  1. . We do all that, are we still going to be able to catch the Cubs now? There are also 2 wildcard spots available Good space out in left field for another Wild Card Banner....I mean it’s been ten years since the last one. The 2014 Giants, 2011 Cardinals, 2004 Red Sox, etc don’t mind having that banner next to their World Series ones. And the Cubs aren’t exactly a dynasty yet just because of 2016. They weren’t that good and Archer isn’t mortgaging the future. He has 4 years yet on his deal and Stearns won’t overpay either

  3. They won 80 games last year...then will suck by adding players to that team without really losing anything?

  5. Let us not forget pops from Major League 3!
  6. It seems so obvious the lineup would be set with a 2B with OBP to lead off. Trade for Jed Lowrie If Oak is willing m. They could use OF help. pHI doesn’t seem up to lineup with prospects for Hernandez, unfortunately.
  7. Yep definitely pulled a Roger Clemens and “misremembered” that number
  8. Combining Duffy with Whit Merrifeld would make for an interesting trade. The Brewers could deal an OF from the surplus and a good (but not Burnes-Esque) Pitching prospect. They’d get the pitcher and lead off 2B they need for next year
  9. Yeah if Milwaukee can get a bit more from Miami to even it out or swap one of those for Broxton, then it would be a sweet deal. Maybe even Dee Gordon (though I’m not a fan-low OBP)
  10. While we are at it, we should trade Hiura and Ortiz for Tim Tebow... Yeah cuz Yelich and Tebow are almost comparable. In case you haven’t, and judging from y Ur response you have not, look at Yelich contract and career stats. He’d cost at least 2 top prospects
  11. Good points. The tough part IMO is how to have him reestablish himself. Can they allow horrendous production again to possibly keep them from a playoff spot? Or Do they trade Perez to allow Villar to be the utility guy? I have a hard time, with a strong young team, to just throw Villar back out there as a starter and hope for another 2016
  12. I’m not saying he’s a must trade. Personally I’d trade Perez and get a real 2B, using Villar as a super sub instead of Perez. I was wondering what teams would be a good match for Villar though. Here’s the best trade partners I’ve thought of. Blue Jays - they want someone who can backup both 2B and SS for their injury prone regulars Padres - want a SS and could gamble with Villar there while rebuilding. Tigers - they’re gonna trade Kinsler (maybe even to Brewers) Royals - could play him or Merrifeld at 3B Angels - I’m sure the Angels are aiming higher than Villar. They have holes at both 2B and 3B Would hear teams give up anything decent for Villar? Or is Stearns Better off keeping Villar? Even as a bench piece?
  13. My plan: Trades -Brinson and Phillips for Christian Yelich -Hernan Perez for Ian Kinsler FAs- -Sabathia - 1yr/12mil -Pat Nezchek- 1yr/6mil -Jake McGee - 2yr/12 mil -Alex Avila - 2yr /15 million (Vogt non tender) Overall: Makes for a competitive team this year while keeping payroll/roster space for upcoming prospects and trade deadline flexibility
  14. Agreed m. He’s be a good soft platoon option with Pina
  15. They’re absolute not gonna use a 6 man bench, nor should they
  16. I think all three on the bench is an excellent outcome. Perez is a bit of a power bat off the bench with some speed, and can play eight positions (all but catcher). Villar is versatile and fast. Sogard brings OBP skills at three IF positions. If the Crew could get Walker on a deal structured like Chase Anderson's (two guaranteed years, two team options), this is a bench to ride with when you add the other half of the Phillips/Brinson, Thames/Aguilar, and Pina/Vogt platoons. If the starters are healthy, the Crew has loads of options for extra innings, etc. If someone gets hurt, people are there to step in. I mentioned the "Bench Mob" the Bulls had earlier this decade. I think the Brewers have MLB's equivalent, and that helped fuel an 86-win season. That would be a 6 man bench. They’re not doing that. That’s why I’m hoping one of Villar/Perez go since they’d be redundant bench players on a 5 man bench. That would also mean they’re not making the mistake of giving Villar the 2B job again
  17. Well they’re not gonna have all 3 of Villar, Perez and Sogard on the bench next year. I’m hoping for at least one of them to be in a trade rather than rolling with any. Combo of that threesome as the regular 2B. Not when there are plenty of options on the trade and FA market for 2B and all 3 of those showed they’re better as bench players
  18. Yeah it makes sense to move Aguilar for a decent offer. Especially with all the OFs and more coming, it’s time one of Santana or Nraun starts at least moonlighting at 1B.
  19. I have to agree. Cozart has never played an inning anywhere besides SS in his entire career. Not saying he couldn't but a big part of his value is that he's an elite defensive SS, too. Maybe it would be different if he were a bad defensive SS who could benefit from a move to 2nd but not the case here. He'll get big money and multiple years from someone who needs him to play short. I'd be nervous about such a big commitment for someone with one great out of nowhere offensive year anyway. But who is going to be in the SS market? He may have trouble finding a team - in which case a more reasonable deal from r someone as injury prone as him would make more sense. With the supply of decent 2B possibly exceeding demand I hope the Brewers sign one on a decent deal. It wouldn’t have to be too long then either (not that I already assume Hiura if the future at 2B like some apparently do )
  20. Cozart may not quite get SS $ since not many teams are looking for a SS (likely why he was never traded off by CIN.) I do think he will get more than 2 years but less than 20 million/year. If his market is reasonable enough I'd like Stearns to look at it
  21. yeah I've never seen him pitch. I'll give that guy with the long Gross hair (Hager or something?) a look next time
  22. There is a good possibility that Hader-unless he improves his secondary pitches- ends up in the pen for effectiveness reasons. But 5 innings a astray isn't good for the bullpen long term. Anyone questioning Hader's secondary stuff must not have actually seen him throw it. He gets swings and misses with both pitches often, especially his slider. I'll be fairly upset if he doesn't end up in the rotation to start 2018 unless Stearns goes rogue and adds 2 high end SP in the off season. Anyone NOT questioning headers secondary stuff must not have actually seen him throw it- which is easy to miss since he threw his fastball over 80% of the time. His fangraphs pitch value: -FB-9.9 -SL-3.3 -CH-(-1.4) He was a 1 pitch pitcher this year. Not saying he can't start (since I had him starting in the rotation in 2018) but I would be surprise if he ends up in the bullpen
  23. SP-Anderson, FA (I'll predict Lance Lynn), Davies, woodruff, Hader RP: knebel, re-sign Swarzak, Jeffress, Barnes, Suter, Hughes, acquire a 7th RP in Keon Broxton trade. C-Alex Avila/pina platoon 1B-Thames/Aguilar platoon 2B-Howie Kendrick - many options in FA/trade Ss-Arica 3B-Shaw LF-Braun Cf-Brinson RF-Santana Bench - other halves of platoons, Phillips, and 1 of Villar/Perez (trade the other since they're redundant )
  24. There is a good possibility that Hader-unless he improves his secondary pitches- ends up in the pen for effectiveness reasons. But 5 innings a astray isn't good for the bullpen long term.
  25. Get 1 FA this offseason largely due to Nelsons injury and a small inning limit in shader likely. Let the market dictate if that's a bigger investment (Lance Lynn) mid-level investment (Chatwood) or 1 year rental (CC Sabathia). Beginning 2018: Anderson, FA addition, Davies, woodruff, hader( to bullpen mid season) Depth/mid season additions: suter, Burnes, Ortiz, Nelson, maybe Guerra, Wilkerson, Lopez This would give good depth, delay control seasons for younger guys, and allow Hader to go to the bullpen for innings limit while being important as a reliever
