  1. I want at least a split and that's what I expect. I've been saying for a couple of months now that I've been looking forward to this series as a truth test of where we are with 3 weeks to go before the real thing. It won't be any tougher than facing Lee, Halladay, Worley, and Hamels (in the real order, not this fake order that I came up) but I think we're up to the challenge. And if not, maybe it'll be like the Packers losing to Atlanta in the regular season and making up for it in the post-season. (okay that comment only is written because I'm fired up after having finished that "America's Game" show on NFL network tonight.)
  2. this is pretty much spot-on what I told my wife yesterday.well, looks like cwolf2012 and I were about half right about Furcal. He's hit 6 or 7 homers (including 5 against the Brewers) since being picked up by the Cards. Where did this power come from?
  3. here comes a Berkman bomb. or not. Got out of it. Nice.
  4. gb12, that whole logo and Brewers era, really, are dead to me.
  5. as my wife will attest, I called the cycle (in the correct order) for Kottaras after the homer run. I figured we were due for a middling catcher hitting for the cycle again.
  6. my guess is there is an even split (with some outliers, of course) of people that like the old ball-in-glove and those that wish it went away. I'd also venture a guess (pure guess here) that the dividing line is pretty much a "were you a baseball fan in 1982 or not" kind of thing. Those that were alive and well and cognizant of the goings on of that team love the ball-in-glove. Those that are too young to know much about it or care about it probably don't. Again, there are obviously outliers to this pure guess. I know it works for me and the barrelman logo. It's cool, true, in a retro way, but I hold no personal connection to it so, therefore, I could do without it.
  7. I would guess we'll get a Green start in Houston, because the Astros are teh suck. Oh, and Roenicke and staff probably wanted first starts to be on the road rather than under the pressure cap of Miller Park. It worked for Lawrie and the Jays. Okay, I'm reaching. . . .
  8. yeah, but see? We've learned from St. Louis about how to be classy. We gave another team some hope. Instead of wiping them completely out of the race--unclassy--we let them live for a little bit longer--classy.
  9. A buddy of mine here in AZ works with in a design firm for companies. He's gone to several seminars about designing logos, etc. He tells me that every time he goes, no matter where it is, the ball in glove logo comes up in discussion because of the absolutely perfect design. They treat it as if the #1 logo EVER created--sports, business, whatever. I always thought he was kidding until he showed me some trade papers about it.
  10. well that was a pleasant start. A Pujols homer I can "live" with. Furcal hits his 3rd STL HR--all against Milwaukee? That's unacceptable. (insert blue text) Who's cheating now, Tony?
  11. tristar, I didn't mean to offend you or demean women about not knowing how to keep score. That was not my intention and I apologize. I was only making a point that I never saw her doing it last night when earlier in the thread some posts made it sound like she was a hardcore scorekeeper that does every game like she was keeping her own statistics or something (maybe she does?) With my eyes, I didn't see that level of hardcore-ness in scorekeeping that I expected to see.
  12. I thought the general impression that I was supposed to believe was that anyone is better than Betancourt, so why not? (oops, forgot the blue text)
  13. I agree with you 100% RoCo. I think your analysis is spot on. Those times that a rookie in his debut who struggles are probably (note: this in my opinion, not a fact) the rookies that are having the butterflies, jitters, and nerves that they can't control. Those that pitch well are the ones that can probably contain their apprehensions and pitch well with no advanced scouting on the guy.
  14. I'd be tempted to pick up Tejada. Don't know if I'd pull the trigger on a trade for him, though.
  15. good point and one I've argued with my friends. However, Goldschmidt was pretty much forced in due to the injury to Xavier Nady and the trade of Brandon Allen. Goldschmidt played for about a week, I think, before the DBacks acquired Overbay but kept the youngster in anyway. I do kind of wish the Crew gave Green a chance in the pennant race now and not when it's all but clinched halfway into September.
  16. players should be squaring up in the cage at least twice daily during BP. The coaches should notice that his form is all wrong (wrapping his hand around the barrel) and be correcting him. In other words, doing some coaching to fix a problem. Otherwise, yeah, the bunt was the "right" call for that situation. The player needs to execute. Or at least do a better job of trying. Personally, I'd have sent Counsell up to bunt 'em over, but whatever.
  17. I don't look at the crowd either during the game on TV. But last night I finally noticed her (now that I knew what to look for). I never saw her keeping score. I never even saw her holding a scorebook/program/whatever. She was always clapping, cheering, etc. Maybe she's not that hardcore of a scorekeeper (i.e. keeping the count, etc. on the scorebook) like I do when I keep score. Maybe she does the bare minimum, marking "FO" for a fly out, "GO" for ground out, "SO" for strikeout, etc. and only does it in-between plays. Scorebook protocol is so varied for everyone. You could probably make a coffee table book about the different styles and varieties of keeping score of a baseball game.
  18. I heard it on TV, too. I figured it was an announcement to everyone that the show is about to start.
  19. well, I gotta say I thought that there is reason that Betancourt hasn't had any sacrifice attempts this season. Look at his form. He had his hand wrapped around the barrel of the bat. No wonder it hit him in the hand. Just terrible fundamentals. That said, I thought the bunt play in that situation was the right call. But I'd have sent up Counsell to do it. Sure, you have to get the bunt down pretty much perfectly the way the Cards were defending it but I believe that Counsell could manage to get it toward third and not have it hit his hand. Sadly, this should have been a 1-0 Brewer win. Two errors in one inning led to the 2 runs which would not have scored had Prince and Hairston been able to get those grounders. Finally, I would've sent Green up to bat instead of Kotsay and said, "Kid, here's your shot to become a part of this team. If you get a hit, you'll be a hero. If not, we're still going to support you." Kind of disappointed that didn't happen. A player in his MLB debut at-bat might be over-eager but against a fastball-slider pitcher in a tight ballgame with a lot of emotion in the stands and the Cards wanting to win a "statement" game, I think the over-eagerness would have played nicely, perhaps a first pitch line drive single to center or something. Ah well. We're still up 9 1/2 games. I'm not going to get too much more worked up about it right now. Go get 'em tomorrow. p.s. Yeah, sure, we don't, for the most part, like Betancourt but to hope he is injured? Classless. What's next? Wishing hawing gets a crippling hand issue so she can't ruin this board with her moderation and cool-headed analysis.
  20. Bradley was very impressive in his interview, I thought. Pujols is already acting like a punk tonight. Flipped the bat on the first inning walk. Taunting the fan with that foul ball (which was out #2--he could have thrown it into the crowd because there was nobody on base.) And now a high and tight ball four has him staying in the box for a few extra seconds because it almost gave him (cue baby voice) "a boo-boo." Pretty sure someone gets plunked for the Crew this half inning.
  21. topper, that's 11 games http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Anyway, I'm surprised there's only been 11 of these instances since 2005. Sure seems like more than that.
  22. if she's married, my question becomes what does her husband do that they bought a single season ticket and she goes alone? Is he not a baseball fan? Does he get the Packer tickets while she gets the Brewers? Is he a (Monty Python reference) poof-da? Strange saga this is. I'm glad I'm already taken.
  23. I think she's using Firefox 5.0. I'll have to try IE on her system or maybe install Chrome or Opera for her and try that. Thanks for the ideas. I'll have to try when we get home this afternoon.
  24. I'm pretty sure it'll have monthly charges for at least a year before, perhaps, dropping it like a lot of MMORPG have been doing. It's probably the only game in the last forever years that I will be buying near release at full price. Almost all games that I own I buy a year or more later at clearance prices or via Steam sales. Looking forward to it, really.
  25. hmmmm, listen to BA and Ron Darling (I'm assuming those would the two guys for TBS) or Craig Coshun and Bill. Decisions, decisions. Oh, wait, that's right. I should be in the middle of my big Fantasy Football Auction at that time.
