  1. It's pretty clear to me what he's saying. Let me translate:. If we are in position to win this year and there are moves that will improve our chances then we will make them but not at the expense of sacrificing any players in our system that we have identified as future parts of our core. I think both the owner and GM are in total agreement with that strategy. I agree 100%. Seems that Stearns is saying that if he can make minor moves that do not destory the farm he will. However, he is not going to abort the rebuild or sacrifice the farm for one shot in 2017.
  2. MLBtraderumors.com posted the following about Stearns approach: Brewers GM David Stearns talked about his team’s promising start and what it might (or might not) mean for his deadline planning, as Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes. Stearns is undeniably pleased with the fact that his club sits atop the NL Central standings, and didn’t shy away from the possibility that the wins could continue to come sooner than had been anticipated. But he also suggested that the imperative of sustainable building would largely remain the same. “The plan is to consistently win major league games over a period of years,” he said. “If that process begins a little bit sooner than people expected, that’s great. And we’ll react accordingly. But it doesn’t change our strategy; it doesn’t change our plan.” https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/05/central-notes-zambrano-brewers-robert-gose.html I find it refreshing to say the least. Doesn't sound like Stearns is going to make any dumb knee jerk trades. The plan is success over the long haul and not just a 2 or 3 year window.
  3. I was going to say the same thing . Their bullpen is decimated, convenient that they found a way to turn somewhat mild weather into a day off for their pen. One of those things that makes you scratch your head, right Bosio? I'm starting to hate the Cubs just as much as the Cardinals.

  5. They aren't moving Villar around anymore, haven't all year IIRC. He's our 2nd baseman. For good or for bad, you are correct. When the Brewers traded Scooter Gennett that was the signal that they were committed to Villar. That said, i'm ecstatic that Villar turned down the extension. I believe Dubon and/or Diaz will be nipping at Villar's heels by this time next year. I'm really really big on Isan Diaz. The guy has great plate discipline. In 2017 he has posted a .357 OBP, has 18 walks and only 41 k's, and has some power with 7 home runs already.
  6. Walking the lead off man in the 9th is a requirement this year.
  7. This Sogard stuff is ridiculous. Talk about being hot. Kudos to Stearns and co. for bringing him up at the right time.
  8. The prior 8 seasons suggest that the past two seasons were the outlier and that he would improve. He's not a 2.43 ERA pitcher, and he's not a 5.63 ERA pitcher. He's a 3.75 ERA pitcher/4.00 xFIP pitcher. I'm also not convinced that there are better options in the minors. Woodruff - likely. Hader - maybe, but not this season (depends on how much CS is affecting him, as he was dominant in AA) as his innings limit will be around 150 so you can forget about him starting in September. Lopez - unlikely (his peripherals are much better than his ERA, but again the question is how many innings he can go as well as making the jump from AA). I agree with you, LouisEly. Woodruff might be ready to go, but I really really don't want to rush him after a whole 6 weeks at the AAA level. Hader screams reliever to me. Lopez IMHO is the closest to ready but he sucked at AAA last year. Ortiz is still at least 1 year away.
  9. still don't think one had to do with the other, i think peralta had another bad outing they had to do something. wonder what the corresponding move will be, im assuming suter is going back down, but who knows? My guess is Suter or Davies (if he pitches poorly today). Davies next scheduled turn after today will be May 24. However, because of the off day on Monday May 22, Espino could pitch May 19 and again on regular rest on May 24.
  10. Well this probably explains the Jhan Marinez DFA. They needed his spot for Espino.
  11. Yep. Need to go trade the farm for some relievers.
  12. Drake in to close it out. This should be fun.
  13. So that begs the question, is something up where they wanted the 40-man spot, or did they just dump Marinez because he has been terrible?
  14. I will be in attendance. Huge opportunity for the Crew against a 14-25 club.
  15. I am of the opinion that Knebel should be the closer. I would dfa Feliz and free up the roster spot/40 man spot.
  16. My patience with Feliz is wearing very thin. 5.17 ERA through 17 games. Only 13 k's in 15 innings. Problems with the long ball. Not good.
  17. 11 K's and 1 walk. Nasty Nasty Stuff. Will be interesting to see him at Carolina.
  18. Thanks for sharing. Good stuff. I am really excited about Woodruff.
  19. Hold tight. May is a brutal month with lots of games against teams expected to contend. We will know a lot more on June 1.
