  1. So the money conscious Rays are going to trade a decently priced starter (cheap for his level of performance, at times) for a reliever who is go to be crazy expensive for a reliever after this year? I don’t know if that really makes sense.
  2. There was a lot of reason to think that, especially with Peralta. Glance at his stats for 2018 he had a 4.40 ERA as a starter, his H/9 was crazy low, and walked a ton of batters. He was also absolutely terrible in the second half of the season. Add in the fact people questioned his ability to be a starter anyway with his pitches it wasn’t even slightly shocking he ended up being useless as a starter in 2019. Corbin Burnes had a nice 2018, but entirely as a relief pitch. That is way different than starting.
  3. If georgia beats LSU today and clemson wins, who are you putting a hypothetical 1 loss badgers team in over assuming they win a close game against OSU, who already have a blowout win against the badgers? Well since the talk was largely about Georgia losing (and still making it) I wasn’t really inferring the situation you outline. I think a one loss Wisconsin easily gets in over Georgia if they lost today. Now if that didn’t happen I do not think they jump over OSU. They would have split games against each other and OSU dominated all year. We wouldn’t hop them unless we destroyed them...then maybe. Would they jump LSU or Clemson if they lost? Well...hard to say.
  4. Wisconsin would definitely have a shot and probably likely to be in if they only had one loss and beat OSU today.
  5. Well personally I hope they go out and get someone decent. Still really early and the market is loaded. That being said Stearns pieced together a garbage rotation last year...hopefully he doesn’t repeat that again, especially with the pen and offense seemingly getting worse. We should stop looking for the Jordan Lyles of the world to save us in July and pitch like aces. That isn’t a thing that will happen consistently...if it did start signing them up to pitch for us in April.
  6. Is a .800 OPS really going to be that flashy at DH? It’s not even impressive at 1B as it let alone someone who doesn’t even play the field period. The AL cumulatively put up a .786 OPS from the DH position last year, so an .800 OPS wouldn't be terrible... Not going to look up the NL stats as NL teams didn't put DH's on their rosters. AL is a pretty good measuring stick, as those teams specifically sign DH's to play full time. So basically average for a competing team...as I would guess bad DHs on rebuilding teams pull it down. Maybe not, but close enough to average anyway. I guess average is “unimpressive” to me. Not something we should stash at 1B waiting for a DH that may not come till after Narvaez is gone.
  7. Miller Park hostS non baseball events and in season to boot. They don’t seem to care.
  8. Is a .800 OPS really going to be that flashy at DH? It’s not even impressive at 1B as it let alone someone who doesn’t even play the field period.
  9. There is this myth that some small market GMs are geniuses and would conquer the world if they had a big market budget. I feel like it probably isn't that simple. I think the owners who spend lots of money are probably part of the problem (making decision on who they need to get) or the fact most FA deals end up bad so that added payroll doesn't actually help most of the time.I doubt if Stearns went and ran a big market he would make a perennial 100 game winner.
  10. I can't fathom why the Brewers would even consider this for half a second. A one year rental? I just don't see that..I don't care what player. The Brewers aren't built for a one year win now kind of move. I don't care what the trade value comparison would be, I just don't see the Brewers considering such a concept.
  11. This was true during the Doug Melvin era too, this still being the case may be reflective of Melvin being an advisor to Stearns early on. Not sure if Doug Melvin still is around these days though.
  12. Ryu is a walking injury. For the kind of coin he is going to get, with his injury history, I'd pass... And no one else in the FA class can hold a candlestick to him. Everyone is always begging for a true ace, well there he is. His predicted price tag of $18mil a year for three years is not too shabby. He is a short term guy with a non crippling salary that could provide elite results. Seems like a pretty legit risk the Brewers could take. As far as injuries Keuchel, who everyone is wanting, has averaged a grand 2.5 more starts per year the last three years. Ryu might take us to the next level, Keuchel may help us continue being a WC team.
  13. RIP *Here Lies The Dallas Cowboy’s Coaching Staff*
  14. You know when you hear those stories of Powerball winners going broke in 5 years? That’s what some of you guys sound like.
  15. You realize Mark Attanasio was a billionaire before he owned a team off of businesses, right? I bet he would appreciate the business advice, but I think he and all the people he has around him know more. He is a business man, I think he knows how to make money running one. If he could make the same amount of money or more by making a big payroll he would do it. Except he hasn’t, cause it don’t work that way.
  16. But you explain it in a nutshell. No one in LA cares about football teams yet they are about to have two. No interest to fill a stadium yet it has TWO teams. Brewers are a borderline Top 10 team for attendance yet they will never get close to sniffing Top 10 TV deal money etc. The Dodgers have a $320mil TV deal per year! We can have all the ticket sales and merch sales, but that is nothing on the big boys.
  17. No and anyone thinking otherwise is disconnected from pro sports reality. No they would not make that money back through increased TV deals, sponsorships, or anything else. TV deals are based mostly on market size as are sponsorships. Merch and ticket sales increases are short lived after a WS. Look at the Royals. Of course this is forgetting the most important part, a $175mil payroll assures zilch. Teams fail horribly with those payrolls every year. The Dodgers can’t win one with a giant payroll for YEARS let alone a year or two some want around here. People need to stop clamoring for things that simply don’t happen and in some instances a fantasy land.
  18. Do we get those pitching staffs too, asking for a friend. Just when I thought Hill and our CBA going to the Mariners was the best thing I'd see on here today... You waltzed through the door with this. That's hilarious. Love this trade. Picks absolutely have value but players who have shown success and moved up in the minors in timely fashion have more. I'm very happy we kept all the arms in the system that are showing promise while being at an advanced level for their age. If anything Hill got passed by a few more guys last year. We got a lefty catcher in his prime with 3 years of control left for the CBA. Maybe our 75th pick from 2016 will be ready in 2023 when Narvaez goes to FA. First off, congratulations on missing the joke. Secondly, it’s like you missed my 50 other posts in this thread in favor of the trade, mentioning the questionable value the pick has, and I don’t even know Hill’s stats last year...I don’t even care, that’s how much I care about his departure. Really strange that’s the post, in this entire thread, you used to rant on. Which is unfortunate cause you are talking to the wrong person as I don’t dislike the trade.
  19. Nottingham should probably figure out how to not hit sub .700 at AAA all year. Outside of his short AAA stint in 2018 he has been terrible with the Brewers. I would like to see more out of him before he gets an MLB job. I also don't see the movement to 3 catchers happening. Most teams don't have one good catcher and nearly all don't have two good catchers. Three? I don't think so, just not seeing it.
  20. So personally speaking here I feel Grandal and Narvaez are a lot more comparable offensively than some may think. Actually Narvaez could outhit Grandal the next three years and I wouldn't even flinch. So now you ask yourself is Grandal's defense (which isn't great either) worth handing out a mega contract to a 30+ year old catcher? To be honest I think we will be really glad to have Pina/Narvaez (plus whatever we spend the extra cash on) over Grandal. Even with the defense shortcomings of Narvaez.
  21. The Brewers were purchased by Mark for $250 million. They’ve been recently valued at $1.15 Billion... I think, as loyal fans who buy the tickets & buy the merch etc, we have a right to think that Mark can spend more money to improve the team. He is gaining multi-generational wealth just from owning the team. I want a World Series Championship. I’m happy with the recent trends. We have a smart new(er) GM, who I think is light years better than Melvin was. Mark has increased the payroll. I think he can spend more... I will never cry a river over concern as to whether Mark earns $800 million owning the Brewers or $500 million. And I really don’t think feeling that way makes me a Yankees fan... He has not gained a penny off the teams valuation because to do so he would have to sell the team. From what I understand the kids have an interest in the team and it is unlikely Mark A. himself ever sells the team. Their year to year earnings are a different story, but that probably is not as prosperous as some think. I doubt he makes mega piles of money to swim in. He tends to push payroll farther than any other Brewer owner (hypothetically) ever would.
  22. I knew something was up with the weird jumbled contract part and then I got to celery commitments, I busted out laughing pretty good. On a serious note I would be intrigued by Donaldson, but I just don't like his age. Maybe he ages well and you get two passable years, but it seems like a big risk. I like Ryu as a big risk sign if we were going to go that route. I think we can find some decent .800 OPS range bats for the corner infield quite easily. We won't be getting a Ryu level talent anywhere else though and he should be affordable (and also a shorter term deal). With Donaldson I just don't know how sure one can be. If he isn't OPSing near .900 that's a crummy sign for that type of money.
  23. Few things: 24 years and $528mil for Donaldson is way too much Brown has not even appeared in the majors yet, let alone drawn a big salary to get rid of next year. I don't know what celery has to do with resigning Yelich
  24. It appears that the Brewers may be thinking that way. Which is interesting because when Stearns came he made some moves and everyone assumed he valued good defense and versatility...now it seem like the opposite. I am sure he values versatility (who doesn't), but I think he really just wants the players that will add the most value regardless. A good small market GM probably doesn't fall in love with any specific attribute and instead will make a team however he seems fit in any given year. The one thing he has stuck to still is his unwillingness to invest in pitching. We will see if that stays true as the offseason moves on and he has some much money to spend
  25. Castellanos in the OF and then Braun at 1B? Is defense not a thing of value anymore?
