  1. Agreed. I would absolutely take a chance that he's back healthy in early to mid August some time and work out a deal with the Rays for Ramos. Would be a huge upgrade at the catcher position, and because of the injury I can't imagine we'd have to give up that much in a trade.
  2. I'm really torn on this whole MM situation and what Stearns should do here. Last July, we saw Theo get really aggressive out of the break and went out and picked up Quintana (the best SP on the market with years of control left). It was reported that the Brewers were very interested in Q, but Theo made the big offer (and probably overpaid) to get him during the break. That move seemed to give the underperforming Cubs all the juice they needed to go on that 2nd half run that they went on to win the division, and I think they made up the 5.5 game deficit in what seemed like two weeks. With this still in Stearn's mind, you'd think that he'd want to make the aggressive move this July by getting the best guy out there in MM, at a position of huge need. However, we're also talking about a guy that we'll only have for 2+ months - not a guy like Q who you'd control for a few years. We know Stearns likes controllable assets, and probably doesn't feel like he can gut the farm system for a rental player. The other question you have to ask: are the Brewers only a MM away from having a championship team? Seems like we might need a SP, perhaps another RP and probably even another bat - even if we got Machado. I'd love to see Stearns be aggressive and go get us MM, but I also understand how difficult it would be to see us give up a guy like Burnes for a 2+ rental, if there's no guarantee that MM will even be that guy that now makes us a championship caliber team.
  3. If/when we miss out on Machado, how quickly will the other teams start to move on their players? I'd love to make a move with the Twins for Escobar/Dozier, but I'm wondering how quickly the Twins would be willing to move those guys? And, I'm worried about this early stretch after the AS break with the Dodgers and Nationals coming to town. We know LA is starting to play more like everyone expected (and just imagine if MM suits up in a Dodgers uniform this weekend at Miller Park). If we miss out on MM, we really need to get working on another deal asap. We should have Braun back on Friday, but Thames/Villar will miss at least that first LA series and who knows about Pina. I just hope DS gets aggressive here, because aren't going to have the ability to ease into the 2nd half here.
  4. Well, this might be a good thing if we don't get MM. If we can instead go out and get Escobar from the Twins AND either Asdrubal Cabrera or Brian Dozier without having to give up Burnes, Hiura, or Peralta - then I would consider that a much better overall upgrade for our team these final two months. And, we'd still have our top 3 prospects still in the system.
  5. Agree with you 100% on this. If we hear that the Brewers are about to strike a deal with the Royals for Whit, then I will take that as a sign that Hiura is about to be packaged in a deal for a TOR starter. Unless of course if Hiura is in the deal to acquire Whit, but I would certainly hope that DS is smart enough to not give him up in a deal for Whit.
  6. I know the O's have been notorious for making head scratching moves, but I'd have a real hard time believing that they won't just trade Machado for the very best offer that they have on the table. I doubt they insist that he gets traded to an NL team just to ensure that they don't have to play against him these final two months in a completely lost season for them. Like others have said, he'll be a FA this winter and could very easily land with an AL team then as well. I'd agree too that this most likely won't go down until after the AS game. Now, that we are just a few days away from the break, it would seem likely that they'll hold onto him until after the game and then try to trade him right afterwards. I'd have to wonder if the O's are getting the best offers from teams right now, so that they can make their final decision around that time. But then again, it's the O's - so who really knows what they are doing?

  8. Yeah, this definitely seems like a GM "leak" to try to get one of these three teams (or perhaps another team on the outside) to up their offer and get the deal done. It's going to be interesting to see who blinks first here and eventually caves? And how quickly do the O's pull the trigger on their best offer? As has been stated numerous times, MM's value goes down a notch with every game that he plays for the O's this month, as that is one less game that the trading team has with him. You'd think they'd want to get this figured out asap and ask for every teams very best offer by the end of this weekend (if not earlier).
  9. At this stage, I think I'd even take some "made up BS" by either Jim Bowden or HH19! Even if there was zero truth to the rumors, at least it would give us something new to talk about today. Ha.
  10. It sounds like you are having the same issues that I'm having. I keep hopping on Twitter hoping for something new, and become instantly disappointed when there is nothing there! Then, I try to remind myself that it is only July 12 and we still have two and a half weeks until the trade deadline. Man, this might be the longest 2+ weeks ever!
  11. Yeah, I'm just not sure if we'd even have enough to offer the Mets as far as high end talent for either deGrom or Syndergaard. Any deal though would have to start with Hiura AND Burnes - and then you'd have to add in at least two other really good prospects (names like Ray, Lutz, Diplan, Z Brown, Medeiros, etc.)
  12. Yeah, once we got past Aguilar in the lineup last night, it was like going into the deep, dark abyss. Just one big black hole in our lineup, and I had zero confidence that any of them were going to come through with a hit. If Manny is a longshot (or if the asking price is just too much), let's move onto some of the other middle infield targets - and try to get two of them. If we can get Whit from the Royals and Escobar from the Twins, I think I'd be very happy with that haul. Although, Merrifield really only makes sense if you plan to move Hiura for a TOR arm - which I still think is a big need as well before the deadline (just not sure if there's really one out there that's available?).

  14. He's claiming he got this information from his "Stanton" guy, and not his "Ellsbury" guy. Yeah, not sure how much I'm believing this guy has sources with the Yankees. I mean, how do you have one guy that is a good source and another guy that is a bad source. I'm going to guess he's the Yankees version of HH19 (and boy, do I miss the HH19 craziness from this winter!). Just imagine how much fun we'd be having right now if HH19 was throwing out his fake rumors right now.
  15. Where again would the Yankees play Manny? Andujar is at 3B, Didi at SS and Torres at 2B, right? Are they bringing Didi off the bench then, or just finding a way to rotate guys into the DH spot? Just seems like the Yankees would have other needs before picking up another SS, but maybe I'm missing something. If they do agree to throw Sheffield into the deal, then it probably becomes a no brainer as I'm sure that would be the best offer on the table for the O's.
  16. Does Bowden have any sources whatsoever? You'd think that former GM would have sources and thus would be somewhat reliable with the "rumors" that he throws out there. Appears that he literally does what all of us do here on this board and just speculate on stuff - as if he knows what he's actually talking about, and then put a "not confirmed" at the very bottom to cover his a$$ when someone calls him out on it.
  17. Well that's .... something. Of course, "discussed" could mean: Arnold: "Hey David, the Orioles asked for Burnes, Broxton and Arcia for Machado." Stearns: "Where did you hide the camera? I'm on one of those Punk'd shows, right?" Arnold: "No, that's really what they are asking for." Stearns: "Well, ok then. Let's do it." Then Scooby and the gang run in, and pull off the Stearns mask to reveal ... Dave Stewart! Stewart: "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!" I mean, this has to be a joke right? There is no way Stearns is dumb enough to give up a package like that for a 2 month rental in Machado. I could see the O's asking the Brewers for that package of players, but there's no way that "discussion" would have gone anywhere once it was proposed. Try again Bowden.
  18. Maybe this has been brought up somewhere in the first 44 pages of this thread, but do we think the O's would have any interest in a Woodruff & Santana package for Machado? They'd get two young, controllable guys that they could immediately plug into their lineup at the big league level in this scenario. Again - this seems like a lot to have to give up for a 2 month rental, but this type of package would allow us to keep all of our top prospects - and it appears that both Woody and Santana are blocked right now at the big league level. I'd be willing to replace Woodruff with Ortiz if they'd want to go that route, but this seems like a pretty good offer for the O's to consider. Thoughts?
  19. Nope. I’m right there with you. It would be doing the opposite of what I thought we were doing as an organization. I really was pumped to think we were headed in a different direction. A move like that makes me think Stearns will try to parlay this job into a larger market one. Agreed. If you trade Arcia, after Machado walks, you are left with Dubon coming off a torn ACL, Saladino who has been fine, but doesn't come near profiling as anything more than average, and Miller, who would probably hit enough, but has defensive issues. I guess Villar could be moved back to SS, but I would imagine there is a reason he hasn't logged any time there since 2016. If Machado is acquired, I think it would be with the understanding that Arcia would be back up as the main SS next year, hopefully after finding some plate discipline in AAA. I agree. I can't see any logical reason why we would trade Arcia for Machado. We still need Arcia to find his hitting stroke down in AAA, so he can come back up eventually (whether it is this year or next year) and continue to be our SS for the next 4-5 years. We all know that Machado would just be a 2-3 month rental and then he'll be on his way to a big market team, so we need to keep Arcia on the roster.
  20. The guy is putting up numbers he has never even come close to approaching before, in his walk year, at 34 years old. He's fine I guess, but Jed Lowrie is never going to be a player an opposing team pitches around. I don't think he is enough of an upgrade from Miller or Saladino to bother. Fair enough. Machado is clearly an impact bat that you'd put right in the #3 spot in your lineup each night without hesitation, and I realize that Lowrie is more of solid (but not elite) veteran bat. Both are 3 month rentals though, so I don't think age really factors into this discussion. I guess I'm looking for a creative way to still improve the offense this year at a position of need, without giving up a ton of prospect value for a guy that you are only going to have 3 months. Don't get me wrong - the thought of adding MM to our lineup gets me really excited, but I wonder if our higher end prospects wouldn't be better used to go after a guy that we'd have control over for a couple more years - but also someone that could make an enormous impact on this playoff run here in '18 (Realmuto, deGrom, Syndergaard, etc.).
  21. I'm still not convinced that the better SS rental play may not be Jed Lowrie? He should cost 1/2 of whatever it would take to get Machado, and Lowrie is a switch hitter that can also play some 2B. I have no idea how he compares to Machado defensively at SS, and it doesn't look like Lowrie has even played a game at SS yet this year. Then, with the prospects you save getting Lowrie, you could then go out and go big on either a controllable TOR starter like deGrom or Sydergaard (and yes, I know the Mets said they aren't trading them, but you could always make them an offer that they can't refuse) or you could go hard after Realmuto. I know Lowrie doesn't make the type of "splash" impact that a deal for Machado would make, but I'm just having a hard time seeing MM as the type of guy Stearns would be attracted to. Not to say that he isn't OK going after a rental, but I can't see him wanting to give up a bunch of the top prospects for a guy they'd only have for 3 months. Thoughts?

  23. This. This (x1,000)! I was born in '78, so I was only four when the Brewers made their WS run in '82 and don't remember any of it (outside of video I've seen over the years). Two of my most emotional moments as a Brewer fan (and honestly, as a sports fan period) was the final day of 2009 and then T-Plush walking off the Dbacks in '11 to secure our spot in the NLCS. I still get goosebumps when I see videos of both of those moments.
  24. I'm guessing 99% of us would still make that trade if given the opportunity to do it all over again. Like others have already said - we were going for our first postseason birth in 26 years that year. And while we would have all loved to have gone deeper in that postseason, the joy of making it in on the very last day of the season is a moment that I hopefully won't soon forget. And, I too believe that Brewers team would have had a legit shot at going much deeper had Sheets not had the injury that ended his season. Heck, we had to pitch Yovani in game 1 of that Phillies series, after he hadn't started a game since early in the season due to the knee injury at Wrigley. Then, CC had just run out of gas by the postseason and didn't have much left to give in game #2. Again, I'd do that deal again and again if given the chance. There's a radio host on MLB radio that always says "Prospects are cool, but parades are cooler," and while I am guilty of falling in love with our prospects as much as anyone, I think this is a good mantra to live by. No, maybe we didn't get to put on a WS parade in 2009, but we did get to experience a postseason berth for the first time over a 1/4 of a century, and that was worth it to me.
  25. I want to say that someone posted in another thread that both were working their way back from some type of injury - but I can't recall if any other information was given on any specific timelines on when we might see them this summer?
