  1. You must be watching the wrong game. Cardinals scored 2 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th to beat the Reds.
  2. According to Dillard Cain didn’t even leave the batters box as he watched that popup.
  3. It’s really unfair that some of these hitters on the Nats are just putting their bat on the ball and getting cheap hits. Don’t they know they’re supposed to swing from the heels at all times trying to maximize their exit velocity?
  4. I don’t disagree about pressure being on the starters to be perfect, but elite pitchers should respond to that pressure and keep the team in the game. Jacob deGrom is a classic example of a pitcher just doing his job when he isn’t getting any run support. This is starting to look a lot like late August and September of 2014 when the Brewers were getting pounded day after day after being in first place for much of the season. This is just happening earlier.
  5. While losing Peralta and Woodruf obviously hurts we can’t ignore the fact that the other 4 starters (Houser, Burnes, Lauer, and Ashby) are all stringing together crappy outings. For a team that is supposed to have elite starting pitching these guys are not coming close to doing the job they have to do.
  6. I would bat Yelich leadoff for the time being whether Wong is in the lineup or not. Maybe it will help Yelich if he just focuses on getting on base instead of being in a primary RBI position. And when he gets in base he is the team’s best base runner.
  7. The timing of this article is unfortunate. Especially this sentence: ”The 2022 Brewers team can rely on their starters to go into the 6th and 7th inning and shouldn’t have to rely on overwhelming depth”. With Peralta out for at least a couple more months, and Woodruff’s stay on the IL becoming significantly longer than expected, the starters aren’t covering the innings needed to get by without a deep bullpen. And that lack of depth is showing as deficits in the middle innings are turning into blowout losses. Several recent short starts from Burnes, Houser, and Lauer have put more strain on the bullpen. Good late inning relievers are pretty much wasted on a team that can’t take a lead into the late innings. Throw in an offense that has been the second worst in the NL since early May (better than only the Pirates) and the Brewers house of cards is collapsing. The Brewers don’t have many games where they score enough runs to take a comfortable lead into the late innings, so the lack of depth becomes more problematic if the same relievers are needed to finish almost every win. The bullpen might not be the Brewers biggest problem, but it shares some responsibility along with starting pitching, hitting, and defense for the recent slide.

  9. Rotten luck. By the time he’s able to get his feeling back, be able to throw all his pitches, and then probably make a rehab start or two he’s going to be missing at least a month of starts (and maybe more than that) from what originally looked like at worst a short stint on the IL. Woodruff’s complete comment about a teammate who had this issue was that “he had it for a couple of weeks and then it was gone.” If that’s what it is for Woodruff he won’t be ready for a rehab assignment for a couple of weeks.
  10. There’s a “soft hit” home run. Ashby isn’t missing any bats tonight, so another game of needing the bottom of the bullpen to keep the game close. That hasn’t been working well.
  11. So is the failure to make plays in the field that could be made.
  12. And Rowdy can’t do that. Let’s add base running blunders to the team’s woes.
  13. Ashby might need some work on the pitcher fielding drills.
  14. Since the Brewers pounded on the Reds at AFF in early May, the Reds have a better W-L record than the Brewers (and the best record in the division) and have scored 49 more runs. They haven’t been the same team that started 3-22.
  15. I don’t think this is completely accurate because the Reds beat the DBacks on Monday and Tuesday before losing the last two games of that series. Maybe he means that the 5 division teams have a combined 17 games of losing streaks, with the Brewers leading the way with their 6 game streak, the Reds 2 games, and the others 3 each. The overall point is fair. The division teams are having a bad week. For the Brewers, they are still clinging to their 1/2 game division lead, but more important is that their recent slide, combined with winning streaks by the Braves and Phillies, has dramatically tightened up the race for the NL playoff spots. The Brewers are now only 1.5 games ahead of the Braves and 4 games ahead of the Phillies, who are currently sitting in the 7th and 8th spots. Those margins were 8.5 and 10.5 games just last week.
  16. Other than McCutchen batting 5th I think this batting order is about as good as you’re going to do with this group of players. I would probably do something like: Yelich, Adames, Tellez, Renfroe (unless he is being put lower because of concerns with his hamstring), Urias, Narvaez, Taylor, Peterson, McCutchen. But, tinkering with moving a player up or down a spot or two isn’t likely to make much difference, especially when you don’t have any big stars to stick in the high, middle part of the order. I’ve been advocating for Yelich to bat leadoff for some time now so I’m curious to see how it works out.
  17. Fedde did pretty well in his earlier start against the Brewers, pitching 5 scoreless innings on 2 hits before giving up a 2 run HR to Tellez in the 6th. The Brewers lineup that night had 8 of the same hitters as tonight. Adames was out and Wong was in.
  18. The fact that Woodruff threw off the mound yesterday was already reported on the thread. I was just adding the update from later in the day. Nobody had posted anything about Counsell’s post game comments and when I saw the note on Yahoo’s Fantasy site it was new to me. I said his recovery was “slowed”. When you put the words “shut down” in quotes you make it sound like something that I or someone else actually said.
  19. https://twitter.com/adammccalvy/status/1535038464760086533?s=21 Yahoo Sports added the comment about no timetable for when he will throw again.
  20. Uhhh, just repeating what Adam McCalvy reported on Twitter this evening.
  21. Woodruff’s recovery has been slowed by a circulation problem in his fingers. No timetable for when he will start throwing again.
  22. My thought is that they were giving Hiura one last AB before shipping him back to AAA. But then given the way things have been going how shocked could you be if Adames tweaked something while fouling off 100 pitches.
