I was visiting someone in the Chicago burbs and their was a community (like $400,000+ houses nice) that most people didn't clear their sidewalks. Could not believe it and I don't know how they allow such a thing when the Sherriff's department in that area constantly harasses anyone if they block the sidewalk with their car for a second. And when I mean don't clear the sidewalks I mean never. They had a lot of snow and you honestly wouldn't know there was even a sidewalk if you weren't already aware. It looked weird when there was a rare person who actually did clear it.
I have seen the idea of him taking a 1 year deal...which I think is complete insanity. BUT we would be a real interesting landing spot for him if we didn't already have a pretty maxed payroll. Handing Harper in excess of $35mil just wouldn't happen and clearly a huge long term deal is not happening.
I'm okay with a Chacin, Woodruff, Peralta, Burnes, Anderson rotation... they're the five healthiest guys. Nelson and Davies missed a lot of time, and have the options to have them start in San Antonio to get back into the routine. There really is zero reason to waste an option on Nelson to start the year. They can just have him start the year on the DL and then have him go rehab in San Antonio. It isn't like Nelson would care either way. He is collecting an MLB salary regardless.
Personally I think it will be hard for Stearns to ever find a #1 starter or so to his liking price wise. He seems to be following the recent trend to spend big, whether that be draft/FA/trade, on positional players that are less risky investments and get pitching by more creative means. It is much easier to take a Chacin/Miley and tweak them to have success you would not expect. Hitters are more face value. What you see is what you get. Doing what Chacin or Miley did last year is not the norm for back of the rotation types on short deals.... extremely rare to sign these type of guys and have them perform so well. Best not to plan on that happening yearly, be it Stearns or anyone else. That being said, I expect Miley and a better 2B option not named Hiura to be on the team come late March. Actually it happens all the time every single year and some teams always find ways to make guys overachieve. Cardinals did it for years.

We need a "Beat Dead Horses Here" thread. Then we can just redirect Braun steroids, Braun 3B, Hernan Perez $30mil extension, Hader's twitter, Doug Melvin, Suppan, HighHeat, etc. to one happy horse beating place!
The arbitrator was fired because he ruled against MLB. No matter how legitimate his reasoning the MLB was going to fire anyone who caused them to lose. That is what happens when you rule against the people that pay you. But yah, this topic really doesn't need to consume the thread. It is a nice legitimate thread/topic.
I am going to lean that Miller flat out did not want the naming rights because they likely had the chance to extend the current deal at the current amount or possibly even less without the Brewers talking to anyone else.
He has zero tourney wins and looks to be putting together his first good year in 5 years. Yeah he would need a run to jump to the top of that list. I dont know if this is the year for that. Next year though. I feel like almost any notable coach hiring (like major promotion) is a direct correlation of overachieving somewhere and making it deep.

Brewers 100 Cardinals 89 Cubs 84 Reds 80 Pirates 73 One of these days that Cubs pitching staff is going to take a big step backwards due to older guys disappointing and their record will reflect that. I think this Brewers team is just as good as last year...and I think there will be big win-now mentality at the deadline if we look good. Big moves will be made. We will win 100 games. Maybe a little fandom, but I think they could field a 100 win team. We also have yet to trade any of that pitching we have. Serious starting rotation depth (and experienced) will play big when we have injuries.
That the Brewers probably plan to uncover their NL Central Champions banner on opening day and not April 5th. Can you imagine the jumbo "L" flag making a reappearance when they uncover the banner in LF?
You say that as though it's a fact, but in reality, over the past 3 seasons, Braun has struggled with outside pitches not inside ones, as well as balls down in the zone. https://www.fangraphs.com/zonegrid.aspx?playerid=3410&position=OF&ss=2016-04-04&se=2018-10-01&type=5&hand=all&count=all&blur=1&grid=10&view=bat&pitch=&season=all&data= You included 2016 which was a good year for Braun inside. If you do just 2018 he was infact pretty terrible with inside pitches too. Compare the last two years to some of the earlier years pre-2015. The change is pretty dramatic. I will say he sucks with the outside pitches to so helping him get inside pitches with a smaller/shorter bat is likely to just negate any help when he sucks even worse on the outside edge. It could actually make him so bad on the outside edge it could be crippling. as a pitcher would be unhittable if hitting the outside edge.
This just seems logical. Shorten the bat by 1.5 inches and stand a couple inches closer to the plate. All you are doing is reorganizing deck chairs. There is a negative to a shorter bat (can't reach as far) and standing closer to the plate (get beat to heck inside more than he does now). You are basically asking him to shorten 1.5 inches and then make up for it by then standing 1.5 inches closer. Can't say that will do much. I would think Ryan Braun tests bats all offseason and tries a lighter and/or shorter bat. I have heard Braun talk about hitting etc. multiple times over the years and would applaud any change he would like to make. I think he has made great adjustments over the years to stay a competent hitter. For many players the thumb injury would have been crippling to their career, but Braun has managed to still be a pretty decent hitter. If he can successfully change his launch angle he should flirt with 30 homers. He was hitting the ball hard last year a lot, but they were turning into outs. That was no fluke and it isn't surprising many became outs...because of his launch angle. I don't know if he can be 2016 Braun, but I would not be shocked if he could manage a high .800 OPS. All that depends on if he can actually get the higher launch angle to successfully AND consistently happen in games.
He very well could get into the rotation early on and then have a few of those arm fatigue DL stints. Which would probably be legit whether trying to limit innings or not.
The biggest thing I take out of this is that Jimmy Nelson is going to go into spring training to prepare as a starter. However that also tells me he is probably not likely to start the year on the opening day roster and instead the DL. That going off the fact they said he will be eased in slower than everyone else. That is my prediction with 70% confidence in it, no insider information.
eBay, just check eBay. You should get prices for balls pretty well. No COA and they will take a sizable hit value wise. Ryan Braun in particular make a really nice auto if it is for a real autograph signing vs. something like on deck that he rushes. How nice of a picture frame? Cheap one and being framed isn't very meaningful. Quick Search: Braun Ball - $50 Fielder Ball - $20 Braun Picture - $20 was last sale on eBay and that had a COA.
Reducing the thousands of drunk drivers after every game would be a solid start. Nice theory, but no. Fixed it for you... I was really trying to be generous and not think about the disturbing amount of DUIs and accidents that somehow don’t happen after sporting events. Maybe there are more designated drivers than I think.
