  1. I disagree with this. Having a low payroll can be a stealth advantage because you aren't able to hand out mega contracts (which more often than not turn out badly). With our limited payroll we have won the 7th most games in MLB since 2017. Plenty of teams that have spent more than us have won less, no team that spent less than us has won more in that time.
  2. With the increased competitiveness of the NL this year what you wanted was a pipe dream. The odds of the Brewers cruising to the division title & not having to fight it out for 162 games (& maybe even more) were always extremely low. We are currently 1/2 game out of the Wild Card & 2 games out of the division with 2 months to go. Sounds like the perfect time to throw in the towel, or maybe this was just the most likely outcome all along so why stop fighting now?
  3. How were you feeling when we went 5-1 in the 6 games prior to yesterday's loss? Like it was a desert mirage?
  4. Brewers Run Support by Starter Woodruff (20 GS) 6.4 Peralta (8 GS) 6.0 Chase (15 GS) 5.3 Davies (20 GS) 4.5 Adrian (6 GS) 4.2 Gio (7 GS) 3.9 Jhoulys (18 GS) 3.4 A good deal of that 16-4 record is exceptional hitting support.
  5. Teams didn't want to give up a draft pick that would be around a 40 FV prospect to acquire Grandal for a full year, why would they give up more than that for two months? Last year we acquired Moose for Phillips (still in AAA) & Lopez (-0.8 WAR w/ KC in 2019). Moose is hitting better than last year so maybe we could get something a little better than this? The return for either player probably won't be remotely good.
  6. Our results over the last 2.5 years are infinitely more relevant to our prospects of future success than anything that happened in the 47.5 years which came before.
  7. The Brewers have won the 7th most games in MLB since 2017. That is not mediocre. It's actually the 2nd best multi-season run in franchise history, trailing only 1978-82.
  8. I've generally found telling people "to put on their big boy pants" has the opposite of the desired result. Ah, who am I kidding? I've never told anyone "to put on their bog boy pants".
  9. Yes. I also remember that no one expected them to contend in the first place, so viewed in context it was still a very successful season. I long for the day when missing the playoffs by 1 game is not considered a "very successful season" for the Brewers. I guess when a team exceeds preseason expectations by 10 plus wins & fights for the playoffs instead of a top 10 pick, it's hard for me to consider that coming up short. Most preseason projections had us around a 50/50 shot at the playoffs this year, so even if we miss the playoffs this season I wouldn't consider that a failure either. It was always a realistic outcome. Since 2017 we've won the 7th most games in MLB. I think that's pretty good, all things considered.
  10. Yes. I also remember that no one expected them to contend in the first place, so viewed in context it was still a very successful season.
  11. You were saying things like this last night too. No one was writing Saladino off because of 50 PAs. He has over 1,000 PAs at the MLB level. I'm thrilled of course, about the last two nights, and it must feel awesome for him. Right. Prior to this year he had a 70 OPS+ career. Steamer projects him for a 70 wRC+. I believe his true talent likely lies somewhere between there & the 85 OPS+ he posted with us last season.
  12. Can't tell if the crowd is cheering because we have bases loaded with the go ahead run at the plate or because Derek Johnson came onto the field.
  13. The reason we got Moose & Grandal on cheap one year deals in the first place is because both players had soft markets. The draft pick teams didn't want to give up to sign Grandal would have been a 40 FV prospect. I don't see anyone giving us anything better than that now for two months of Yasmani. With the way teams value prospects I don't think two months of Moose gets you anything more than a 40 FV guy either. I'll take two months of competitive baseball & a possible postseason berth over a couple two tree middling prospects.
  14. Here's a sampling of how a few of the better hitting 29-31 year olds at AAA have done in their MLB looks... David Freitas AAA 2019 361/446/517 (141 wRC+) David Freitas MLB career 214/270/313 (62 wRC+) 127 PAs Corban Joseph AAA 2019 375/430/595 (150 wRC+) Corban Joseph MLB career 208/269/292 (54 wRC+) 26 PAs Jarrett Parker AAA 2019 292/420/694 (144 wRC+) Jarrett Parker MLB career 249/330/441 (107 wRC+) 397 PAs Ryan Goins AAA 2019 322/406/531 (139 wRC+) Ryan Goins MLB career 229/276/336 (64 wRC+) 1,528 PAs Yadiel Hernandez AAA 2019 330/404/581 (135 wRC+) Yadiel Hernandez MLB career 000/000/000 (0 wRC+) 0 PAs Jace Peterson AAA 2019 313/397/514 (132 wRC+) Jace Peterson MLB career 228/318/330 (77 wRC+) 1,524 PAs As much as I'd love it if Freitas did indeed figure it all out, odds are he is just another old guy having a big year in AAA with the juiced MLB ball.
  15. This was hilarious. Haven't decided yet if will positively or negatively impact Brice's placement on my BF.net midseason prospect ballot.
  16. The rotation lines up as Gio / Chase / Davies for the Cubs series. No one will be pitching on short rest with the off day Thursday.
  17. There was a poster on the Bucks RealGM board during the Kohl years that a bunch of people seemed to think was Jim Paschke because he was such a steadfast shill for all those terrible teams. I think Charlie Bell promised the RGM Bucks board a pizza party at one point too but never followed through.
  18. Holt the 7th round pick that hasn't played a professional game yet Holt? Your definition of a stud prospect may need to be narrowed a bit. Yelich could land two studs plus other good pieces, while Woodruff/Hader would likely bring back one stud each plus other good pieces. If all three are dealt you're probably getting four studs (50 FV+), then a bunch of 35-45 FV guys (which would be the range that Grisham, Rasmussen, Small, Kelly, Holt etc. fall into).
  19. Galvis has a career high wRC+ of 100 this year driven by a career high BABIP of .323 (compared to a .288 mark prior to this season). StatCast has him as the 30th "luckiest" hitter in MLB (min 100 PAs) so far with an expected wOBA of .286 versus an actual wOBA of .325. If you raise the PA threshold to 250 he has been the 12th "luckiest" hitter in MLB so far. I think Stearns & company will just roll with Orlando/Saladino/Mauricio (if he isn't dealt) & hope one of them gets hot over dealing for a regression candidate like Galvis.
  20. Wow, even Gantner managed an 87 wRC+. 15% worse than Gumby? Ouch. On the flipside Segura posted a 78 wRC+ in 1,927 PAs with the Brewers & has gone on to post a 113 wRC+ in 2,278 PAs since, so there is still a tiny sliver of a glimmer of hope (howsoever dim it may be).
  21. Brandon's highest IP in a season is 158 in 2016. Before today he was pretty much right at 6 IP per start (19 GS/114.2 IP) Even if he had made 32-33 starts he probably still would've come up short. No shame in that, though. After 28 pitchers threw 200+ innings in 2015 it declined to 15 in each of 2016 & 2017 then only 13 in 2018.
  22. I think the minutes will be divvied up something like... Bledsoe (30) Wes (24) Khris (32) Giannis (32) BroLo (24) Hill (24) Ersan/RoLo/DJ (40) DDV/Pat/Sterling/Korver (18) Think it will be interesting to see how the back up big/wing rotations work out. Would be nice if one or more of DJ, DDV, Pat or Sterling could take a step forward & become a solid rotation piece. I feel like they've all shown flashes here & there.
