  1. Any hitter's "job" is to get on base. It's literally the most important thing for a hitter to accomplish. Some just do it better than others Yesterday, when we were debating this topic, Braun ranked 10th among NL outfielders in OPS.
  2. That sort of assumes that the teams are pretty equal. Numbers indicate that the Cubs are better than the Brewers, Mets, Braves and Cardinals, so they'd be a tougher team to catch.
  3. OBP is definitely more important. You only get 27 outs in a game. A hitter's main job should be to not use one up, and right now Braun is bad at not making outs. As for the first question, I don't think you're looking at it the right way. It's not like people want to replace Braun's homers with walks. It's not like he still wouldn't hit home runs if he walked more.
  4. You can't use homers and slugging as two separate arguments for Braun. Slugging already takes homers into account. So does OPS, and when we were making our case yesterday, Braun ranked 10th in OPS in the NL among outfielders.
  5. Exactly what I was thinking. Wonder if they should really be after Cecil?
  6. Care to back this up? We aren't talking about who we'd rather have on our teams, we're arguing who's had the better season. McLouth has a higher OPS, higher OBP and is a much better defender.
  7. Sure the three guys ahead of Braun are less deserving, but six or seven guys behind Braun are more deserving.
  8. Way to take "questioning whether he deserves it" and turn it into "lobbying against it."
  9. Is it wrong that I'm tempted to vote for Burrell, McLouth and Bay over Braun?
  10. Seems like trades don't usually occur until draft night, and then things get rolling.
  11. Did they say Haren or Harden? Haren isn't going to be traded...
  12. Baseball-wise, Ichiro isn't that overpaid now, but in three and four years when he's declined even further that will be pretty rough. He's not good enough anymore to help a lot anyway. Cameron's probably better in center, and he doesn't hit enough to start in either corner here.
  13. If they trade Fielder, it should be for a pitcher who the Brewers will control for at least three years. Also, I'd never expect them to trade Prince in-season.

  16. I at least like what Willie had to say about "chemistry."
  17. I can't understand how Minnesota would even consider #8 and CV for #3. I never realized what an amazing athlete Joe Alexander is. Apparently at workouts he was doing that elbow-inside-the-rim dunk and head butted the rim?
  18. I could write a short novel about my hatred for the new Klements commercial with the family. And yes, I actually mean "hatred." I don't just get annoyed by that commercial; I get visibly angry to the point that I now lunge for the remote the second I see it come on. It's sausage. SAUSAGE. Why are you showing me a mother bobbing her baby up and down? Is this supposed to indicate she feeds her infant child Klement's sausage? For that matter, what does family have to do with sausage in the first place? You're telling me that families should never run out of love. What's your point? You could also say that people should not exceed the speed limit, but it would have no place in a sausage ad. Top it off with an over-the-top corny song, and you've made one of the most irritating commercials I've ever seen. Ugh. I think I feel a little better now.
  19. Even still, I have a hard time believing a .800 road OPS guy, even one with good defense, is worth the contract he got. He seems like the 2007/2008 versions of Bill Hall with better defense.
  20. I admit it. I didn't know what crocs were until I saw the pictures.
  21. I think the British is his favorite? I'd be surprised if he sat out.
  22. Yeah, I mentioned Beltre because Bavasi gave him that big contract after is one career year that was way above anything he had done or anything he's done since. Edgar Diaz Rocks (EDR) is a poster here. I believe he lives in Seattle and/or is a Mariners fan?
  23. Not to mention Jeff Weaver, Jarrod Washburn, Adrian Beltre, etc. I imagine EDR will be pleased.
  24. I really don't see the Mets trading off parts, even if they should. At this point, though, they probably shouldn't even be thinking about it.
  25. Lincecum is already great. I kind of doubt the Brewers would get Lincecum for just Prince, actually.
