  1. I saw everybody had the shirts untucked after the game on Saturday, not just the outfielders. My guess is that, with Jenkins gone, they decided to do some other sort of "victory dance" other than the "jump high-five body bump" that they had been doing for about 3 years. And that's what they came up with. It's certainly different. Logically, the next step would be to throw their caps up in the air "graduation-style" and make a mosh pit near the mound.
  2. I chose not to acknowledge the Indy quotes, since I thought it was pretty darn obvious.
  3. this is pure vent. I know we have our share of sweeps throughout the years, but could we just finish the book and sweep a good team for once? I'm sure I'm forgetting some time we swept a good team, but that's not the point of this thread. I feel mad and upset that we couldn't pull it off after 2 nice wins to start the homestand. It's almost like they're satisfied with the series victory (I know they're not, really, but anyways . . . ) At least that's a nice 3 hour block that I can delete from tivo right away tonight.
  4. somewhere at school, I have this old page-a-day calender that is all Bermanisms. 365 player nicknames. That was a great calender that was very hard not to peek ahead. Of course, this is from at least 10 years ago. Today, yeah, he is pretty intolerable. Give me Gary Thorne anyday. (if it has to be ESPN, that is.)
  5. If we kept Davis, however, would we have Suppan? I doubt it. So we'd be pretty much in the same boat with a rotation of Sheets, Davis, Parra, Villanueva/Bush/Eveland. Dana never really impressed me at the MLB level when he was here. Sure, he was good in the minors but not with the big club. We traded him at age 23, I think, so I suppose Doug could have had a little longer leash with him before offering him in a trade. But to get players (Estrada, Aquino, whoever else it was) you have to give up players and the D-Backs weren't going to just receive Doug Davis for what we got. We put two prospects into the deal (Eveland and Krynzel). Neither really panned out for Arizona, so they dealt Eveland. Suddenly, something clicked in Oakland. Maybe it was the pitching coach. Maybe it was being in his 3rd organization in 3 years get him to focus. Who knows? We could play the what if game all day with just about every player on the roster that we have ever traded away. I'm not in the front office and I can trust the Brewers' brass to try their best at what amounts to a very tough job.
  6. oh, I don't know about that (chances of winning are very low). Give me $100 and I can sit at a single table of 6-deck blackjack all afternoon. And I usually double or triple it. Not always, but more often than not, I make money. And I'm not counting cards.
  7. can't get a double play and things fall apart fast. Story of the year. And in the bloody 6th inning again. At least we have 3 more "ups".
  8. I'm with Kegstand, here. When I play blackjack, I'm playing for one reason: for fun. If I really want to make money, I'd be sitting at the higher limit tables. And I usually WILL say that to an ornery person if they're complaining. The $1, $2, and $5 tables are for folks looking to just have FUN. At the same time, I go with the "book" about 90-95% of the time, but sometimes you can calculate what is coming toward the end of the shoe. I'm not talking cards, but you just "know" what the shoe has given you thus far so you can start to "anticipate" a card coming your way. If it doesn't work out, I live with it and move on. If it blows other people's cards, oh well. I am playing for ME, not for other folks. If BJ tables started giving bonus money for entire tables winning when the house busts, okay, I'll go completely 100% conservative. But nothing beats going against "the book" and pulling a card out of the shoe to give you 21 against the dealer's alleged 20. edit: man, now you guys have given me a huge hankering for heading to Laughlin tonight to go play cards.
  9. going over to fix your parents computer bugs me. Tonight, their wireless card wouldn't connect to the internet. Some Windows Vista ASATAP thing or something wasn't working and when I uninstalled and tried re-installing it wouldn't re-install, forcing me to do a system restore. Not to mention that they only have 1 GB of RAM, causing a very slow vista experience. One hour later, nothing was accomplished. Gotta take it in for a professional to look into the problem. At least I got a good mile run out of it.
  10. nice pitch to swing at, Braunie! This has been a brutal game (once again) to watch.
  11. I'd like to see Branyan up as a kind of "Will Clark" kind of experiment that the Cardinals did in 2000 (he was also on Baltimore that year). I'm not saying Branyan would hit .300+ (he won't--but I'll take it if he would) but he can definitely work the walk and hit the long ball and give the Crew another lefty hitter. Clark kind of came out of nowhere to put up the numbers he did in his final year, and Branyan could be motivated to do the same in what could very likely be his final chance in the majors.
  12. oh, come on now! Taylor Hicks had MASS appeal what with that Ford commercial that was played every other 30 seconds on most TV broadcasts! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif (Or was it for Chevy?) man, that commercial got to be annoying by about the 2nd time I heard it.
  13. Didn't we get Rick Waits in that trade, too? How did we get that guy from the Indians, if not?
  14. you are SO buying every member on this board a beer when this happens.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. I merged the two topics. Hopefully, nobody will mind.
  16. Ryan Theriot strikes me as the new David Eckstein of the National League.
  17. I, too, am in that 1%. I seriously thought this was a thread in similar fashion to a "David-vs.-Goliath" type sporting event. But, to contribute to the thread I'll just make a wild guess and say David Arch will win. Rationale is because I like Arches National Park a lot and cooks are overrated.
  18. I kind of implied it, knowing full well that most of us on this site already know about the cancer. But, Bravo, Jon, anyway!
  19. peavey, that's what they do on the Arizona broadcasts, too; especially on home games. It's kind of annoying when they do it every time a ball is hit--even foul balls into the crowd. I guess the producers want us to know that there are, in fact, fans in the stands.
  20. Diskono, Cool pennant but I can't believe how lame it is in comparison to the AL Championship pennant I have in my room. Similar in style (the roster scroll on the left, Kuenn's name under the logo, etc.), it looks MUCH better than that World Series Championship design. Maybe I'm biased since I've looked at this one on my wall for 26 years now and that is the "norm" for me.
  21. I would venture to guess that the Fenway experience is VERY akin to the Lambeau experience. edit: except that the Packers still play Todd Rundgren.
  22. They also don't have to be a win. Although, they've changed the official MLB rule since then.
  23. don't know if anybody realizes this, but somebody mentioned it in another thread today: Ned Yost just botched the chance to argue a call at third base and get ejected from the game, spurring the team to a complete turn-around like the Cubs last year. Of course, we still need Kendell and Sheets (or another pitcher) to get into it in the dugout.
  24. I know some people bring a decent-sized bag onto the plane filled with stuff just in case the airline loses their primary bag. I know MANY people who were stranded with nothing but the clothes on their back for days at a time on vacation until their lost luggage arrives. Yes, they're probably too cheap to buy some new clothes. And, no, I'm not speaking from experience. I carry on my Baseball Weekly, mp3 player, and a jacket. Sometimes the laptop, if it is needed on the trip.
  25. okay, so we've established that I'm old. Hooray me. Now tell me why I've never heard of most of these guys. What type of music do they play? Techno? Heavy Metal? Alt? Are they local bands? Do they have CDs out? Are they in the Columbia Record Club?
