  1. This organization sucks. We'll have an eternal curse, might as well sell the team and let them move to Seattle.
  2. The value placed on cost-controlled proven pitching is very, very high. It is what it is. Not guys that do this the last 3 years. No chance we're giving up 3 guys including Santana for him. Maybe Aguilar and Broxton. Good grief. 4.19 ERA 4.26 ERA 4.55 ERA His peripherals are ticking up though, looks to me like a late bloomer. K's through the roof last year, ERA+ steadily increasing, FIP declining, BB's down. This seems like a Stearns buy low to me considering he has had the past pedigree of ace stuff.
  3. I still have my T-Shirt of the Bleacher Creatures from the late 80's with Dickie V. It has him talking to Steve Yoder about how the Badgers will actually make the Big Dance -- and he doesn't mean the NIT... Back then, it was an accomplishment when they made the NIT. That said, the poor play and lack of talent on this team has caused me to spend my time doing things that are more productive. You know, like washing out my water pik... It's not even the missing that's depressing, I know it happens to everyone not named Duke, UNC, or UK. It's how it looked as it's happening.
  4. Somebody actually wanted Susac? Most surprising move yet.
  5. Arguably the best team in Brewers history had Yuni B at SS, Casey McGehee at 3rd (until we traded for Hairston), and Mark Kotsay as our 4th OF. I'm not a Villar fan, but also don't want to empty out the farm. Not every single position on the field needs to be a star to contend. I don't see a need to pay a #8 hitter 8-10 million dollars when he has the upside of a leadoff man WHEN playing great.
  6. Absolutely not for Merrifield IMO. Roll with Villar and hope he reverts towards 2016
  7. I'm 29 and I don't remember a time in my life that the Badgers haven't been in the NCAA tournament. It must have really been a LONG time ago, maybe 98 like above poster said? I can't express the disappointment and disinterest I have for March Madness this year. Well wait...maybe it compares to the Packers dumpsterfire that went on, but that's for a different day. I even thought i'd turn Marquette on for the first time in years last night only to see them get wasted by Butler. No hope there either. This is absolutely pathetic and regardless if it's a "rebuild" year or not I think somebody needs to be held accountable for this. They aren't even competitive in games and are losing to cellar dwellers on a regular basis. Just so disappointed in Gard and the whole basketball organization.
  8. I like the Salazar move, but hate the Odorizzi (or swap). I don't think both Salazar and Odorizzi is going to take us to where we want to go, it's just two decent pitchers. Also Odorizzi is not controlled though this supposed 4-5 year window we're entering. I would rather pay up for somebody else with better prospects. And keep Bickford btw
  9. It must be pretty dang good because IMO there is no chance McCarthy doesn't get canned otherwise when everybody else goes.
  10. There's the true question. Nearly everyone saying that Archer isn't an ace (arguable) or even a TOR starter (less arguable) has yet to come up with a pitcher that the team can feasible acquire that is a bonafide ace. Not "ace potential", these posters seem to want a bonafide, ready-made ace. My argument would be that there are absolutely none available, and Archer is the closest you are going to get to one. Does that mean the team should give up a haul and "settle"? That's the argument. Is Archer going to provide enough of an upgrade over a guy like Woodruff? Does he match up better than Chase Anderson in an NLCS against Kershaw? I'd answer both those questions with an affirmative yes. Because not only does he slot in at the top of the rotation, he kicks your other quality pitchers – Anderson, Davies, Chacin and eventually Nelson – down a notch, giving them better matchups. The funny part is if Archer was a FA today he would be getting every single dime of what Arrieta is getting and probably more. Also would probably be getting as much as Darvish.
  11. Prospect hugging...brewerfan members are experts at it. Crazy how some see the value of having good, young players making next to nothing for multiple years. It is crazy. Short of obtaining an in his prime Miguel Cabrera or Clayton Kershaw it's never a good deal to trade them. I don't want us to give our lives away but if it's within reason I am dealing either Burnes or Woodruff for Archer. The Brewers have an atrocious record of developing pitching throughout the franchise's history and while I'd like to think Stearns and company will turn that track record around, i'd err on the side of caution.

  13. This stuck out to me. If the Brewers acquire Arrieta and Archer, the rotation then is Arrieta, Archer, Anderson, Davies, Chacin with Nelson coming. Who is missing? I doubt the Brewers signed Chacin to be in the bullpen which would mean Woodruff would be on the move. Nelson returns and then Chacin to the pen perhaps, but I imagine the Brewers are looking at moving Woodruff given HH19's latest information. Davies could also go if Stearns preferred Woodruff.
  14. Did you really just use 2011 and 2012 stats to draw a case on 2017-2018 Eric Thames? Come on, he hadn't played in MLB in 5 years and theoretically "found himself" overseas. Regardless if 2017 was outside the mean 2011-12 have zero impact on future performance IMO.
  15. Maybe Attanasio has decided he wants to boost payroll higher than traditional levels if the right scenario presented itself? The guy is probably swimming in money at this point in his life. Who knows what's going on behind closed doors.
  16. I'm sorry but you can't bench Domingo Santana or a (healthy) Braun. I don't care how his defense is, it'd be absolute lunacy to leave that bat on the bench. Heck, you can argue we could do better, but Eric Thames has no business being benched either. That leaves us Broxton, Aguilar, and/or Phillips since we can't get rid of Braun that need to go. I see no point in leaving Phillips in the minors. Domingo has to go, and Aguilar/Broxton could go as well. Then you can split Braun/Phillips in RF on days off or if Braun is hurt/tired...or Braun/Thames at 1B depending on matchups. Braun is an everyday player when healthy and there's just no ifs ands or buts about it.
  17. I'm not opposed to trading Shaw for the right deal, but he absolutely can be part of the future. Cheap as **** and his contract window fits right in with Cain, Yelich, etc.
  18. Absolutely baffling that when you have a chance to add a guy we HOPE Corbin Burnes or Woodruff could be for 4 years cheap as **** nobody thinks its a great deal. Sorry but I will take the guaranteed talent every time thanks. Cheap doesn’t matter that much as posted above. He’s the final piece most likely. Put yourself in the position of someone that realistically thinks the team might not be better than the Cubs the next 2 years even with Archer. Then consider basically 70% of the players expected to come up and help the team or maybe be trade chips for 2020-2026 are gone. I’m not renouncing fandom if they deal for Archer. I’ll enjoy it and hope everything works out. I just see a lot more downside than some do that are penciling in every optimistic projection for the Brewers in these trades. So you're waiting for a theoretical window like 5 years down the road that the big spending Cubs might suck to push. Well what if the Cardinals, a traditionally great organization are then the team to beat? Or god forbid the Reds or Pirates? What about the always good Dodgers and whomever else? We can't play the merry go round for eternity, sooner or later you have to play with the big boys and beat them on the field.

  20. Won't be any young, cheap talent left if we continue to trade the farm away... We already have some. The Ernestos / Felicianos / Lemons / Rodriguez's of the world are the beginnings of the theoretical "next wave." Sure they are incredibly far away and some will flame out, but the 21-23 year olds like Gatewood and Ray are tradeable if we operate in a 5 year window with our current big leaguers. We aren't even close to "selling the farm" after one trade.
  21. The longer this goes on the more I think Stearns is working a trade for Archer (or somebody else like him) for guys WITHOUT Santana. Yes, that probably means giving up one/two of our pitchers, but honestly I think I am starting to prefer that over Santana going out. Why sell a cog in a beastly looking lineup if you don't have to? Sell high on all of these guys (Harrison, Gatewood, Brinson, etc) right now for controllable talent and spend the next 3-4 years grooming a new wave. When this wave of Yelich/Cain/Santana/Archer etc get old and/or expensive then we'll have new young cheap talent to bring in soon after. Makes complete sense to me on paper but they HAVE to hit on their draft picks. Miss and we're busted. Save the one or two arms you like most be it Burnes, Ortiz, Bickford, Woodruff, whoever, and sell the rest right now for the 4-5 year window.
  22. I'm fairly surprised there isn't anybody in here saying it cost too much (lol). What a fantastic signing for the $.
  23. This has to be a joke. It's a real pathetic attempt at one if that.
  24. What has Woodruff done at the MLB level to warrant such lofty status? Oh that 5 ERA in only 40 innings and got progressively worse with each start once teams had some tape on him? Are you talking about Gallardo's ERA of almost 6 last season, or his much lower 5.4 ERA of 2016? I'm not all aboard the Corbin train unless its cheap but its asinine to compare these guys to him. He's a decent middle of the road rotation arm on a short contract, not one of the worst starters in baseball or a completely unproven pitcher at the MLB level.
  25. Honestly? I wouldn't take him unless he was nearly free. I have nightmares just thinking about taking on a 34 year old pitcher with that kind of contract and mileage.
