  1. Over the last four seasons the Brewers have spent about 350 million on payroll & won 300 games. The Mets have spent about 530 million on payroll & won 259 games. That is the life of being a Mets fan.
  2. I think this is a great time to be a Brewerfan. For a franchise that has long struggled to produce any pitching of note, we look to have two legit top of the rotation caliber pitchers in Woodruff & Burnes, plus probably the best two headed shutdown relief tandem in all of MLB with Williams & Hader. I agree, their stuff is pretty sickening. Filth the likes of which we've rarely ever seen. Look around the rest of the NL Central: the Pirates are probably the worst team in baseball, the Cubs were suppossed to have a Dynasty in the making that we for all intense porpoises put to an end in Game 163 of 2018, the Reds are already down one Cy Young winner plus their closer from last year. The Cardinals are still the Cardinals but even they could look a lil different with no Molina/Wainwright for the first time in forever. The Brewers, conversley, have lost no one of real consequence from 2020 & have pretty much an entire lineup due for significant positive regression in 2021 with probably enough change in the couch cushions to still make a couple two tree additions yet before the season starts.
  3. Corey Kluber is a 35 year old pitcher who has thrown 36 innings with a 5.65 ERA the last two years. Let someone else pay him to most likely be hurt or of limited effectiveness. I don't find it frustrating in the least that the Brewers aren't mentioned among the interested teams. Stearns & company have an established track record of putting together competitive rosters on a shoestring budget & for me personally its been thoroughly enjoyable to watch them win more games than seventeen of the twenty five teams that have outspent them over the last five years.
  4. Brett Anderson got a guaranteed major league deal, that is not the lowest tier. The lowest tier would be a minor league deal, like we signed Wade Miley to prior to the 2018 season.
  5. Ramirez (143 OPS+/5.7 WAR) and Lindor (122 OPS+/5.8 WAR) project about the same for 2021. Jose's contract is essentially for 3/33 versus 1/20 for Francisco, so I don't think Cleveland will have much interest in dumping Ramirez. His final option year in 2023 is still only 13 million.
  6. Do they have a decent farm? I'm assuming they would have given up their better players for Lindor, what's left? The prospects they gave up were rated #9/#10 on the Mets Top 10 by MLB.com so they still have most of their premium prospects. Then again, none of the Mets top seven guys have played above A ball so they might not line up the best if the Brewers are hoping to get MLB ready pieces back for Hader. The main guys in the deal Rosario & Gimenez have both been highly rated prospects in the past. Rosario was consensus Top 10 before 2017 while Gimenez peaked around the 30-50 range pre-2019. Looks like Rosario has three years of control left while Gimenez has five.
  7. Hot Stove is really heating up. Eight teams (Mets, Padres, Royals, Dodgers, Braves, Tigers, Blue Jays & Giants) have now signed a free agent to a contract with at least a five million AAV.
  8. Grossman is essentially a one true outcome guy with a top 20 walk rate since 2016, though it has been trending down steadily. Likely because from 2016-19, he didn't really show enough power (73 ISO+, about the same as Cheslor Cuthbert) to make pitchers fear throwing him strikes. Then again, his power spiked in 2020 (141 ISO+, about the same as Ian Happ) so maybe Detroit is hoping that is the result of some kind of swing/approach change & it will carry over for 2021/22.
  9. Imagine how frustrating it must be being a fan of the Blue Jays or Mets (or Phillies or Giants or Angels or Tigers or Rangers or Mariners or Rockies or Orioles or Royals or Twins or Diamondbacks or Reds) to see your favorite team spend all kinds of money & they still can't even win as many game as the lowly Milwaukee Brewers have over the last five years.
  10. Brewers & Cardinals look like the top two teams at the moment & the Pirates are likely to be a complete non-factor, while the Cubs & Reds seem to be in a little bit more flux. Would really love if the Cubs went into full on tear down mode, but I think they are going to stick around and try to at least cobble something halfway competitive together for 2021. Also will be interesting to see if the Reds continue selling after Iglesias, or if they will try to reinvest that money around the edges after spending 150+ million on Moose, Castellanos, Akiyama & Miley last offseason.
  11. Omar | 2020 ZiPS OPS+: 106 | 2020 actual OPS+: 53 | 2021 ZiPS OPS+: 94 Urias | 2020 ZiPS OPS+: 95 | 2020 actual OPS+: 64 | 2021 ZiPS OPS+: 90 Avisail | 2020 ZiPS OPS+: 107 | 2020 actual OPS+: 79 | 2021 ZiPS OPS+: 98 Hiura | 2020 ZiPS OPS+: 115 | 2020 actual OPS+: 88 | 2021 ZiPS OPS+: 102 Yelich | 2020 ZiPS OPS+: 149 | 2020 actual OPS+: 111 | 2021 ZiPS OPS+: 135 Is it possible that all five of these guys underperform their projections by 25-50% again in 2021? Sure, it's possible. It's also highly unlikely. Who knows how the rest of the offseason shakes out, but right now my NLC tiers would be Brewers/Cardinals (small gap) Cubs/Reds (large gap) Pirates.
  12. If we are assigning credit for Rodgers going from a pretty pedestrian season by his standards in 2019 to an MVP caliber season in 2020, what is your breakdown? Mine would probably be something like (50%) year two in the scheme (30%) improved offensive line play (10% each) emergence of Tonyan/drafting Love putting yet another chip on Rodgers shoulder
  13. The Packers didn't get Aaron Rodgers any help in the offseason & still somehow managed to score the most points in the NFL. The Packers defense was on the field for the fewest amount of snaps of any unit in the NFL. I don't believe either of these things just happened by accident, but rather are due to some degree of intentionality on the part of a pretty astute front office & coaching staff.
  14. Any word who the Nickelodeon broadcast crew will be? I'll guess Rex Ryan & Dan Schneider.
  15. Looks like Vegas thinks the Rams are the best bet to upset in the NFC... NO (-9.5) TBB (-8) BUF (-7) SEA (-4.5) PIT (-4) BAL (-3.5)
  16. A little further context for the non-NE multiple SB winners over the last 25 years... GBP: 18 playoff appearances PIT: 15 playoff appearances BAL: 13 playoff appearances DEN: 12 playoff appearances NYG: 9 playoff appearances
  17. The Packers are one of only six franchises with multiple Super Bowl wins in the last 25 years... New England (6), Denver (3), Green Bay (2), Pittsburgh (2), Baltimore (2) & New York (2). Of the teams outside of New England, I think you could make a pretty solid case for GB being the 2nd best team of the last 25 years. Could they maybe have done some things differently along the way & been definitively the 2nd best team of the last 25 years? I guess. At worst, the Packers have been a top 5 team over the last 25 years. Hard for me to complain about that in a 32 team league, especially as someone who remembers pre-Majik Packers football.
  18. Derrick Henry is the first player since Leroy Kelly in 1967-68 to lead the league in rushing attempts, rushing yards & rushing touchdowns in consecutive seasons. Against the Green Bay Packers in 2020 he rushed 23 times for 98 yards & no touchdowns.
  19. Something else I thought was kind of interesting is that even in the non-Yasmani years of 2018 & 2020 the Brewers catchers as a whole (Pina 1195 innings +10 framing, Kratz 491 innings +5.4 framing, Narvaez 285 innings + 3.9 framing, Jett/Jacob 370 innings +0.1 framing) have still managed to outproduce Contreras & Caratini, mostly on account of Willson grading out at -25.4 framing runs over 2018-20. 2018 | MIL: 76 wRC+ (21st) 1.9 WAR (15th) | CHI: 88 wRC+ (14th) 0.3 WAR (22nd) 2019 | MIL: 118 wRC+ (1st) 6.5 WAR (1st) | CHI: 107 wRC+ (4th) 3.0 WAR (11th) 2020 | MIL: 76 wRC+ (20th) 1.5 WAR (8th) | CHI: 78 wRC+ (19th) 1.1 WAR (11th)
  20. 287/384/376 (125 wRC+) 13.7 BB% 15.1 K% 231/346/344 (110 wRC+) 14.1 BB% 26.0 K% One of those is Brice Turnag at age 19 in Appleton, the other is Trent Grisham at age 19 in Appleton. 273/324/477 (129 wRC+) 6.0 BB% 28.8 K% 242/320/359 (97 wRC+) 8.8 BB% 20.8 K% One of those is Mario Feliciano at age 20 in A+, the other is Willson Contreras at age 22 in A+. I personally think Turang & Feliciano posted some pretty impressive results last time they played, all while being both young for their respective levels & playing premium up the middle defensive positions so I would prefer not to trade either for Contreras.
  21. Yup. Two more turnovers too. Plus a couple dropped picks & another fumble overturned by an offsides penalty. That brings the tally to... First 8 weeks: 4 turnovers. Last 9 weeks: 14 turnovers.
  22. I only care about the bye. Meh ... I’m happy to have the bye, but guys get hurt in practice too. Losing Bahktiari has really bummed me out. Yeah, it sucks. Didn't matter today though.
  23. If drafting a QB in the first round provides your incumbent QB even the tiniest modicum of inspiration to turn in an MVP season...does that mean it paid some dividends in year one?
  24. Score thirty two tree points da next tree games & dat's dat.
  25. Worked for one team (MIN) this year. Other strategies that proved effective were only allow ten points (TB) & get four turnovers (IND). I still feel like if our run defense is as bad as many make it out to be that more teams would have exploited it all the way to victory. Maybe Chicago will be number two.
