  1. Yeah Wakefield and then Dickey. Dickey took a long time to master that power knuckle or whatever it was called. His CY season was pretty impressive. Brewers missed it by a few years with him.
  2. I wonder how successful a knuckleballer would be in MLB nowadays. How would prime Niekro do against these guys? It seems like a knuckleball pitcher would be such a contrast to the all the hard throwers, especially if he could change speeds and had some wrinkles in his delivery/timing. The ability to eat lots of innings would further add to the value. I wish the Brewers had a guy like that in their system to follow.
  3. The Musgrove video on the foolish baseball YouTube channel is worth a watch.
  4. Whenever I see the "Garrett Mitchell's Swing" thread in the minor league forum, it reminds me of the bus scene in the movie Smoke Signals where they make up the song about John Wayne's teeth. Garrett Mitchell's swing, hey ya, hey ya, hey ya heyyy.
  5. I've got some cub fan friends and I hated that cub WS. Absolutely hated it. Probably more than I've hated any other WS championship. One of my very best friends is a vikings fan. I hope he lives a great full life and goes to his grave without ever seeing the vikings hoist the Lombardi trophy. Maybe I'm a curmudgeon, but love thy neighbor has absolutely no bearing on sports fandom in my world.
  6. Unbelievable. Kudos to the Mets announcers for calling their own team out rather than defending that crap. MLB needs to make whether or not the hitter attempted to get out of the way a reviewable call and actually call it. That's never called. What is wrong with that homeplate ump? He was literally going to call it a strike. How can he say Conforto tried to get out of the way? Too bad Bob Davidson wasn't the home plate ump. He would have called it and then ejected everybody.
  7. I just read a bit about him. Wow. So he cheated on his wife with a player he coached, then resigned after the scandal broke. Then got divorced, married the player. Then Brooke (the player he left his wife for) got a head coaching gig and hired Tyler to be her assistant. I wonder how long he gets to milk his mommy's pension.
  8. Speaking of Wong, there was a nice article in the Athletic today about his return to St. Louis. Worth the read for any subscribers.
  9. This is the stormiest, snowiest winter I've ever experienced. Since mid January we've gotten 1-2 blizzards per week. It's not bugging me so I didn't put this in the bugging thread, but holy smokes. We had another blizzard last night and wind chills in the -30s this morning. We've just about run out of places to put snow. When it all finally melts it's going to be an unbelievable mess around here. It will be a miracle if some area communities don't get flooded during break up.
  10. I believe yankees allow mustaches and gossage went with a big hulk hogan mustache on that technicality. Remember clean cut yankee Randy Johnson?
  11. What???
  12. I was definitely one who wished they'd spent the 5.25 on Knebel. Whether Knebel's 2021 ends up showing that to be smart money or not remains to be seen of course, but I thought it would be worth it to potentially have one of the greatest bullpens ever.
  13. I am speculating that it was discussed with Odor prior to the trade. I recall reading about Brian Wilson being a potential target and then removed from consideration as he stated that the beard stays. Either that or NYY/Hal has decided George has been dead long enough?
  14. Well now I have to disagree with some posters here tonight A good smoked ring bologna from a butcher shop can be absolutely fantastic.
  15. Perhaps they got programmed to do that from hearing Harry Caray vomit the words "there's a drive" for every can of corn hit by a cub.
  16. I have not heard any Cinderella talk for ucla. Maybe there has been but I haven’t heard or seen it.
  17. Something I would love to see, and yes this is my card hatred talking, is to see teams intentionally break the unwritten rules against the cards. Goad them into more of this stuff. Eventually fighting those battles will cost them.
  18. Great game. UCLA provided me with a lot of entertainment this tournament. I’m no Bruins fan overall but I was rooting for them. Although the big shot at the end was cool I wish it had gone to double ot.
  19. Story is another Colorado guy where you have to take a look at the home/away splits and figure out what you think he really is. (career .993 home ops, .760 away) In my mind, he'd probably improve the Brewers to some extent down the stretch, but not to any degree that would merit giving up any of those prospects mentioned by wildcat. If Stearns gave Colorado Mitchell, for example, for 2.5 months of Story I probably couldn't even bring myself to be mad at him. I would figure he'd gone totally nuts and needed help from his loved ones.
  20. I had the same basic knowledge as Turbo. After reading this I looked on youtube at the biggest "hit" video from bad baby. I almost made it through a minute of it. Good grief.
  21. I took a look just to see if there was any mention of Braun at 3b. Not leaving disappointed.
  22. Very much agreed. I always hoped for the day he'd have to come to the Kohl Center and take the medicine he had coming.
  23. Honestly, making the finals with an all-freshman lineup today, when the top players rarely spend more than a year in college, would be absurdly impressive. The Duke team that beat Wisconsin is probably the most freshman-led team to ever win it all and they only started three and had an all-conference senior. Most of the teams that have started four of five freshmen underachieved based on the hype. Now go back to that era, when the best players stayed in school longer ... That Duke team they lost to was probably the pinnacle of that era of Duke teams. Not winning it as sophomores might have been disappointing, but that first year was legitimately revolutionary. And that was great too. I laughed like a loon when Webber got the T for calling timeout.
