  1. Of course this is possible, but how long would it take to find out which one? And how many shellings would it have taken before they got there?
  2. Wow, yeah, that's definitely true.
  3. Per Ken Rosenthal, Brewers are close to an agreement.
  4. Well if they did acquire Yelich, they'd trade an OF for pitching, most likely.
  5. They just outperformed their PECOTA projection by ten games and missed the playoffs by a game. What are you talking about?
  6. Nobody is cheering for losing. If we were, we'd be wanting the Brewers to do what the Marlins are doing. We prefer patience, which is thankfully what David Stearns also prefers.
  7. Your option 2 looks great to me.
  8. No. Hardly any teams have done anything.
  9. They have better stuff, but they weren't as valuable last year as Davies. A lot of people had better stuff than Greg Maddux. Results are results. Also, he was the one to bring up a 2 WAR. I was responding to the claim that it was fair to say that Woodruff and Hader would put up 2 WAR.
  10. This is definitely a leap of faith to just assume that Woodruff/Hader would be that good as starters. Only 44 starting pitchers had a WAR of 2.0 or better last year. It's much more likely they come in below that.
  11. I don't see a need for Panik at all. Brewers will have Villar, Sogard, and Dubon to compete for the spot. Why use an asset to fill a situation that is bound to improve from 2017 anyway? Broxton for Samardzija makes sense to me. It's probably pretty even in terms of value if the Brewers take on all of Samardzija's salary.
  12. Of course, but I see no way Oakland takes that offer.
  13. Ugh. Not against trading Cordell, but I hate the idea of trading for two months of a reliever.
  14. Well that's definitely a correct assessment. Even if they got Gray, they'd be unlikely to make the playoffs. The Brewers aren't a bad team, but they aren't very good, and they're way, way behind the Dodgers, Nats, and Cubs in terms of talent. It doesn't make any sense to give up a great prospect package when you aren't likely to even make the playoffs.
  15. 9.6% chance for the playoffs according to Fangraphs. Obviously still do everything you can to win, which should probably include Brinson and Woodruff soon, but being a big buyer at this point would be foolish.
  16. Fangraphs had the Brewers at 10% to make the playoffs *before* today's loss. They should absolutely should not be buying at this point. Stearns needs to be allowed total freedom. Maybe Mark should go on vacation until August.
  17. Neither Stroman nor Gray are aces. They're above average pitchers with side/durability concerns.
  18. Why would Oakland take three guys approaching arbitration over players with 6 years of MLB control?
  19. I agree, or at least it shouldn't take as much. If it does, hard pass.
  20. Arcia Brinson Santana The others are good but no longer young.
  21. I think they want him to be the relief ace, a la Miller or Devenski. Those guys don't pitch in as many games necessarily, bit they often go multiple innings and are really, really valuable. I don't think they move Hader to the rotation until next season.
  22. It makes more sense to target relievers like Neshek with prospects in the 12-25 range than give up multiple top ten guys for a starter. His numbers are great. He looked really impressive yesterday.
  23. No thanks to that Nightengale proposal. If you're gong to give up those pitching prospects, find something better than a number 3 starter with durability issues.
  24. People are mistaking "best pitcher who is definitely available" for an ace. He has less value than Quintana and shouldn't bee considered more than a 2/3. Brinson, Hader should only be available if we're talking about Fulmer or Archer, and the Rays aren't selling. They're currently in the playoffs.
  25. For those wanting the Brewers to have this long list of untouchable prospects, how do you plan to use all of them in the future? They certainly won't all become solid big leaguers, and even if they somehow do, you won't have room for all of them. Some of them will hit, and some of them will fizzle out. Keeping them all is just as risky as trading a bunch of them.
