    This way pitchers will never bat, but the strategy and bench depth is still a part of the game. Both sides get what they really want. That’s actually an interesting idea

    I’d agree with what seems like the majority that if TB has an outrageous asking price for Archer, move on. I get why they have a high one, but it needs to be realistic. Santana and Burns should closely get TB what they want, and not much more beyond a Villar/Aguilar addition

    I think the term ace gets thrown around far too often. By the measure that some of you consider an ace, there's like 5 of them in all of baseball. Honestly, I'm not sure how someone can say Archer isn't an ace while saying that deGrom is. So deGrom's an ace because he got luckier? I'm just saying, the term ace is being used too loosely. Giving up more hard contact isn’t “unlucky.” But for the term “ace”- it means 1. By definition there should be 30 then. Not that it’s what ace means typically

    That’s exactly what I hope they do. Build up his innings by give no him 2-3 IP at a time. I hat that because he doesn’t get called a “starter” he will have to throw so few innings. This would help with batters seeing him too many times also

    How are Mike Clevingers and Santana’s value in relation to each other. I like his 2017 season and durability more than Salazar’s productive, but injury-prone career

    Yes I’d rather have him for anything near that low of a price instead of Vogt also. The playing time in Arizona would be more appealing though. It will be interesting to see what Lucroy gets now. He may have to accept going to a lower equality team like the A’s unless the Nate are willing to pay for him (maybe if he was a Boras client they would).

    Calhoun’s supposedly bad enough defensively that he belongs at DH. Of course if the Brewers think he’d be passable there, it makes a lot of sense. He crushed AAA

    I just don’t think the Dodgers would want to get rid of him. You need 2 catchers anyway, and Barnes may end up playing quite a bit of 2B with Forsythe there. Remember he is versatile himself and is coming off a down year. If the dodgers are open to a trad win which they only want Vogt and a good-not great-prospect then sure

    I get that future indicators have a good view of Asher and good explanations; I just think 2 Mediocre years from Archer and a very good year from santana should be reflected in the value in the trade

Great contract, but good player, not give up the farm player FYI - Domingo Santana’s 2017 WAR = Archer 2016/17 combined war. If Santana isn’t the majority of the package, don’t trade for him

    Archer has a 3 WAR the last 2 seasons combined, with a league average era+. Can we stop acting like he’s an elite pitcher? He’s with looking into, but not for a King’s ransom

    Interesting idea. But 2017 was likely better than Lowrie going forward if you look at his previous years m. Oakland’s alsonuangnhim as a means to keep Barrett in the minors to start the year

    If the Brewers are smart bright enough to get over starter/reliever labels, he can still throw just as many innings as a reliever. -3 innings twice a week instead of 6 innings once a week. -I can also see the Chris Sale career path for him too

    Thames makes sense as an improvement at DH over Hanley (probably platoon actually)

    Yep. Can’t pick and choose when you want to have morals or high character. Sorry MrTPlush, but baseball is letting these guys burn for something they knew about and we complicit about. Something us they did know about, and knew was wrong, hence the hiding and still lack of admission for the most part today. Plus, Ty Cobb’s personality didn’t hedge competition like PEDs.

    Salazar has only had 1 full season in his career and it was 3 years ago. He’s not in the same category as those others (although Archers getting overrated due to desperation for a trade imo). Santana’s worth more than him alone

    I would not vote the PED users - I don’t really get the argument that there are surely ones already in. That would be like eliminating prisons because there some innocents in and guilty ones not caught. Edgar should be in and as mentioned in another post, Billy Wagner would be on my ballot too. Larry Walker is hard due to the amount of games missed. HOFer while on the field though

    As did Chipper. I don't remember Chipper being anything more than average defensively at 3B. Nor would he have to be with the way he hit to get into the HOF
