  1. 13 games into the season and they're on pace for 100 wins. In spite of a few clunkers from ace starters and the O not doing great.
  2. Probably hit both and it's impossible to see in replay. Whichever way it was called was probably going to stand. Tough break but with Hader it shouldn't matter.
  3. Generally true and of course it's impossible to tell someone to 'chase more'. But, there is a level of being aggressive that seems to be gone the last few years. To me some of the most frustrating parts of watching the last couple years is it seems he predetermines not to swing at so many pitches. He just stands there bat on the shoulder with no movement as a pitch cruises down he middle for a strike. Then, he's stuck with 2 strikes and often swings at a curve off the plate to SO. So while yes of course you can't tell someone to chase, there is level of being aggressive to try and do damage that seems lacking. This kind of goes back to the Joey Votto debate of years and years a bit. Either way, after the rough weekend hopefully last night was a step in the right direction.
  4. 250/350 BA/OBP vs lefties. Seems like a good pick up to me. Anyone know on options he or Severino have left in regards to keeping both later on?
  5. Well the big drop off on OBP I was estimating was correcnt at least. But yea it seems he did at least hit better at the end, which I guess kind of lines up with memory a bit as I'm recalling a good run there kind of when everyone started doing well for the team. But then he crashed right at the end, along with everyone else.
  6. Someone can dig up the stats. But I'd guess those numbers are a bit inflated by all the walks and higher OBP early in the season when pitchers still thought he was the old Yelich. Guessing the last month or so once everyone knew he had no power showed some worse numbers. Hoping for the best or at least to be a near all star level type but from so far it still doesn't look good
  7. I generally believe the story. But I've long been one who thinks they've overdone it with the test procedures. As someone just said, as long as Omar doesn't get hurt this is only 20-25 games. I'm fairly confident Stearns will find a RH C with decent splits vs lefties to fill in. Now if Omar gets hurt then it's a much bigger blow, as Severino can at least pass for a low end starting C in MLB.
  8. I saw Sheets make a joke one time on a national morning show, probably on ESPN since it was so long ago where they were busting his chops about hitting and he got all defensive and his point was that he has a "multi year hit streak going" so they need to lay off. Not sure what he's up to these days but I thought he could make a good commenter radio/tv type person, seemed to have a good personality for it. But yea for me it will always be Woodruff of Kershaw
  9. To me the biggest cliche from Rock is the constant talk about going the other way as a hitter. Obviously I get the overall point/reason and I agree with it, but its overstated to the point that you'd think nothing good ever comes from pulling the ball. But we're spoiled with announcers and that's nitpicking. You're going to have that after 20 years with the same person. If anyone had the Brewers/SD game on last week with the SD announcers (best of my knowledge they seemed like their regulars) it should make you appreciate what we have here.
  10. Not sure best spot for this, but have MLB on and they're doing some Don Mattingly segment. After they get into HOF and basically acting like it's a travesty and no way he shouldn't be in. I get the point that at his peak he was one of the best in league, MVP level etc. But I looked up his stats and he just shouldn't be in, Just over 2K hits, only 220 HRs. No WS titles. He essentially had a 4-5 year window where he was top notch and that was it. Its unfortunate as his injuries are probably what held him back from getting to that level but unfortunately that's the way it goes. If he was on any other team besides NYY, or probably Bos, I don't think it would be a discussion.
  11. Obviously good results so far which is better than having the opposite happen. But, my amateur eye test as a hitting coach still looks like his upper cut finish is still there and too pronounced. Hope for the best of course but I'm still a bit skeptical.
  12. Sure this seems lucky and all due to the banks. But, they were consistently ahead the entire game. They also got super unlucky that 90% ft shooter missed or none of it would've been needed. Plus, the fact they were somehow not in double bonus at that point. Quite the ride this year. Probably my favorite or most fun title in this Bo/Gard era. Would be between this one or the original Kirk Penny one in like 03 where they came out of nowhere too
  13. Gotcha. Yea my question was more to say I think the workers/labor should be being paid more if it costs that much. I wasn't saying they were overpaid, I was going at it from a whether some corp/owner is making a fortune while they underpay the caregivers type view. Maybe they're making a bit more than I realize, especially if they get legit benefits. But having friends who work in this space constantly saying how little they make combined with the other end complaining how much they're paying made me wondering there's some kind of disconnect/crook/cost I'm not aware of, etc.
  14. No kids here. But as friends have talked about this and I hear those numbers and the costs, one thing that has popped in my head is where is all that money going? Because on the other hand you hear how underpaid the workers/teachers/etc are at those daycare type places. You do the math on number of kids X cost per months and it's a heck of a number Are building costs, insurance just huge for them? Is some conglomerate owner hoarding the money like in most businesses?
  15. Numbers like that just seem impossible to get to and to field a team, and makes his top priority of keeping Adams brutally tough. IDK, for a guy who try to play everybody love everybody feel good mantra similar to his thankfulness post the other day you'd think he'd be flexible to help everyone else get paid too. Plus, he has to know how much one more SB would mean for his legacy/rep and all that after the chokejob this year. In his mind I'm sure he feels he's the best to ever play but doesn't get the credit due to only one SB, if he got one or two more it would change everything. But, after what they did showing they'd be willing to move on from him I get it if he wants to get as much money locked in. Really can't blame him, he's that good, has to take the pressure/heat, risking his body at an older age, etc. He's made a ton of money from State Farm but he doesn't have a 100 million wife like Brady had that made it so easy to take 20-25 mil to field loaded teams.
  16. I think its overlooked by many who take the "gard put his hands on him so he started it and/or is to blame". Reality was it was started by Howard insulting and cursing at him. Plus of course by him leaving his starters in to full court and picking on Higginbottom on national TV.
  17. In theory, good Cruz would be a great perfect get, proven RH power bat. But, I think the reality is whoever the primary DH is going to be will have to at least be able to play some in the field due to needing to rotate Cain/Yeli into days off. Plus, Cruz very well might have hit the wall last year. Heck, with how injury prone Yeli has become and how bad he's gotten on D it really wouldn't be the stupidest thing to plan him as primary DH. Especially if they think a big reason for his tail off the last two years has been the knee/back injuries.
  18. have NFL espn show on background not paying much attention. They're going on and on about Kirk Cousins, basically saying how bad he is, the contract means they'll be forced to have another year with, they have to stomach it, etc. Meanwhile, his stats are on the bottom of the screen with the 4400 yds 33 TD and only 7 INTs.
  19. Yea it hasn't in the past but things have flipped recently. AFC used to be NE and one competition, while the NFC was 5ish teams deep most years. its reversed now, or at least is in theory next year. Assuming TB fall off, Saints are gone, SF goes to a rookie qb, Rams get hit by cap as much as GB and possibly Donald retiring. Still, can't choke like they did this year but odds are way better in the NFC, especially NFC North as you're a near lock to win the division. I think NFC North also plays some easy divisions to rack up wins. The two seemingly best alternatives are Den and SF. Denver makes sense but have same division as KC to deal with. SF actually makes most sense from a winning perspective, but he has the issue of how he's talked trash on them for 20 years since they passed on him and they were the team to beat him this year, well several times in the playoffs now. IDK, maybe a darkhorse with the Murray drama the last few days could be AZ?
  20. Yea Davis and Davison shooting like garbage so this is a close game. Rutgers is better than their record, not sure if they had injuries or something but with Harper and Baker somehow still there they're better than their record shows. I guess as evidence by two recent Ws vs MSU and OSU. Need the Davis-ons to just make a couple here late and get out of here with a win
  21. For years I'd done the call Spectrum and get price down move and they always did it to some degree, but it still crept up every time. About 2.5 years ago I was going to be gone for a few months so had an opportunity to actually cancel since I wouldn't need cable/internet. Shockingly, they didn't fight at all, didn't offer anything to reduce, etc. So I cancelled and haven't looked back. I can't believe this is how they run their business.
  22. Outside of Duke and Kentucky, who is even churning through brand new squads like that? Seems like transfer are the new fad though with the COVID instant transfers that were allowed. Your last line is what I was talking about. That is happening a lot all over CBB and seems no end in site for it. Relative to UW. When many made a big fuss on the UW players who went in the portal this offseason, it seemed like a big deal because it's rare for UW. Reality is if you pay closer attention to CBB that has been happening a ton for a few years now. Lots of guys transferring because it's easy combined with lots of guys 'going pro' just to go play overseas leading to massive turnover each year for teams. Think of how Marquette has operated for awhile, relative to UW on this topic. There's been a big reduction in 'program building' in the traditional way. Many teams are basically putting together new teams each year. I also mean up and down CBB, I don't necessarily mean specifically the top big conf teams.
  23. Yea Houston would be a team I could see NFL pressuring to hire him to ty and help them manage this fall out. They just fired a minority coach after 1 year in which he had no QB and a terrible roster after years of mismanagement before him. I know they only won 4 games but I seem to remember them staying close in several games they shouldn't have had a chance. Of course I have no idea on the locker room, behind the scenes, etc but from the outside it seems that coach was not really given a fair chance. Unless Watson is allowed to play though I'm not sure I'd want this job if I was him in his current situation. Something else a NE fan friend threw out today would be BB hiring Flores back as an assistant. BB helps keep him out of the ridiculous media frenzy this could all lead to. Then in a year or two when things settle down he gets a HC job or gets that job when BB retires since McDaniels is gone now.
  24. Why does everyone keep saying this like it is a cold fact? What if they immediately suck and pick a QB in the top 5? If there's one certainty in the NFL it's that you can go from dreadful to good in record time. Well I had an "if" in there and it seems to me QBs not panning out is more likely than not. That's not saying anything is a cold fact. You're 100% right though if the QB hits you can turn it very quickly, like Rodg, Burrow, Luck, Manning, and others. So to not be bad for a while we'd have two swings at it in Love (hopefully he hits), if he flops you'll have another top 10 pick QB in soon. Who again is, IDK 30-40%? chance of being good. Nothing is a lock one way or the other. But there is a high % chance of neither of those two being 'the guy'. Add the two rolls of the dice together though and you're probably solidly above 50% though at least, which isn't bad. Keep Rodgers and you're a SB top 5 team in the league for at least a couple more years before going through this process. A big factor on how hard or how much they bend over to kiss ARods behind is their internal view on Love at this point. If they're really confident you probably cash out Rodgs/Adams and reset. This is what they were in Rodgers so they were comfortable telling Brett enough is enough with his BS. Took Thompson/MM big guts to put their whole career on the line with that decision and they were right. If they're looking at Love and thinking he's still a big question mark and likely to fail, you have to do all you can to keep the team together as best you can. Keep punting the cap down the road and deal with it later not unlike what NE just did to eat a bad year to fix the cap and draft a QB.
  25. The key to all of that is the QB has to hit and be legit, like Rodgers did or Burrow for the most recent post. It's obviously a lot higher chance of that not happening, at which point you can be in perpetual rebuild mode like almost all other teams have gone through. If Love flops, you're likely looking at minimum 3-5 years of being bad with no guarantee of when you'll be SB level again. With this spoiled fanbase (especially those 35ish and under) it's gonna be painful to listen to.
