  1. I think Yelich is one of the biggest keys to the Brewers staying near the top of the playoff standings. Every game I hope to see him line one into left center like he does when he’s on. Lately most of what we see is K’s and weak grounders to the right side Given his history you have to wonder if he is wearing down and notjust in a temporary slump
  2. The bullpen is going to be getting a lot of work the next few days with a short start from Peralta and expected short starts from Woodruff and Misioroski on Sunday and Monday.
  3. I don’t know about general streaming, but I did notice that the Bally Brewers live post game, which usually runs for 30 minutes after the game telecast, is scheduled for 90 minutes today. I hope that means that they will be showing the home run derby as part of the post game show.
  4. Not only are the Marlins not walkovers, but for the last 6 weeks or so they have been one of the best teams in MLB. Since hitting their low water mark of 25-41 on June 11, the Marlins have gone 23-12. Only the Brewers astounding 25-8 is better during that period. That 23-12 record is the same as the record of the Blue Jays who have used their hot streak to race past the Yankees, who have been 15-21. The next best records in the NL during that period belong to the Phillies, Cubs, and Dodgers who all went 19-15, 3 1/2 games worse than the Marlins. In their last 9 series the Marlins have won 7 and split 1 four game series. Their only series loss was to the Brewers, who managed to win 2 of 3 close, hard fought games. This figures to be another tough series. The Brewers winning 2 of 3 should be considered a positive.
  5. I watched most of the game on DVR delay so wasn’t around to comment at the time. Anyone who watches the Brewers every day can see that Yelich has been scuffling (“not seeing the ball welll”) for a couple,of weeks. He has had several K’s where he looks terrible and several of those weak grounders to the right side. Most of his hits have been of the scratch variety. When he bunted with runners on first and third and 2 out it was a sure sign to me that he is not confident or comfortable at the plate.. A bunt there is not as inexcusable as what Siegler did last night. But a confident hitter in the middle,of the order would be looking for more than getting a run in with a bunt.
  6. I suspect that the delivery of the Ashby baby was planned. Otherwise extremely lucky. He pitched twice in the Dodgers series, then took off. The team had Thursday off and his paternity leave was Friday-Sunday and then came the All Star break. He was back in LA the next Friday after an 8 day leave.
  7. Often the player has a different opinion on when he is ready than the medical staff and manager.
  8. If you want to see terrible strike calls in one AB, check out Rengifo against Edwin Diaz in the 8th inning today. Tying run at the plate and called out on 6 pitches wide of the strike zone.
  9. Might give them a shot at winning 1-0 in 10 innings. What a terrible 6-9 in the Brewers order.
  10. Nope. Getting several days of publicity as they roll out the free burger promotion is worth a lot more than what they would have given away.
  11. The last thing I am concerned about is what the Brewers should do when Hoskins is ready to play. So much can happen between now and then in terms of injuries or Vaughn going 1 for his next 40. I really don’t see them keeping two guys with such similar and limited skill sets.
  12. Yelich keeps his on base streak alive. It’s amazing that he’s done that despite looking pretty bad at the plate for about two weeks.
  13. In my book, a guy who bunts with a runner on second and two outs doesn’t belong in the major leagues.
  14. No more, and probably less, than he has faced in his previous appearances. While many fans seem revved up about the 12th straight win, I think the professionals recognize this as just one of 62 remaining games. He'll be under more pressure if he's called on to start the series opener against the Cubs next week.
  15. The real crunch is going to come starting August 15 when the Brewers play 18 games in 17 days, including the 5 game series against the Cubs. During that stretch they're going to need everyone on the staff including some use of the Nashville shuttle. Especially because they will be carefully monitoring innings for some of the starters, I don't think we'll have to worry about anyone not getting enough work.
  16. But, if you use a six man rotation, when the team has an off day every week, like the Brewers do for the next few weeks, then your best starters will only be pitching once a week. No matter what else happens the innings for the bullpen will be coming when the Brewers have to go an extended period without an off day, especially when they have the doubleheader in Chicago in mid August. If we’re worried about pitchers getting rusty if they go too long without game action, we should be concerned about Misioroski tonight because he has only thrown one inning in two weeks.
  17. Myers is being saved for a situation that hasn’t come up yet. Like needing to go to the bullpen very early or burning up innings after the team falls behind by several runs. Or maybe a really big lead late in the game.
