  1. There was a good point about a roster logjam in the Walker thread and there may be some thought 25/40 man roster decisions soon, so maybe Cleveland would Tske Aguilar back as a 1B platoon with Alonzo. Brewers get: Salazar Mejia Indians get: Santana, Nottingham (young C to “replace” Mejia), Aguilar,+throw in
  2. If Walker signs a 2 year $22 million deal as I suggested, I have zero issue with dealing Villar as a piece in a deal for a SP or cutting Sogard or Perez as I view them as 25th man type guys. Cutting Sogard or Perez significantly impacts our flexibility, which is critical when carrying 12 position players and 2 guys that are 1b only(aguilar can play 3b in an emergency, Thames is like Matt Holliday in LF). Signing Walker probably means trading Villar and also probably means we have to keep Perez over Aguilar. If we didn't make the move, Perez could be the one to go and Villar could be the emergency 3rd CF option. If Villar goes, I think it's important to keep Perez for that job...which weakens our bench not having Aguilar. And trading Villar now probably would be throwing away significant value. He's almost certainly something between the 2016 and 2017 versions. Even being roughly at the midpoint is a valuable player. It's a tough call really. Walker is more stable/certain, and his hitting style complements our roster better. Villar has the better upside, and is much cheaper, and keeping him likely means we can also keep aguilar. This is why it would just make so much sense, along with the OF logjam, to have Braun at 1B vs LHP
  3. But he’s still good enough that he should be playing when healthy Brantley has played 238 games the last 3 years combined. Chisenhall had multiple injury issues last season. Both guys hit left handed and both have experience in CF. There would be plenty of playing time and platoon opportunities available with Santana, along with insurance in case of injury. Having all 4 guys may even help players stay healthy throughout the season. yeah I agree, although I don’t think brantley would ever see CF again. Santana would definitely fit; I was thinking they may desire for more offense out of CF however. Chisenhall could do that, but at a downgrade to their defense
  4. I’d be happy with Santana for Salazar+, but not Greg Allen, not an OF if possible
  5. But he’s still good enough that he should be playing when healthy
  6. I think Cleveland would be a good trade option, but with Zimmer having an unimpressive rookie season and Chisenhall and Brantley in the corners, a CF-capable player would seek to make more sense. DH isn’t much of an option for Brantley often with Encarnacion and Alonzo at 1B. Maybe Phillips as the starting point
  7. I did see awhile back somewhere a link to a pirates site proposal. The trade was Gerrit Cole for both Brinson and Hader
  8. I’d agree Walker at 2/22 would be preferable. But the question was if He was holding out for a 3rd year. In that Case Id like Kendrick. He can start and transition to a utility role later if one of the minor leaguers is ready. Kendrick would provide decent production, which is way way more than the Brewers got out of 2B last year
  9. I’d agree that if they’re intent on realsistically contending, although 2 of those options being OF and the other being most likely used to get young pitching, I’m not sure how they’d fit without other corresponding moves. They would all make better lead off options though
  10. These two statements pretty much sum up what I anticipate occurring in 2018. I very much would welcome Walker back and would hope he would lead off if he is. However, if he isn't, I would imagine the Brewers give Villar every opportunity in the world (or until May 1) to take back his leadoff role. But remember for some ungodly reason Counsell had Walker but didn’t lead him off
  11. That’s definitely a pro-royals proposal
  12. I wouldn’t be giving up Brinson the get Realmuto. He’s a clear upgrade from Pina but not enough to give up Brinson
  13. The Brewers would not have much of a glut if Phillips and Brinson went to the Marlins via trade, but there are A couple reasons for the interest: -with all the team control yet he wouldn’t be a rental (same for JT) -he’s available for trade on a good contract -it would balance out the lineup as a lefty and as a lead off hitter (OBP) Id actually prefer Caesar Hernandez since 2B is a need but I don’t think PHI matches up as well for a trade with an already crowded outfield for instance
  14. Brewers get: Yelich and Realmuto, have to take Castro Marlins get: Brinson, Pina, Phillips, Ortiz, Isan Diaz, Dubon Fair?
  15. Neil Walker. There don’t seem to be a lot of teams searching for a 2B so maybe he’d only get a 2 year deal. He had a 400 OBP as a Brewer and the inky reason he wasn’t the lead off hitter the team needed is that Counsell was too dumb to bat him there. I also have my doubts about Billar returning to being a good player
  16. If a team acquired him they probably aren’t so negative on him like a lot of poster here. I would assume he would start. I’d agree that a team acquiring him would likely think of starting or at least playing him significantly. But if they did that they’d also likely only look at 2016 and not much else. He absolutely sucked last year, has never been good defensively, and wasn’t the top prospect I think some people imagine he was. Because if he was, Cy Sneed wouldn’t have landed him. Not to mention his stupidity on the bases
  17. I still dont love how he handled his demotion from the rotation a couple years ago though
  18. No, it was said many times that he was a leader in the clubhouse especially with the young guys last year and was one of the biggest pranksters/practical jokers in all of MLB. He did a lot to keep a loose clubhouse. Whenever they interviewed guys on TV in the dugout and you saw sunflower seeds, Double Bubble, etc., being tossed on them, it was Garza. I don't know how I didn't know this. Garza was fairly well-known for being a jerk at previous stops. There weren't any incidents here? I feel like there was. A student of mine has CP and through something (make-a-wish?) got to meet some players. Garza and Lohse spent the most time with him, though his favorite player Brain was too busy to come see him. I’m Brains defense it was his first game playing off an injury. That same kid got to another game months later and go on the field again. Not only did Garza hang out with him, but he remembered the kid from his first time there.
  19. At that price, or even close, it’s a terrible idea
  20. Except Castro is only under contract for 2 more years, and is not that good.
  21. The problem with the previous couple of offers mentioned is that the Marlins have to accept them also. They kind of remind me of a Gerrit Cole for Brinson/Hader trade I saw proposed somewhere (pirates site obviously). A trade for Yelich/Tealmuto could definitely be best for both teams, but the package would have to start with Brinson. With all 6 years of control yet, there’s no way the Marlins would think he’d be done by the time they’re rebuild is finished.
  22. And we already have Hernan Perez
  23. I wonder what the price would be of a Yelich/Realmuto trade. A lot to stay the least, starting with Brinson and likely Pina also. But that would leave the Brewers with a great lineup though
  24. The Brewers lost 100 games last season? I think his point was that despite having a young team with prospects upcoming and a winning record last year, many think it would be a bad idea to acquire controllable talent because they won’t be projected to finish ahead of the Cubs.
  25. Herrera is only under team control for one more season, so actually his part of the price-tag might be pretty low. I guess the return for all three would be something like Lewis Brinson, Brandon Woodruff, Isan Diaz and Freddy Peralta. And I would completely agree with the people who point out that the Brewers couldn't do this deal because it's not a net add for the rotation (losing Woodruff offsets the addition of Duffy). That’s way too much to give up. I’m Not a big fan of Merrifield since I think they need some OBP. Getting Duffy and Herrera makes some sense, but Brinson cannot be part of that package. Trading from the OF surplus is a good idea, but that should be Broxton and Harrison in that trade instead
