In talking Position players for Trade that's ARam at -.1WAR and Weeks at -.8WAR on the season Aoki at least sits at 2.1WAR so clearly he would have the most value for this season to net in trade. Pitching with Gallardo at -.4WAR not good but Lohse checking in at 1.8WAR which is keeping in mind that he is effective even in a hitters ballpark and he wasn't a fluke for 2 years. I'm surprised not much has been mentioned about Lohse being coveted in trade. No teams showing an interest in him.

6 Possible Trades to Consider
brewcrewdue80 replied to 82brewcrew11's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I just can't imagine Detroit parting with Castellanos but I do pause in that Detroit sent back Avisail Garcia to AAA. Dirks has been eh like just not good. So Detroit has a need...for a LF. Aoki plays RF, would be a move for him that I don't know how well he profiles in LF at. Castellanos has also been playing LF in AAA. I actually imagine he will get called up to play LF himself vs. being traded away to get one. In Detroit's interest, showing his bat and then opening him on to the trade market in the offseason is probably best. I just don't see him being traded, the fan page claims him to be the best hitter to come up in their minors since Cameron Maybin just before he was traded in the Miguel Cabrera deal. The Dodgers deal is ridiculous! You're talking acquiring Ethier and then shipping him off to the Mets in the Offseason for prospects. Why wouldn't the Dodgers just do that themselves? So you're essentially talking getting Lee,Pederson, And Seager plus NYM prospects out of ARam, Weeks, and Axford? I can entertain the idea of ARam/Weeks/Axford and KRod for Pederson or Seager plus lower level prospects. I think Pederson is going to be a coveted guy and more or less be used in a better deal for LA or another OffSeason trade. I'm going to guess ARam/Weeks/Axford nets Seager,Reed plus some under our radar prospect. Gotta remember, our deal that got Segura was for Grienke who was the most coveted SP at the trade deadline. It's stretching to acquire these #45-60 trio of prospects when ARam/Weeks aren't going to be all that coveted if at all by any other single team in baseball. And then also Acquiring Ethier? Who are the Brewers giving up to get him? The only trade that's realistic is Gallardo for Skaggs who's taking the mound tonight vs. Colorado. So cross your fingers he looks terrible out there today like Hellweg's 1st start. That would make him more likely to be traded. But then you are acquiring a (so called elite) SP who would be sporting a 6+ERA in 10 career ML starts. Perfect conditions to see one traded away for proven talent, but one that may just showing what he's going to give you for a couple to few seasons before becoming a positive pitcher on the team. If the "Dream" trade worked out exactly as planned. I'd expect Estrada traded. Hellweg/Thornburg/Hand/Burgos/Crosby/Familia to be BP guys. Lohse, Jungmann, Skaggs,Peralta and Lee to be the rotation. Nelson #6 2015 World Champs! -
The majority of the guys listed are FA after this season. Only Wilhelmsen isn't. Who's one of those controlled closers that a team might overpay in prospect for. It'd be a shame if Jack Z. would be let go before Hultzen and Walker played for them. They have up Zunino,Franklin, Miller, Pryor, Capps and Maurer . Still have others in the pipeline after Hultzen/Walker to watch the Mariners succeed in short time. At my count that would be 11 players graduated to the ML club by the 2015 season for a core of 3years minimum. With Felix/Seager that's a helluva 13man out of 25 to build around. And that's taking in to account Montero busts. But, if Jack Z were let go, I'd hope the Brewers wouldn't hesitate at all to find a job for him. Edit adding: Their weakness is not having a cornerstone in the OF in the lineup. Solution, Gomez for Hultzen,Pike and some other prospect this offseason. That would be one of the avenues I pursue to solve the Pitching while the trades before the deadline may solve other positional needs if pitching isn't a fit.

Skeets you're essentially suggesting that the DBacks are going to the World Series beating the likes of Atl,Cincy,St. L. and Pitts in the playoffs? If a NL GM is building his team to position itself for what 2-4Games max worth of using a DH? The guy has issues. He needs to prioritize making the playoffs first. My best thought in seeing Gallardo work for Arizona is taking either Kennedy or McCarthy off them in the trade. It'd be a Roster move for Arizona and either of the two fill the SP hole created by Gallardo leaving. This having in mind no Delgado/Skaggs in return. The thought is Arizona is just giving them up to just get rid of them. Addition by subtraction. They are better this year and next by doing so. Milwaukee can take it as a chance of having a veteran SP on the team rest of the season and maybe some kind of rebirth type year the following. Still there will be prospects coming Milwaukee's way. Davidson has to be a lock. Plus who then. -
Looking at standings. Sellers vs. Buyers. It's only been a week but a bad week in the W/L column makes a few other teams seem more in the seller vs. buyer department. Clear sellers are and wont change: Marlins,Astros,Brewers,Cubs,White Sox,Twins, and Mets. The in betweens right now are:Mariners,Giants,Padres,Angels,Phillies, and Blue Jays. The Mariners,Giants,Padres,Phillies, and Blue Jays are looking more to selling vs. Buying and these teams really impact the Brewers Trade Chips. Josh Johnson could become available. Cliff Lee/Chase Utley/ and Michael Young become Available. Chase Headley/Edison Volquez/Huston Street Hunter Pence Mike Morse/Kendry Morales/Raul Ibanez/Tom Wilhelmsen. Worsens ARam/Weeks/CL/RP value as well as Aoki's value. Really need to see Toronto/San Diego/ and Phillies win in the next 10 games to lessen their selling modes.

Random MLB News And Discussion 2013

LMAO!!! ^^^^^^ -
I don't see how the DBack trade Delgado for Gallardo. They need his arm right now, I think that fact is why they are looking at Gallardo. I stil wonder how they work this out after this season. Corbin,Miley,Skaggs,Delgado with Gallardo? What happens to Cahill/Kennedy/and McCarthy? You would think Cahill remains with his contract. So Kennedy? Does he just not get offered Arbitration this offseason and let go to Free Agency? McCarthy? Could the Brewers work a deal in this trade to take him for next season plus prospects? Just a way for Arz. to dump payroll? But for that to happen there needs to be more from Milwaukee than just Gallardo plus RP/s. Keep in mind the plus prospects are in line with the original idea of acquiring Davidson/Holmberg. I feel like Arizona needs to keep Delgado to balance their rising payroll'd players. Especially if they acquire Gallardo. But for that to happen there needs to be more from Milwaukee than just Gallardo plus RP/s. Arizona is in trouble when it comes to payroll and they need to shed some before taking on more. 84mil this year jumps to estimate of 106mil next year and 113mil in 2015. They lose practically no one to FA. How do they add KRod/Axford/Henderson or any other RPs when they have 16mil tied in to Putz/Bell next year on top of 7+ remaining this year? Note there's 4mil compensate from Miami for Bell this year/next. Cody Ross making 9.5mil 2014/+15 McCarthy's 10.25mil next year. Kubel has a 7.5 mil option for next year. I feel like with Kennedy,Bell,Putz,Ross,McCarthy, and Kubel the Arizona needs to dump 1 away before acquiring Gallardo for Delgado. So I wonder if a crazy trade happens. Let's say ARam is a part of the deal and the Brewers get Kubel and Bell. Then you throw in Skaggs/Davidson for Gallardo? I don't know. I'm too concerned here that Arizona can't operate with Gallardo added to their roster without Arizona working some kind of roster relief. Prado? Does he become the wrinkle they shed? Some how some way in that scenario we're talking getting Weeks and/or ARam removed first before committing to Prado. Do the Brewers take 3-5mil for Bell? and use him next season? I guess Arizona's best fit is Gallardo and KRod since he'll be a FA. I don't really see any ML players that I mentioned, taking up roster space at a high price, that I'd want coming over to Milwaukee. Prado maybe but in our trade ideas they include Davidson leaving an OF/2b spot for Prado to play....1b? Prado's a 3year commitment after this season so him playing 1b in the future wont work. Playing in the OF...That's our overpopulated spot. so 2b? Look over Arizona's roster. Tell me how you fit Gallardo beyond this season with what remains for next season.

Arizona Interest in Brewers Pitchers

I knew I read his velocity was down, I can't find it where it said 88-90 but here's a writeup on him: Skaggs continues to be one of the best pitching prospects in baseball, however in 2013 Skaggs has taken a tiny step backwards as his FB velocity and command are both a little down compared to 2012. Skaggs uses a great 4 pitch arsenal to get batters out, a FB that sits 89-92 and can touch 94 MPH, a 72-76 MPH CB that many believe is undoubtedly the best in all of the minors, a Change up that’s about 82-84 MPH has shown real progress in 2013 and is becoming a really good pitch against RHB. While he doesn’t used it much Skaggs has shown a slider in 2013 which is just a show me pitch right now. Tyler Skaggs still looks like he will be a number 2 starter, and the floor for Skaggs is a 1st end number 3 starter. And this from Prospect361.com Mid season report on prospects: 46. Tyler Skaggs (LHP) Team: Arizona Diamondbacks, League: Pacific Coast – Triple-A Previous Ranking: 20 Tyler Skaggs may be over the official limits for rookie eligibility by time served in the major leagues, but I wanted to put him in my Top 50 but with some serious reservations. On the positive, he has one of the best curve ball offerings in all of professional baseball (majors or minors). It’s flat out nasty with tremendous downward bite. When he’s on, it’s unhittable. On the negative, his fastball is below average. While the velocity averages 90.53, which is slightly above average for a lefty, the fastball has no life due do Skagg’s lack of momentum. In a word, Skaggs short-arms the ball and this lack of forward-momentum is degrading his overall stuff. While I use to think that Skaggs had a front-of-the-rotation profile, I believe his ceiling is that of a number three starter. -

Skaggs was top 15 to begin this season. Scouting Book has dropped him to 29th currently. His stock is falling and I'm thinking the idea is a sell high scenario on Skaggs and Buy Low scenario on Gallardo. That said Arizona has stated no interest in trading Skaggs. Yes I'm wavering my opinion on this to borderline No. I fear Skaggs with his Marcum like FB 88-90 won't hold up to #1 potential and potentially if he suffers control issues with his secondary stuff, never reach #2 levels. It's like he'd be Yovani Gallardo. I wouldn't mind if we got him in trade, but, I wonder if taking Skaggs alone vs. Asking for Davidson/Holmberg doesn't provide more upside than Skaggs alone? If Skaggs is a #3 with 2 potential. And Holmberg is a solid #3 plus Davidson being a decent long term 3b option. Then I'd take filling 2holes for the price of 1. And I imagine the Brewers get another player in return. -
I'm not a fan that Beede has 60 BBs in 90 some innings( something I read last night but don't have the number in front of me. The only thing I am confident in saying is that Milwaukee will finish with the worst record in the NL. Miami is going to continue to play better, they are younger with very few selling pieces to reduce their talent level for this season. Milwaukee on the other hand is older, has few young talent to replace all these veterans that should be traded away. Making the team worse overall to finish the season. I feel like White Sox or Houston will compete with Milwaukee for the top 3 draft selections as they too like Milwaukee have valuable players to see lost in trade making bad teams even worse. As to who the Brewers will draft with a top 3 selection? Rodon likely remains in top 3 pick so 33% chance he's selected. Trying to predict a HS player selection with a top 3 pick won't likely happen since there's so much time between now and the draft to see a HS player's stock rise and fall. Current best HS players projected are roughly(picking from various websites) Alex Jackson C Touki Toussaint P Justus Sheffield P Jack Flaherty Carson Sands P Trea Turner SS Justin Bellinger 1b Jacob Gatewood OF/3b/P? Grant Hockin. SP...Grandson to Harmon Killebrew.... Cameron Varga SP Nick Gordon SS Brother to Dee When it comes to College Players It's pretty much Rodon and Beede With Sean Newcomb, Michael Cederoth, and Nick Burdi giving chase. From what I read it sounds like Rodon, Toussaint, Jackson, Beede, Turner, and Bellinger fit a consistent top 10 consensus at the moment. My guess is Rodon if there. Or Turner and Bellinger if there. in that order.

Sorry PFX. Bradley may honestly be The BEST Prospect in all of Baseball Today. He's certainly the best Pitching Prospect. The rankings haven't caught up to it but Bradley will enter next season top 5 prospect in all of the minors. Count it. I'd trade Gomez today for him. That's how huge a Pitching prospect he is. Already had a discussion about this in the Gomez thread but Gomez for Bradley straight up was discussed as being hung up on. I don't even think Segura(due to age) could net Bradley at this point. He's untouchable. I made my proposal of Francisco to be included in the deal to get Skaggs/Davidson. Or Scooter to get Owings. The Francisco idea helps fill DBacks OF need by sliding Prado in to it. DBacks could rotate Eaton/Prado/Francisco under certain platoon situations. I don't know why the DBacks are searching for OF help. Eaton is there. Kubel. Parra. Prado. and Pollock. I think it's more in speculation because they aren't getting the numbers you expect and the team should look to improve when looking at the numbers. But they have able bodies. Eaton comes off the DL and who knows how big an impact he makes? But it could be bigger than any OF they try acquiring in trade. -
Let's put this down for now. And come back every 2 weeks. Hunter Morris YTD: .244/.333/.492/.826 17/2b 2/3b 15HR 39RBI 33BB 61K What kind of AAA line does Morris need to have for the Non-Believers to quit thinking he won't be ready next season from this starting point? Let's say all the Slash lines decrease. Yes, then Morris would look ill prepared. Or the slash lines increase. He finishes .272/.351/.527/.878? Is that not good enough to believe he can be ready for next season? Considering where he'd have come from to reach those numbers? I expect him to continue to improve. and get called up in Sept. I hope as our everyday 1b at that point to finish the season. So then he shows if he the improvement in AAA as the year went on, could be counted on next season. Making this a completely mute idea.

That is my sentiment exactly. But they do have Davidson/Owings 2 players that if we can wiggle away would fit nicely on the team 2014 and beyond. Owings at 2b. Davidson at 3b. Or wiggling Holmberg on top...Or taking Jake Barrett as a future closer. I'd send Henderson in the Gallardo deal if Barret came back in return with Skaggs.. Or snaking Andrew Chafin. Arizona has a bunch of upside guys that I'd try hard to get creative with to acquire more than just Skaggs. Something I just looked up but Career numbers: Gallardo: 1,018IP 3.75ERA 1018ks 392BBs 1.309WHIP $4mil owed or less remaining this year 11.25mil next year. 13mil option 2015. Or Player B:1,076IP 3.84ERA 912Ks 366BBs 1.284WHIP Super-2 Status 4th yr Arb eligible. 5mil or less remaining this year. TBD price next year then Free Agency. Likely making more than 12mil next year. Who is Player B? Matt Garza. Obviously Garza is pitching better now today, but overall, I guess when looking at the market trading for Garza or Gallardo, Gallardo has the intangibles Garza doesn't possess. Younger, Payroll Obligations are known, Controlled 1 more year, Cheaper. So whatever Garza or Gallardo receive in trade, it sets what the other should be worth. Of course if Arizona gets Gallardo on his current lower value first, they can get away with less cost than if Garza is traded away for a premium haul. Let's say San Diego goes after Garza and gives up Max Fried to do so? Now, DBacks if they want Gallardo have no choice but to look at parting with Skaggs. Vs. maybe just Holmberg Plus if they are the first to make a deal -

You wonder if posturing is taking place by asking for Skaggs in the discussion. Which is great imo. Maybe the team doesn't just settle with Skaggs and low tier prospect. But instead get what we hope which is a duo of upper prospects plus that lower tier prospect. You could swap so many players in trade with the DBacks to make something happen. Say Owings for example. Since Arz doesn't have a true place for him ask for him but offer up Scooter to be a AAAA backup to Hill. Owings,Davidson,Holmberg? for Gallardo,Gennett, KRod/Axford. Done deal? -
Arizona Interest in Brewers Pitchers
brewcrewdue80 replied to bensheeps's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
That's great Crew but the problem is the Plus that goes to LA or Arz is the same each would want. KRod or Henderson. Maybe Axford. So when 1 deal is done it's harder to work with. I'm going to assume a team takes both Axford(team controlled)and KRod as a rental so Axford is in place for next season if that team cannot keep KRod. I don't know what's going to happen honestly, if Gallardo improves, ARam improves and teams get desparate maybe we can talk upper echelon of prospects that right now don't sound realistic. Of course to start 2013 I'd think both Arz/LAD would have done the upper echelon of deals in an instant and we as Brewer fans likely would have been upset with those deals. -
That's basically what I'm harping on. They are all risks. I'd rather heap my money in to the 1 who sounds the most talented which comes with the least risk. Vs. Tossing medium amounts across 4-5 guys hoping to hit on 1 maybe 2. It's one of those strictly Lottery Ticket deals that is also like a Raffle. Paying to buy the highest regarded 16yr old is like buying the 50 tickets in to the raffle at a buy 40 get 50 price. Putting your money in to the lesser group of prospects is like buying 25 tickets. 15 tickets. and 10tickets. It's still 50 tickets but it cost full price rather than the discount. I'm really just being a homer and want the Brewers to win somewhere that they can with everybody. Or at least compete fairly well. They may not have had the funds for a top 4 ranking today prospect but they did to buy #'s 5-10 Something the power teams shouldn't have had the ability. The Cubs/Rockies certainly used their funds to attain the top of crop. But so did the Rangers taking on the penalties full force. I think they see what the value is in these kids in return on their money should they live up to the expectations. In Fact, I think what Texas is doing is awesome. They clearly have the money to expend even with penalties. Still the return/ leg up they are getting over the other 30teams by doing so could turn out well worth the gamble. I hope Texas signs yet another top 10 international prospect just to continue making a statement.

This is very good news if you ask me. One wonders, let's speculate the 3b Davidson. Hard to give up if you ask me, but what if the Brewers threw Francisco with Gallardo/KRod in trade to accomodate Arizona parting away with Davidson. And then try adding Skaggs or 2 or SP prospects with Holmberg+ If Milwaukee gives up Francisco, the acquisition of Francisco gives Arizona the depth to move Prado back out in the OF time to time which also solves that speculated need. All things considered, I'd take something promising right now for Gallardo, as he's fallen in to the not that promising category that is also expensive. The biggest thing with any deals sending Gallardo/Lohse away is the fact that there's nobody to step forward in their shoes immediately aside from taking both Nelson/Jungmann to take their place right? So speculating a return in this deal likely should include Skaggs, so he can immediately be in the Brewers Starting rotation. Or you're including a guy like Zeke Spruill to come along in the deal to be a Starter which then means Holmberg/Spruill plus Davidson? I think that is where adding Francisco in the mix comes because I think Davidson And Holmberg is currently to much to ask for Gallardo plus RP. -
If the offer is only 6mi/yr for 2years. No way does Corey agree to that. He was a guy coming in to this season that could have had a 13-16MM 2-4year contract coming his way. So to sign a 2year deal for less than anything remotely what a 1yr value he could be worth would be dumb on his agent and Corey's end. From all accounts, Corey was a faltering RF in 2011. Now after 2 knee surgeries? I can't possibly imagine a team thinking he's a RF for them. And for the Brewers sake, they don't need any more RF with our glutton of OFs needing a place on this team to play. All those options at first base yet it makes sense to bring him back for 1year? The question for me is: With what, all those options are being paid, How many more wins does Corey provide to make it worth 5-10mil to sign him? For all we know Morris could turn out a 2-3 WAR 1b next season. or just 1WAR reasonably. On a team with no true pitching to lead them for 2014, why invest money in to it to be Quote from Melvin, "In the middle. We don't want to be in the middle"? That's all Corey Hart, like Lohse signings do is create a higher likelihood of finishing in the middle. And if the trade bait idea is really logical, what is stopping the team that could use Corey at 1b from signing him to a 2/22 mil contract? Why forego an added 1mil or 2mil a year signing only to trade away prospects that likely have more value than Corey in a year, when all it would have taken to keep those prospects and have Corey was 1-2mil a year over Milwaukee's offer to Corey? If Corey remains in Milwaukee, it's because he really wants to and it's on the incentive laden deal like HiandTight proposes. 5mil incentives to 10mil. But, I truly believe some other team will offer him 7mil guaranteed up to 10mil to play 1b for them. Remember, 1b in MLB today, has few stars and a major lack of depth to it. Prospects at 1b? Morris is the #2 rated among them. Yet we want Corey to return because Hunter may not be a decent MLB ballplayer? It shows just how much value Corey should command at 1b.

Predict the Brewers July Record
brewcrewdue80 replied to jjkoestler's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
13-13 with the 1-1. This is sorta the easy part of the schedule and I think it's a good thing to be out of the hunt because the team could have blindly led themselves to thinking they are in the playoff race w/o May's record. I said it last month, it's going to be a brutal August and a record at .500 and "buying" only to get destroyed from elite competition would have just set us back further. -
Time to trade Gallardo?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I agree Yo can increase his trade value when it comes to his ability as a pitcher. But his trade value continues to take a hit monetarily. What is less than 4mil owed the remainder of this season becomes 11.5 next season. Then 13 the year after(if picking up his option and at a #4 ability being shown that's unlikely right now) Yo just became a disappointment outcome for our franchise. We thought we had value with his contract, thought we had an Ace to the staff, and instead we are getting a pitcher closing in on Jeff Suppan territory this year and next with zero trade value. -
Castellanos is a top 20 prospect. Detroit can have Aoki,Ax and KRod for him. No chance of any more prospects in that deal. I'd be thrilled! Get it done DM! HA ha
-
Do I think he can get a 3yr deal? No not really. But if it's 3/21 and Corey is average with 20+HRs that team may think it was a steal. I'm thinking it's a 1yr deal for him but it will cost more in the 10mil range since they will be other bidders. Then if Corey performs he may look at a 10-11MM 2year deal following 2014. So then it's 30-32Mil for 3years vs. locking up 21mil for 3 years. Still don't want Milwaukee to pursue him at all. And my speculation is Corey gets 8-10mil for 1yr next season. He should end up on an AL team to be a 1b/DH protection if his knees don't give him enough athletic ability to field everyday.
