  1. I suppose we could have had zero playoff contending teams for the last 20 years. I mean, I GET what you're saying, and, YES, it is kind of depressing. But at least it's been competitive play from the Wisconsin sports teams (for the most part) during this 21st century. I, personally, would MUCH rather have had 20 years of fun games to watch, even with some disappointment rather than 20 years of sub .500 play from ALL the teams in the state and no playoff contention of any kind. To each their own though. I am certainly not "right" and you are certainly not "wrong." It's just a friendly discussion.
  2. Season 1 of Westworld was very good, I thought. Season 2 made me wonder what I was watching, because it seemed like it was all over the place.
  3. This guy was absolutely the best. And so much of his greatest work was improvised! I loved him in "The Billion Dollar Hobo" as a kid. Mostly because I loved trains but he was hilarious to my 10-year old self.
  4. Wouldn't be shocked if Huira sits, but if he starts, I also wouldn't be shocked if they plug him into the #8 hole. (or even #9 ala Gamel last night)
  5. So . . . let me get this straight. The first round of the playoffs takes over two weeks, with 2-3 days off in-between games. But . . . . the conference FINALS has a schedule with only 1 day of in-between games. Yeah, that makes sense.
  6. Here’s my question: if the collective bargaining agreement will be (likely) changed in a couple seasons (with or without a lockout/strike), then why not just call him up? His super two status or three vs. four years of arbitration could be history in just two years and it won’t even matter that we held him back. Instead, perhaps, we’re losing out on Huira helping out the ballclub right NOW. That said, I trust the Brewers brass and believe they’ll do what is best for the club. I just wonder if they’ve thought of that (they probably have [insert google eyes emoji here]
  7. Pat Hughes is still fine to listen to but Ron Coomer is terrible as the color man. Just brutal.
  8. Of course I’m on the road and MLB at bat app is only broadcasting the Cubs radio broadcast even when I have it on the Brewers broadcast for WTMJ
  9. That is incorrect. It was a hit to right field. Eric Thames was the baserunner and had he been sent, he’d have been a dead duck. So Sedar put up the stop sign. As soon as he did and as soon as Thames stopped, the right fielder bobbled/dropped the ball. But by then it was too late for Thames to start running again. At least, this is how I remember the play.
  10. I'll be honest. I'd like to see Huira come up for a couple of weeks and send Shaw down for a couple of weeks. Shaw can (hopefully) get his head screwed on straight by clubbing AAA pitching for a couple of weeks and Huira can get a cup of coffee. Then they switch back and (again, hopefully) Shaw would keep hitting after getting some AAA success and Huira will continue to be ready if needed. Of course, this is all dependent on both players meeting those expectations.
  11. Hey, I was one of the correct 17-14 pickers for April, so let's give this a go again! 2 vs Col (1-1) 3 vs NYM (2-1) 3 vs Nat (2-1) 3 @ Cubs (1-2) 4 @ Phi (1-3) 3 @ Atl (1-2) 2 vs Cinci (2-0) 3 vs Phi (2-1) 2 @ Min (1-1) 2 @ Pit (2-0) So, that means I have them at 15-12 for the month of May. I'll go with that and hope for better!
  12. We sat at our table and watched the DBacks-Cubs game the whole time. The tablet thing wasn't even facing us--didn't even touch it until it was time to pay the bill.
  13. Took my wife to lunch at Chili's today while the car was in the shop. The bill comes and there is a $1.99 "entertainment fee" that we've never seen before. (We dine there probably once a month, perhaps?) It turns out that the restaurant is now passing the cost of those "Ziosk" machines (tabletop game/entertainment/pay your bill stations) to the customers. I asked the server and, sure enough, that's what it is. Grrrr.
  14. I'm trying to get my brother's game of Saints Row 4 to work properly. Running FRAPS we see he has frame rate of 5-6 FPS during the intro movies and the main menu, as well as the game itself. We put all the video settings at low, even though his computer easily exceeds the recommended specs. We've also deactivated the steam overlay, have it running as an administrator, etc. etc. In other words, we've done our due diligence of google searches for recommended fixes and tried them all. Interestingly, we put the game into windowed mode, and then alt-tabbed out of the game to check stuff and, suddenly, the FPS shot up into the 100s FPS! But as soon as he alt-tabs back into the game, it plummets back to 5-6 FPS. Frustrating to say the least! Any other ideas out there? Could there be something that is NOT video card related that could be "interfering" with the game running properly? I know this is a shot in the dark, asking here, but haven't received many hits in the forums for a 5+ year old game.
  15. Hey we’ve got a game again Should be a nice surprise for all those that went to bed early. I’ll be heading there soon myself, once 10 pm local (AZ) time hits but I’ll Have it on the bedroom tv to fall asleep to. Maybe it’ll be the 6th inning by then! Ha, this game is so slow. Hope Hallion and Trout are okay.
  16. That was pretty brutal by Thames. Shoulda been a 4-pitch walk. And ends up swinging at 2 crap pitches then watches one go by for strike three. Ugh.
  17. This was a really good article. It's about the broadcasts of baseball over time and with quotes and commentary from Mike Falkner of the Brewers, talking about their broadcasts, BA & Rock, and other stuff. Good read! https://tht.fangraphs.com/brewers-tv-statistician-mike-falkner-and-the-evolution-of-baseball-broadcasts/
  18. For the record, I thoroughly laughed and enjoyed last week's episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine". Probably because it was filled with sophomoric jokes and one-liners. A lot more than in recent episodes. I guess that tells you a lot about myself!
  19. Yes, Directv has a free preview of Extra Innings package all week.
  20. My annual Opening Day post: (I'm listening to it on repeat here in my classroom before class.) "OPENING DAY" by Terry Cashman (of "Talkin' Baseball" fame) VERSE Well, I count up the days in a winter haze Since the leaves began to fall. Now it won’t be long ‘til the sun comes shining through. When the camps start breakin,’ my spirits awaken To an irresistible call, Of an old American song that’s always new CHORUS And the robin is here, The sky is so blue. There’s a band, there’s music And the flags are flying, too. The grass is so green, It’s like never before, It’s Opening Day, I can be a kid once more. VERSE Now will the champs repeat in the summer heat? Will the races go down to the wire? In April ev’ry team has a chance to wear the ring. And there’s a rookie phenom Who tore up the farm, And the fans never seem to get tired Of chasing the dreams that dance in the air ev’ry spring. CHORUS Yeah, the robin is here, And the sky is so blue. There’s a band, and there’s music, The flags are flying, too. The grass is so green, It’s like never before, Yeah, it’s Opening Day, I can be a kid once more. BRIDGE So open the gates And let the people in. Let the games begin. And may the home team always win! CHORUS The robin is here, The sky, so blue. There’s a band, and there’s music, And the flags are flyin’, too. The grass is so green, It’s like never before, It’s Opening Day, Yes, it’s Opening Day, It’s Opening Day And we all can be kids once more.
