  1. Competitive balance is not universally desirable or desired. I consider competitive balance’ to mean 30 similarly mediocre teams with a few random outliers.
  2. Eventually the Dodgers run out of roster spots and can no longer sign more players? 🤷‍♂️
  3. Everyone should agree Milwaukee having a higher payroll would be nice. It is suspect to want the Brewers to commit a quarter billion or half billion dollars to brand name free agents. That’s just poor decision making in many cases. I would rather root against MLB teams that spend too much money unwisely than watch a product that is mediocre by design like the NFL. I loved rooting against Dallas and San Francisco in the early 90’s but those teams don’t exist in the NFL anymore since 1994 salary cap.
  4. The very highest spending teams don’t appear in the World Series as often as we think. It is not uncommon for teams outside of top ten in payroll to make it to World Series. I think the Brewers have been objectively more entertaining and competitive than the Packers over the same time period. (For alternative salary structure comparison)
  5. When the Packers sign roster depth players with upside do we hammer them? Have the Brewers, in aggregate, been more competitive than the Packers over the past decade?
  6. I feel like Milwaukee has had more than three first round pitchers who did not pan out 🙂 I really liked Medeiros when he was drafted
  7. I’m glad we don’t have to listen to predictions of how good the Cardinals are expected to be and how Jordan Walker is closer than ever to breaking out.
  8. The Brewers didn’t get much worse and a lot of the Cubs improvement relies on Kyle Tucker. It is conceivable the Brewers get more output or WAR from nearly all offensive positions in 2025 compared to 2024. Advantage: Brewers
  9. Not that this provides much comfort but if given the choice between the Dodgers or ‘the field’ I would take the field in terms of most likely World Series champion in 2025.
  10. On a lighter, happier note, do you have a favorite Bob Uecker commercial ad read? “You’ve got a lot more going for you with Hank… Hardware hank”“
  11. Still only 32 years old, pitching in China
  12. Our 2002 pitching staff was, in aggregate, below replacement level. -0.3 WAR The position players combined for 8.3 WAR., nearly all Sexson and Hernandez. If a replacement level team is expected to win approximately 48 games in a season then the 2002 Brewers performed perfectly by winning 56 games.
  13. Whew, kept Payamps under $3M.
  14. Drew Rasmussen gets two year extension with Rays. When healthy, he has been very good. Rasmussen: 6.7 WAR with TB Feyereisen: 2 WAR with TB (currently free agent after poor 2024 and injuries in 2023) Adames: 14 WAR with MIL (plus a comp pick)
  15. If healthy-ish, the Yelich contract is certainly at or near market value. Maybe even below market value now.
  16. Maybe it’s because he wasn’t a desirable teammate, too?
  17. Would we want to re-up for one more year of Wade Miley? https://www.si.com/mlb/brewers/news-feed/ex-brewers-8-5-million-starter-eyeing-return-to-milwaukee-pat3
  18. Baseball: Byung Hyun Kim (awesome arm angle) Football: Warrick Dunn Basketball: Michael Jordan
  19. Burnes reasonably could have thought he was the best person on the planet at doing his job before entering the arbitration room. It is not common for genuinely top performers in corporate jobs to hear ‘no’ very often.
  20. I thought Burnes generally pitched his heart out in Milwaukee. He received a rude awakening during arbitration. I’m sure we all would be unnerved if our bosses made arguments about how undeserving we are of a specific salary increase.
  21. I wanted to believe the same thing but just saw Burnes has a 2.84 ERA in 19 postseason innings for Milwaukee. Plus, eight innings of 1 ER for Baltimore.
  22. Is Burnes due for an arm/shoulder injury in the next few years? I certainly don’t wish that upon him but he has had many high intensity innings.
  23. If we had $35 million in additional payroll, would we want to give it to Corbin Burnes in his thirties?
  24. Mitchell has .805 career OPS in 322 MLB at-bats. Career OPS+ is 121. That’s not bad and demonstrates some power, to be sure.
