  1. That’s true, but we’re talking about the Brewers offense. I don’t care at all about the Rangers.
  2. I mean, in the 5 games since the Cubs series we have scored 30 runs ... not excusing today but still. 21 against the Pirates, 9 against the Rangers in 3 games. Fortunate to get two wins over the weekend with that kind of production. Will probably need more than 3 runs a game against teams like the Twins, Nats, Cardinals, Astros, and Cubs.
  3. That was a pretty dreary defeat. At least the Brewers managed to go .500 over the last two weeks.
  4. You can make any hitter or team look bad when you cherry pick games.
  5. It always bugs me when someone says (as Schroeder just did) when a team breaks a late 0-0 tie that “no big deal, you need a run to win anyway”. But it can be a big deal. Now you need at least two runs to win in a day when baserunners, much less runs, have been hard to come by.
  6. I have a hard time being too hard on a player playing out of position failing to make a quick reaction play on a hard hit ball. I’m far from convinced that Thames would make that play. It’s not like it was hit right at him.
  7. Considering how any scrub lefty called up from the minors seems to hold the Brewers offense in check, it shouldn’t be surprising that a good one can shut them down completely. Also it doesn’t help when I don’t use you’re correctly That’s so common in the social media era that it isn’t worth noting. You get credit for noticing it at all.

  9. I think it’s more likely that they’ll invest those dollars on a different hitter or two. Well that would be a shame. Eventually having a stable, above-average staff would be nice. Sure it would, but the Brewers aren’t going to try to get there by taking on Yu Darvish type contracts. They need guys like Burnes and Peralta to develop the way Woodruff did. They will probably be in the market for a shorter term, less pricey contract, like they got with Chacin, but they aren’t going to go for a $20 million a year for 4 years or longer type,of contract. If
  10. I think it’s more likely that they’ll invest those dollars on a different hitter or two.
  11. My biggest concern with Hader’s multi inning outings isn’t that he can’t be effective in them, but that they necessarily limit how often he can be used. And you have to wonder if those outings early in the year have led to his recent problems. Looking at Hader’s year long statistics can be misleading at this point because his performance in his 13 appearances since July 1 has been significantly different than the 30 that came before it. Who knows if fatigue or minor injury might be affecting his command?
  12. I fully expect Yelich to be out again today with the off day tomorrow. Certainly not a gravy game today. A 6-0 week would help overcome much of the damage of last week’s 1-5 and sweep by the Cubs. I agree that the use of Hader for multiple innings should have been junked some time ago. As I and others halve been saying for a long time, if nobody else in the bullpen can be trusted to pitch a scoreless inning, the team is screwed anyway. Using Hader to the point of making him ineffective just makes things worse. And, since the beginning of July, Hader has had a number of shaky outings.
  13. I think I won’t watch the video. Some things are better left to the imagination or ignored completely. I was at the game and didn’t realize what happened right away. After Houser muffed that easy dribbler, I probably looked away and looked up to see the trainer coming out. So, my immediate thought was that he had hurt himself. It was only when I saw the trainer “cleaning up” behind the mound that I knew what happened.
  14. Maybe I should only watch the Brewers when I go to the games. Tonight’s win makes it 10-1 for the season. On TV they don’t do so well.
  15. I don’t see looking at the last 10 weeks of the season as cherry picking. Over the last 10 weeks the Brewers have been bad. If it makes people feel better, I withdraw any argument that they have been “really bad”. I can’t say it makes me feel much better about the Brewers that the Pirates have been worse. Maybe folks wouldn’t be so offended if I said that the Brewers are a mediocre team that has played bad (bordering on really bad) baseball for the last two months.
  16. If my counting is correct, the Brewers are 25-28 against the teams you have listed as bad or really bad. That’s 12-4 against the Pirates and 13-24 against everyone else. The Brewers were a good team for the first two months, but since then they have been somewhere between bad and really bad. Maybe they can suddenly become good again and make a run for the playoffs. But they haven’t played like a good team even in winning the last 4, and that kind of shoddy play isn’t going to cut it against better teams.
  17. I’m focusing on the Brewers team as it is constructed today and the way it has played the last two months. Until the little four game winning streak (thanks, Pirates) the Brewers had the second worst record in the NL since the middle of June when they last reached ten games over .500. Comparing the Brewers regularly losing series to bad teams to the Yankees losing one series to the Tigers is ridiculous. Today’s Brewers are a pretty bad team with a makeshift starting rotation, a collapsing bullpen in which even Hader is unreliable, and an underachieving offense. Their next 25 games are against teams that currently have winning records. If they are still in realistic contention after those games, I will be surprised.
  18. I agree that the Cubs didn’t collapse, but they didn’t win a series over the Brewers in September. The Brewers took 2 of 3 in both September series with the Cubs.
  19. I get people being frustrated that we've sputtered to a 61-56 record based on expectations, but when people say a team that's 5 games over is "really bad", I look at the Orioles and Tigers and Marlins, and I wonder what THOSE teams are, if the Brewers are "really bad". Watching the Marlins, Mariners, Giants, and Padres pound on the Brewers might give someone the impression that the Brewers are really bad.
  20. I think this season has more candidates for ugliest win of the season than any in Brewers history. That's a lot of W's then! No, it means not enough solidly played and pitched wins.
  21. Did the problems really need exposing? I think everyone in the league knows the pen is a dumpster fire. I should have said “highlights” instead of “exposes”. People can tell me “anything can happen in baseball” all they want, but I would challenge them to show me a team that has made the playoffs with (1) starting pitchers who almost never go more than 5 innings, (2) a bullpen with no consistently reliable relievers (Hader can no longer be considered consistently reliable), and (3) a middle of the pack offense.
  22. I think this season has more candidates for ugliest win of the season than any in Brewers history.
  23. A necessary win to avoid a disgusting loss. But, another one that exposes the Brewers problems. There have been a lot of those this year.
