  1. I heard that too. Although my opinion of Neyer fell exponentially after he ranked Prince Fielder like the 300th best young player or whatever it was.
  2. Why do people continue to dismiss the fact that Suppan's no-trade clause ends after this year? After this season it's only limited. Sure it might not be easy to move him, but if the Brewers kick in a few mil there will be takers. Isn't it easy to see that this contract was drawn up with a trade in mind?
  3. I interned with the Brewers a few summers ago, and actually sprained my wrist during the office kickball game. As if that wasn't embarrassing enough by itself, the next day Cirillo stopped by the office and was saying hello to some people. This was when he had broken his hand, and he saw my splint. He said, "Ouch, how'd you do that?" Let's just say I didn't take a 90 mph fastball off my hand like you did. I wanted to die.
  4. I can't remember ever seeing one worse. Escobar's foot had already touched and left first base by the time the first baseman's foot even got there.
  5. I listen to him every day on the way home from work.
  6. I flipped on 540's post game for about 5 minutes the other day. In that span, Homer declared his hatred for small ball and a caller used EQA to bolster his point. I think I know where I'll be listening from now on if I want to hear a post game show. Edit: Of course, that five minutes is a small sample size, so perhaps I shouldn't draw such a strong conclusion from that yet. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. Good article. The thing the struck me the first time I saw him pitch was how calm he is on the mound. It's really impressive.
  8. I wear glasses/contacts, and I find that when I remove my contacts, my eyes almost instantly feel more tired. If I have to go for a drive at night, I make sure I put in my contacts. Does this happen to anyone else? Most of my friends with contacts think I'm weird.
  9. It's too bad Ramirez will probably need to be moved off shortstop, but hopefully he can make a good center fielder.
  10. I don't know much about Butler aside from what's been said here, but I'm not a fan of this trade at all. If one of Hart, Cameron or Braun get hurt, the Brewers will be in big trouble. Gross had everything that this offense needs more of, and shipping him out in favor of making slap-hitting Tony Gwynn the fourth outfielder is a definite downgrade. I'd wager with anyone that Gross will significantly outperform Gwynn this season.
  11. I didn't see the in-game thread for that day, but were people really questioning bringing in Shouse? That was a no-brainer move that just didn't work out. Not using a reliever for the fourth consecutive day, in April no less, should have been a no-brainer as well. Even worse, leaving him in to walk another batter after the two homers was baffling.
  12. I think the Cubs have outscored the Pirates by something like 400-10 in six games.
  13. I was born in April so this doesn't really apply to me either way, but I find it pretty fascinating.
  14. They must have really ponied up if he's taking their offer over NY, Memphis and potentially Miami.
  15. After seeing the amount, it isn't too bad. The last few option years are pretty huge.
  16. Never got into Econ either, so I'm not going to make any brilliant points in that regard. What I meant is, compared to the rest of the field, players in their first three years are severely underpaid. After that, if they are good enough to stick they'll generally make over a million bucks a year, and obviously depending on the player, a lot more. Star players often see about a 1,000% increase in a year. Also, without the system that keeps players on the cheap for their first few years, smaller-budget teams would have even less of a chance to compete. My point is that players will start demanding long-term deals earlier and earlier. If the trend continues, it will eventually reach the draft. We already have players who fall because they refuse to take slot value. I just don't see this as a good sign on the grand scheme.
  17. I was only two for Sveum's Easter home run, but man did that look like a fun time on the highlights. Bunch of shirtless dudes just going crazy. I'd have loved to been around for the 80s teams.
  18. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. I was pretty sure Ned would go back to Hall batting fifth after his day off.
  19. Sure the salaries are artificially low for pre-arby players, but it's more than made up for from that point on. Another aspect is that the Rays just put added pressure on a top prospect. Everywhere they go this year, the media is going to be talking about the "minor leaguer who got a 9 year deal." It doesn't make much sense.
  20. Sometimes "strategy" is a synonym for small ball. I think there's plenty of strategy towards going for the three-run homer. Working counts, getting on base and not making outs on the basepaths are all conscious decisions. Plus there is still plenty of strategy in things like pitching changes, double-switches, etc.
  21. In my office, employees are free to leave at noon on Friday. Of course, I'm still in my "probationary period" so I don't get that privilege yet. I'm not complaining, except I'm finding it very difficult to stay off brewerfan and get some work done with only two other people left in the office.
  22. Gross has had success against Arroyo, so that might be worth noting. It would be nice to see him get going if he gets the start. I can't believe how much Ben Sheets has dominated Adam Dunn.
  23. Sometimes I wish I was more mature. Anyway, Turnbow is pretty frustrating to figure out. By this point I'd be fine if they moved him. Kind of like Jorge de la Rosa. I was so enamored with his stuff, enough to give him a much longer leash than others, but eventually you had to move on.
  24. Villanueva hasn't had one start as good as Bush's last one. Either way, the performance so far this season shouldn't really be taken much into consideration. Were you basing the comment about the defense behind Bush based on statistics, or just your observation? Just asking. I don't recall any Brewers pitcher having excellent defense behind him last season.
  25. That's almost as bad as that one super bowl commercial.
