  1. Way to get your hacks in Ryan. He's way off right now.
  2. In Ned's defense, I'm following on gameday so I was probably too quick to judge.
  3. Guys, he can't take out Suppan yet! If the Brewers take the lead next inning, he'll be on the hook for the win!
  4. Yeah, gameday had a strikeout and then took it away. Now it appears there was a strikeout a few pitches later.
  5. PECOTA has the Brewers at a 52% chance at the playoffs entering today. You have to keep Sheets and just hope you can re-sign him.
  6. Torres has an option for next year. Sheets has never suffered a serious long-term injury and has never missed close to a full season.
  7. Good observation though. Not sure if it's terrifying or kinda funny.
  8. They're at 84 mil this year, and Attanasio said he'd expand that to add an impact player this season. Gagne (10), Mota (3.2), Counsell (2.8), Sheets (12.1) and possibly Cameron (5) and Capuano (3.75) come off the books--up to $37 million total. Add on record attendance and the payroll should only go up. Arbitration won't take up nearly all that excess cash. They can afford Sheets. The issue is whether they should. Edit: Forgot about Turnbow. That's another $3.2 mil, which means up to 40 mil to work with without factoring arby raises and a payroll increase.
  9. Sheets at 9-1. Joe Morgan said the first thing he looks at is wins and losses, so Ben's sittin' pretty!
  10. Definitely agree. Double in the gap ends the game, and if Jones steals second, a bloop single wins it. Hated that move.
  11. So where will they get these pitchers? Sign two in free agency and spend more than Sheets would cost alone? Trade for them and give up good prospects/players? I don't see how that will be a better alternative to making a big push for Sheets, even on the open market. I wish people would get past the "small market" thing. The Brewers are 15th in MLB in payroll. They aren't a small market payroll team anymore. While Sheets will demand a significant amount of money, he will only cost money--not players as well. The top option needs to be re-signing him, otherwise they won't be able to replace his production without spending even more or giving up a lot of trade chips. I'd still try to approach him before free agency, if nothing else, just to show you'll be a player for him.
  12. My great mood was turned totally around as The Riot hit that weak grounder to no-man's land to load the bases with nobody out. I found myself disappointed in myself that I would let the Cubs game spoil a great start to an important Brewers road trip. Of course when Sherrill bounced back, I was quite happy.
  13. Not that the name is all that great, but I like the name/avatar combo. I HAVE TASTE OF TEH ROBUSTEZAS! http://images.yuku.com/image/gif/d8b15e469cd9942f7c7a6f57a2c13adaa1e9af5.gif
  14. Yep. I said it in the Braun thread, but I think Prince's numbers are more deserving of an all-star spot than Braun. Prince has really come on lately.
  15. TLB, for whatever reason I call Clint Hurdle "Bootspur." No idea why. I just started calling him Bootspur Clint last year. It seemed to fit. (split post when the thread was split --1992)
  16. That does sound familiar, but I'm not sure it means anything. Attanasio wouldn't have said in spring that they'd try to lock up Sheets because they hadn't seen him pitch yet this season. There were some questions as to whether Sheets would be healthy and/or declining some. My feeling all along has been the Brewers should wait a couple months to see if he's healthy and still good, and then make him an offer around the All-Star break. (split post when the thread was split --1992)
  17. I'm not sure that I understand this. I always thought 1B was the "easiest" position, and Fielder's defense has been atrocious this year. You're right, I just worded it poorly. I should have said "Even considering defense and position, I'd still... bla bla." Fielder is awful and an easier position than Braun, but I still think he's been the better player.
  18. I like the idea of Maddux much more than C.C. Gwynn/C pitching prospect is probably all it'd take if the Brewers took his salary.

  21. Lincecum or Felix would be the two I'd like the most, but they're unattainable. I think the guy I'd like most is Greinke. I think they could probably build a package around LaPorta for him, or trade Prince for Greinke in the offseason and probably get more back from KC.
  22. Hey now! The first thing Joe Morgan looks at is wins, and right now Sheets is 9-1! There's a chance!
  23. I know this thread isn't about signing Sheets, but I couldn't let this go. He doesn't want to sign an extension? How do you know this? Every pitcher does not go to free agency. Many do, but several have signed below-market value extensions as they approach free agency. Sheets did it once already, in fact. As far as the game, Sheets is one of three or four guys who is in the running. There are still a few starts before the game, so the numbers will change a bit.
  24. As of this morning: Cubs road record: 16-20 Brewers road record: 16-21 Perception isn't always the same as reality. Not sure of the point you were trying to make here? As far as I can tell, he wasn't saying that the Cubs are worse than the Brewers on the road, just that they have more road games from here on out.
