  1. In regards to tomorrow's game. I assume this means it won't be available on foxsportsgo, mlbtv, etc. I would be more annoyed if I wasn't going to be at the game already, but regardless this is really stupid.
  2. I think at this point I’m more worried about our play. Twins, nationals, cardinals, diamondbacks, cardinals, cubs all in a row We are going to have to prove we can win those series. I’m very skeptical of that. Especially the road series. I think we would do well to be over .500 in those games. Would that be enough to make a move in the playoff race. I don’t know We never ever ever ever ever want the Cubs to win. The only way I would want that, is game 162 and we need them to beat the Cardinals for the Brewers to win the division. And even then, I couldn't even actively root for them...just silently hope.
  3. 44-16 against BAL, CWS, DET, KC, LAA, SEA, TEX, TOR 27-31 against everyone else. And in "everyone else" their interleague games are lumped in so there is some Miami in there. Usually, "well of course good teams beat the bad teams" is a thing but this year is different. A good deal of those AL tanking teams are historically bad. Dang, that's pretty telling. At the same time, we really haven't taken advantage of bad teams. But as you've noted AL bad teams are so much worse than NL bad teams. They've taken 4 of 7 against the Astros, 5 of 7 against the Rays, 5 of 6 against the Angels(they aren't a bad team)...every other team they have a winning record against is a really bad team. They are below 500 against the Indians, Athletics, Braves, Red Sox, Yankees, Phillies, and early season Mets. Meanwhile, the Brewers are below 500 against the Dodgers, Cubs, Marlins, Athletics, Giants, Mariners, Angels, and Padres. Half that list makes absolutely no sense. It basically tells you they can be really really good, but need to find consistency. Or, we just played some bad teams at the worst possible times(Notably Marlins and Giants)
  4. I was looking closer, and I'm not sure I am that terrified of this Twins team. Since the break, only Kepler and Cruz have hit well. They have a lot of guys in the 700s for OPS, but they were much more scary in the first half. We also are getting their worst 2 starters, and they don't have a lockdown bullpen arm. Also, most of their best relievers are RH. Only Taylor Rogers is LH. So even today, we'll likely be able to give Thames a key PH spot against a RH reliever like Romo or Dyson or May.
  5. I think with Grandal, you just have to trot him out there and hope he can turn it around. I'm not sure it does him much good to platoon or miss time. It might be somewhat better in the short term to play Pina against lefties and Braun at 1b, but obviously you get worse defensively at 1b and that probably is a negative impact on Grandal over the next month when he inevitably faces LH relievers late in games. Grandal is struggling on both sides of the plate right now, but I think you have to roll with him and hope he can find his early season magic. This is what I'm expecting. If yelich isn't starting, probably will see Hiura 2 and everyone else slides up...Grisham would slot in 7th. Cain Yelich Braun Hiura Moose Grandal Pina Perez/Arcia P
  6. Cruz would've gotten 2 ABs in this series at most, anyways. Cruz has been a ridiculous HR hitting monster all season. He's been a fixture in the utility spot on my fantasy team all season...especially lately he's been basically unfair. He has at least 2 games with 3 hr this season with over 30 on the season...while missing time here and there and in all NL parks. 2 AB, I'd probably just walk him twice if possible and deal with the next guy.
  7. I know a lot of people are dogging Cain, he's actually been hitting the ball really hard since the break. Lots of line drives as well, I think he's been fairly unlucky on balls falling in and that will inevitably change. I'll be very happy to get one of two against this offense...
  8. Bahahaha, I wish he'd take it. It would be almost as hilarious as the Jay Cutler extension...
  9. One thing I've noticed on Cubs tickets is you'll do much better with premium seats. I did pretty darn well on my Saturday and Sunday loge infield Cubs tickets on 7/27 and 7/28. I've noticed the April or September games tend not to do as well, the summer games I do much better. Though last year, with the way the playoff race shaped up...tickets spiked considerably and I made an absolute killing on my Labor Day Cubs tickets. I would tend to agree tickets will probably stay down for the Sept weekend this year for a number of reasons, but there's always the chance both the Brewers and Cubs start playing good baseball over the next few weeks and that becomes a fairly critical matchup. It probably will be for at least one team, but I think it needs to be for both teams for ticket prices to jump.
  10. Knock on wood here, but since the all-star break...4 of the 5 currently in the starting rotation have pitched pretty well. ERA's are 2.45, 6.23, 3.20, 4.00, and 1.59...I'll add that Lyles number in here is as a Brewer only. The bullpen has been a serious problem since the all-star break. I bet without looking, I could give you all 4 guesses as to which reliever with 10+ appearances has the lowest ERA/WHIP since the break...and nobody would guess it was Junior Guerra with a 3.00 ERA and 0.87 WHIP. The offense has also obviously been the biggest problem. Hiura, Yelich, Braun, and Pina have OPS over 900 since the all-star break. Nobody else is over 800. Moose is 689, Cain is 746, Arcia is 457, Grandal 641, Thames 726, Gamel 599, Grisham 790. And August has been specifically bad for most of these guys. So obviously, need a few guys to step up offensively and a couple bullpen arms to find it and become lockdown guys over the next month. I'm specifically looking at Moose, Grandal, Cain, Jeffress and Hader. Those are guys that need to start producing immediately if we're going to make the playoffs.
  11. Thanks, I figured that was probably the case...a guy can hope though right?
  12. Opening day is such an event at miller park, it's very likely we actually have a home field advantage against them for a change. Hard to imagine many cubs fans getting their hands on tickets.
  13. Does the 1-1 also guarantee us that Rodgers won't get injured the first 2 games? I'd play them out. We're going to have to beat teams of this caliber at some point in the season.
  14. I think Peralta is firmly in the bullpen at this point, but I wouldn't write off Burnes completely as most seem to. He's still young, he clearly has the stuff, something is simply off right now. The arm is so good, I think the smart money should be on him finding a fix eventually and being a really good arm for us at some point. Maybe that's 2020, maybe not. I think Woodruff is probably the only lock at this point. Anderson is a lock if his option is exercised. Have to think it probably will be but no guarantees yet. Unless we add someone, it will probably be Davies, Nelson, Burnes, Suter, Houser, Supak, Brown and Faria competing for 3 rotation spots. I think smart money should be on us bringing in someone like Lyles/GG and letting that group compete for 2 spots instead of 3. In an ideal world, we shell out and finally bring in a high end arm for whatever prospects we have to pair with Woodruff...but Stearns has shown he's hesitant to make that move.
  15. Does anyone know if Suter by chance has improved velocity due to a better ligament? I know sometimes that happens. He's never struck out guys like this before. Man it could be huge if Suter came back in the next couple weeks for the stretch run.
  16. Just curious, did anyone actually buy his whole "my wife dropped a suitcase on my hand" thing? I don't see any scenario that didn't involve him punching something.
  17. That's a somewhat fair point I think. I also think he was leaving his peak physical years and was simply not a good enough hitter to maintain production once he left his physical peak. I don't really fault Lucroy for wanting to catch full-time...and frankly it worked out fantastic that he did...as Lucroy led to Brinson which led to the 50/30 club.
  18. I'm also going to point out, the Cubs have not won a road series since April...and the only 2 they won in April were against the Dbacks and Marlins. They've played some other cupcake teams on the road the last few months...but haven't won any series. They start a 10 game road trip today. No tough travel and no tough teams...Cincy/Philly/Pitt...will be curious to see if they can shake their road woes or if they manage to lose 6 or 7 of these 10 games. Safe to say we are all hoping for the latter.
  19. Despite their competition being super easy, I am a bit concerned about the Mets win streak...considering their rotation strength and bats have been heating up. I've been starting 3 Mets position players on my fantasy team for a couple weeks now...mostly just noting that this team is good right now in every facet of the game. The schedule gets tougher this week, so maybe they fall back to reality a bit. I firmly believe the Brewers will make the playoffs if they start to really heat up. It's hard to overly concern myself with other teams...it's as simple as the Brewers performance for me. In my opinion...88 wins is probably a playoff team...90 wins probably get the division. Can we go 28-18...or maybe even 30-16?
  20. There are quite a few good 1b options set to hit free agency next year. We shouldn't be exercising Thames option, we probably can get similar production for cheaper. 3b is made tough by Shaw being so bad this year. Do we take the chance that he works hard in the offseason and corrects his mechanics/contact issues? Shaw will probably get a bit over $5 million next year in arbitration. I think we have to go with one or the other on Shaw/Moose...not both...unless of course we go with a RH 1b like Abreu/Pearce/Zimmerman/etc. There's also the whole Braun at 1b for significant time next year that could happen with Grisham forcing himself into the lineup. Quite a bit there for Stearns to unravel and plan for...
  21. Heyman really made a leap on this call. The Cubs were pretty much the only contender that needed catching help once Contreras went down. Round peg fits in round hole... As much as I like Lucroy, he is now the enemy and I hope he does terribly while a Cub.
  22. I suspect Yelich could PH if needed, but I'm guessing we'll use Shaw/Pina first. There's also a chance there's a roster move before the game...though that's getting less and less likely.
  23. I guess I'll rephrase and say Christian was lying...also I wasn't being overly serious. I'm sure it's just an abundance of caution. Need to keep him healthy for that October run...
  24. At this point, the Brewers must be lying about Yelich right? Lineup below. Grisham LF Grandal Moose Hiura Thames Braun RF Gamel CF Arcia Pomeranz
  25. I think finding a way to bring Burch Smith up today would be a good idea. He lasted pitched 8/1 and has been starting in the minors. He could eat innings. Maybe send Freddy down, or Faria back down, or Williams I suppose though that would be weird.
