaks.com. Can't wait.
  17. thanks blatz. I'm sure he'll give me an update on the other final, too. Much appreciated. (no, this is not sarcasm; I'm being genuinely thankful)
  18. what time are Phelps swimming finals tonight? How much Brewer game will we miss to watch? I can't seem to find the scheduled start times anywhere.
  19. I'm not saying that the Brewers were/are looking to trade Braun. Teams around the majors routinely place almost their entire rosters on waivers during the month of August. Why? I don't remember the reasoning but they do. 99% of those players go through without anyone even catching a whisper of it. The only people that know are the GM and the players, for the most part. But there is that 1% that someone blabs about to the media or is a player the team genuinely does want to trade. I've got to find the reasoning behind this process, though. I know that I read it someplace and a GM explained it completely. It was very interesting. Maybe it was in a book. Lords of the Realm perhaps? It was a while ago, though. edit: I found this on a web article by Keith Law. Here's one quote from the comments section that summed things up pretty good. It's still not the article that I remember reading a while back but it's something.
  20. just about every player is placed on waivers in August. The only reason this is news is that it was leaked to the media. I would venture a bet that at some point this month Ryan Braun will be put on waivers but will be pulled back once a team makes a ridiculous claim on him. That said, I'm not shocked that the Tigers are "done" with him and are willing to move him instead of just placing him on waivers like most players are this month. Who'd really take him, though?
  21. hooray for West Coast games! I get to sit on my porch as the sun sets, grill out, light the tiki torches, and enjoy the whole game from the comfort of my County Stadium seats. Yeah, I could do it most every game, but I'd scorch myself doing so. The West Coast games allow me to enjoy without getting roasted to death from temperatures hotter than Hades. Go Brewers! Woo Hoo!!!!
  22. sounds like we need another clue: Racing
  23. pardon me, Al, but isn't that what lcbj68c just said? Good for Rocco, if I say may so. He's always been a good hitter but seemed to be afflicted with weirdo injuries. Maybe he's the Ben Sheet of hitters. I hope he gets the chance to stay healthy and get to the playoffs (as with all Rays, of course.)
  24. wow this thread was on page 3 for me and half way down at that, meaning it was about the 65th most recent topic on this thread. I'm drunk on a Monday afternoon at 2:23 pm. It's the last day of summer vacation for me. School freaking starts on Thursday. I'm not happy. At least I can get paid again. Only thing I missed today was a grill loaded with hot dogs. Forgot to buy them when I bought my beer this morning. Darn it.
  25. ftj, that looks like our typical staff meeting at school!
