  1. Sox have a meeting on the mound to discuss the scouting report on Hiura. “Throw fastballs above the waist and strike him out”.
  2. Tellez took advantage of his fourth strike. I thought for sure that he swung at the 2-2 pitch.
  3. It’s looking like this is going to be a 1-0 win or a loss. The Brewers don’t have a 1-0 win yet this year.
  4. And that they’re doing so well despite injuries to some of their best everyday players.
  5. The Brewers have enough trouble stringing hits together without hitting into a DP every inning.
  6. Reds vs Cardinals this weekend. Not sure who to root against more, especially now that Castellanos’ injury makes the Reds less of a threat. I just hope neither team sweeps.
  7. Anything new is going to draw its share of critics. One thing I like about the new name is that with the same number of syllables and the “dians” ending it rolls off the tongue just like Indians so it won’t seem like such a dramatic change.
  8. Half of the Brewers position players in the lineup are lefties which seems fine. At this point I’ll take giving Taylor a shot at facing Giolito over JBJ. The only deviations from the recent lineup are Tellez for Peterson and Taylor for Bradley. Seems like a sensible time to give Tellez a shot as Peterson has cooled off the last coupe of weeks and his defense was poor on Wednesday. The reverse splits might be the reasoning behind playing Taylor. Giolito has not been as dominant as expected this season, but he is till very capable of going deep into a game with little damage. Hopefully the Brewers can snap out of their midweek funk.
  9. This is why I just shuttle in now. yup, easy solution. We live in the north shore and I never take I-94 to a game. I get off 43 at Highland, take that to 35th St. and then Wisconsin and Bluemound to the park entrance there. We can leave the house less than an hour before the game starts and be parked, through the security screeners, and in our seats in plenty of time.
  10. So what your saying is that if you only look at LOSING games, the Brewers offense doesn't do well? You do realize that if you THINK about it, that's what you would expect because THEY LOST THOSE GAMES!!@!@! If you only look at the games the Brewers WON, you're going to find an offense that's near top of the league. Does that make the offense great? No, because you count the losses too... The Brewers have the 3rd best record in the NL and are 7ish games ahead of the 2nd place team. That means they're doing a lot more right than wrong. I bet if you looked at the games the Brewers don't score at all, they never win!!!! Can you make any other conclusions based on a few outlier games? NOPE... No, what I was saying is that the Brewers have been losing games much more because of poor offense than because of poor pitching. Scores of 2-0, 4-2, 4-3, 2-0, 4-3, 3-1, 5-2, and 6-3 would bear that out. It’s not like the pitching is falling apart and they’re losing games 9-8. When you only allow 30 runs in 8 games you should expect to win a couple. One stat that really jumps out at me is that the Brewers are 11-9 in games in which they have allowed exactly 2 runs. Across the whole league, teams are winning about 75% of games in which they allow 2 runs. In other words, the Brewers have an unusually high number of 2-0 and 2-1 losses, evidence that they have squandered too many well pitched games. The Brewers record establishes that they are doing more right than wrong. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be better. And one of the obvious ways it could be better is to take better advantage of the excellent pitching by cutting down on those games of scoring 2 runs or less.
  11. That’s fine, but it takes more than one guy to cover one inning when the starter only goes 5. Cousins also had a significant hiccup in the game against the Reds when he uncorked consecutive wild pitches and gave up a single with the bases loaded to turn a 2-0 lead into a 3-2 deficit. To me, the much bigger problem is only scoring 2 or 3 runs or less in games against mediocre pitching. If the Brewers don’t add some runs here they will have lost 7 of their last 12 and scored 3 or fewer runs in every one of the losses, and only 14 total in the 7 games. It takes almost perfect pitching to overcome that. And perfect defense too; at least not this shabby display in the field Agreed. I should have said perfect pitching and fielding.
  12. If he’s healthy, why not give Hader an inning here? He’s only pitched one inning since the ASG, and was shaky in that one with a walk and a bullet that Urias fortunately turned into a game saving DP. And he was serving up gopher balls before that. If they need Hader for a save this weekend there might be some concern that he’ll be rusty again.

  14. The Brewers have been sluggish in all areas in these two games. Hopefully getting a couple of their top pitchers on the mound will wake them up this weekend. They’re going to be up against pitching far better than what the Royals are rolling out there.
  15. With Williams and Boxberger out, who are those better options that can get you to the 9th inning? This is a pretty shaky bullpen right now, especially with Hader going through a rough stretch. I like Cousins over Suter for sure. Then who for the 7th and 8th.?

  17. Sometimes playing guys in positions that aren’t their usual ones doesn’t work well.
  18. He’s had 4 or 5 ABs where he has driven the ball, but keep mixing in a few K’s and weak pop ups to left and grounders to the right side. Baby steps.
