  1. Mlbtraderumors is reporting the Nightengale story too. Says the two teams have met and are talking trade for Braun. The Giants system doesn't have the right pieces so it would have to be quantity starting with Beede and Bickford and the Brewers not paying much if anything on his deal. Arroyo I'm not sure fits the team now. It's one of the few positions of depth in Villar and Arcia.
  2. I guess I read the article differently. Looks like there are several teams that want him and have the ability to pay for him I think the Red Sox can throw out an impressive package.
  3. That's the point. Between Phillips and Ray's questionable CF tool, we drafted a corner OF without plus power. As we did last year in Clark. Both Clark and Ray can apparently hit so that's a good thing but the power in the farm system is virtually non existent. I just glanced the stats but I don't think we have a single player on the farm with 10 home runs. That is a bit alarming.
  4. I do think Ray will play in the majors someday. I just don't think he has star written on him. He is unlikely to stay in CF which means he will be a corner OF who can hit and steal bases but won't have power. Given the Clark pick this is somewhat redundant. There's nothing wrong with that but that means the Brewers need to find power elsewhere. That's part of the issue. Our power guys on the farm really aren't hitting for power, or much at all. Not a bust pick by any means, but not the next Braun and Fielder either which is what you want if you are paying slot at 5.
  5. One positive about the Ray pick is the Brewer farm bats really have been disappointing in general. Maybe they see a huge need there? Or perhaps it's the Cubs model of taking the most advance bat, then trading for pitching down the road?
  6. It won't be all that intriguing because we need to stay in slot due to picking Ray.
  7. The super usually over optimistic MLB crew compared him to Ray Lankford. Zzzzzzzzzzz And you guys are right, he won't be under slot. Low ceiling but safe guy who apparently cant play CF. I guess if this a bad draft then that's what you get a 5. Still not very exciting paying slot for a meh corner OF.
  8. Let's hope this is a severe underslot otherwise a really uninspired pick.
  9. The mocks seem to have us dialed in with Ray at 5. Interestingly I am seeing Groome fall into the late teens plus. He must really be a Lawrie?
  10. I think teams know what the Brewers are. Luc, Braun, and Villar have carried the team and 2 of those 3 are on the block. Luc has multiple teams wanting him so the price wont be affected with a will they or wont they sell mode.
  11. Is this a quantity or quality pick at 5? Quantity where you go underslot and make it up in the later picks or quality where go for a Groome/Puk and build from there? The question really is how does the Brewers FO view the farm right now? I would have to imagine they cant be as happy today as we all thought they would be when the season started.
  12. If they trade him now, and I have no idea why they would, he wouldnt be worth slightly more than a Cy Sneed. If he performs like this the rest of the season, they could land quite a bit. SS who put up his numbers earn 9 digit extensions.
  13. I have and I love it. The SB is an underused weapon in the days of analytics. Id take a Whitey Herzog Brewers team right now. On an interesting note, the Brewer offense ranks mediocre to horrible in every category but SB's (first in the NL) and Walks (2nd in the NL).
  14. At his current contract, he is the most valuable catcher in baseball. Most of the time, trades on most fan boards look like pipe dreams. Except here. If a team needs a catcher, there isn't a prospect in their system other than maybe a top 5 in all of baseball talent, the Brewers couldn't get for a year and a half of control of Lucroy.
  15. I can see the Brewers adding Puig as a salary offset in a Braun deal and possible flip candidate down the road. He wouldn't be a net positive in any trade Id ever make, and I'd assume the Brewers would feel the same way. Either way, the Dodger's OF situation is a mess with a bunch of big names and very little actual production on a team than desperately needs offense.
  16. Id take him too, but the reality is he isn't a very good player at this point. For a red hot Braun, Id want a lot more.
  17. Still doesn't change the fact they have Puig, Thompson, and Pederson(plus Either soon). There is nowhere to put Braun. Those three main guys aren't going anywhere. At least not yet. Braun may be better(when healthy), but it wouldn't be a big upgrade. They need to upgrade a position they are getting nothing from not a position they are already getting production. A third baseman would be ideal and if it wasn't Chase Utley maybe second base. Everywhere else already has a player well entrenched and not going to be moved. Trading for Braun would be a waste of resources and I do not believe the Dodgers want to add that kind of money. Their new GM is much smarter. Only way it would work is if it were a three team deal and someone was taking Yasiel Puig away from the Dodgers. That is very far fetched though. I think you should take a look at Pederson's stats. The guy has been brutal since his good April/May of last year. He is helpless against leftys. Puig is turning into a league joke on and off the field. Thompson has been fantastic but thats about it for their OF. I have no idea if the Dodgers and Brewers will make such a trade as you are right, it would get complex, but they do need a bat like Braun's or they will look at another year of wasting Kershaw.
  18. Pederson is following that Segura trajectory of one good few months followed by not much. For example, in his last 365 days, he is hitting .195. Id take him of course but depending on the rest of the package and if money was included from our side, Id like to see more as a headliner in such a blockbuster.
  19. The same team that just released an outfielder for $35mil? I doubt they want to invest millions in a new aging injury prone outfielder. Not to mention they have Thompson, Puig, and Pederson. No room for Braun. Braun's better than all 3 and Im hardly a Braun fan. LA dumping Crawford was due to his 464 ops, not because they are loaded with OF talent. I think they are pretty sick of Puig and he might be one of they guys they dump to pick up a real OFer that is less insane. Seager and Thompson are their only two guys OPSing more than 800, they need offense.
  20. I used to love the All Star game as a kid. Interleague play and unrealistic voting has ruined the game for me.
  21. There arent a whole lot of teams in the league that couldnt find a place for a healthy Braun. Id still say the Dodgers are the best fit for all involved though.
  22. It was a low risk trade for the WS, not much to get worked about one way or another. He is a solid 3/4 starter and they didnt give up much. San Diego signed a pitcher they ultimately didn't need and had some buyers remorse. Time to move on and pay the stupid tax in the form of taking on some salary.
  23. Seems like a solid low risk move by Chicago and a little salary relief for SD.
  24. While the contract might be in the ball park of fair market value (though tough to gauge factoring in age, injury, length of deal, etc), I can't recall too many recent mid season trades where a team has traded off a long term contract and not picked up some money or a bad contract. Im still thinking the Tulo model is our best bet. We take on half of Brauns deal in some capacity and pick up solid package of prospects.
