  1. The one game playoff is a terrible idea. The only part of this idea that I like is expanding the first round to best-of-seven. Seven game series are fluky enough; five are even worse.
  2. The wall that Lucroy hit wasn't much worse than Pierzynski's entire season. Pierzysnki is no better than Kottaras defensively and inferior offensively.
  3. I was going to make the same point. McGehee wouldn't be a plus bat at first, but there are worse options. Lyle Overbay, for example, is no offensive upgrade over McGehee. McGehee is awful at third, so he's my choice to move if it's internal. Ideally, I'd trade McGehee, sign an outfielder, and move Hart to first.
  4. Yeah, I actually think they'd have to include one of Gamel or Lawrie along with two of Odorizzi, Jeffress, Rogers, Braddock, etc.
  5. Next year there's no chance any of those pitchers could be that good. If any one of the three ends up that good, it's a success. Proven aces are the scarcest commodity in the league.
  6. This will probably be yet another frustrating instance of a top player blocking a deal to Milwaukee that we won't hear about for a while.
  7. I'm sure there has been instances, but I don't think I remember a team hiring on an interim manager.
  8. Interesting thought, but I'm not sure I've ever heard of a guy's walk rate going down immediately upon reaching the majors. It's much more likely that he just happened to have a good couple of starts. I'd probably start both Rogers and Jeffress in the bullpen in AAA (or piggyback them) for the first two months, then stretch them out as starters in June so they're ready for a potential callup in July or any time after.
  9. We have to get past this inferiority complex. I didn't mean the city of Milwaukee or anything like that. I mean the team itself. Seattle has some great pitching, Ichiro (the Japanese link), and a higher payroll ceiling. The Mets and Cubs have more money available as well. He has a better chance to win in those places in all likelihood. And for all we know, he might prefer Toronto for the chance to win in the best division. If he doesn't win there, he has a built-in excuse.
  10. If Bobby Valentine is actually interested in managing, wouldn't he top everyone's list? I don't see why he'd choose Milwaukee.
  11. What's to hate about winning nearly every year? That's the only brand of baseball i care about. They won because of their pitching and defense, and in spite of "Sciosciaball." He bunts, hits and runs, and steals way too much.
  12. I can't help but really hope they don't hire anyone from the Angels. I hate their brand of baseball.
  13. Victor Martinez is awesome!
  14. That's like when Counsell finally ditched the lightning rod stance, except times 1000.
  15. Certainly retiring his number wouldn't be appropriate, but he's a walk-of-fame guy. If Jim Gantner is there, Sheets should be. Sheets didn't throw complete games? Based on his era, he threw complete games more than 90% of starters in all likelihood.
  16. How dare you speak ill of Jayson Werth's fantastic beard? http://www.mtrmedia.com/.a/6a00e5513d181b88340134857c634b970c-pi
  17. That could work well. I like the idea of rotating them every other time through the rotation. Each could pitch in relief a bit on the time around in which he isn't starting. Seems like a good way to limit innings while still maximizing value and building up their arms for the future. I agree that it will never happen.
  18. Still--that's not the point here. The point is that they threw at him once, then threw at him AGAIN in the same game. And he didn't even do anything wrong to the Marlins themselves. That's bush league on their part, and I don't blame him at all for charging.
  19. I interned for the Brewers in the summer of 2005. I embarrassingly fell during the office kickball game (played at Helfair Field) and sprained my wrist pretty badly. I was in a splint for about a week. As if that wasn't embarrassing enough, a couple days later in the office, I notice Jeff Cirillo walking through. This was during the time he was out with a broken hand after being hit by a pitch. He noticed my arm, walked up to me and said, "So, you too, huh?" He talked to me for a minute or two, and of course asked how I did it. I sheepishly told him, and he just smiled and said "Ohh, ouch." Awesome and embarrassing at the same time.
  20. Saliva Three Doors Down Papa Roach Red Jumpsuit Apparatus Panic! At the Disco Neutral Milk Hotel is so fantastic that I can't dislike the name.
  21. Have to disagree here. He should have happily taken his base the first time, which he did. Getting thrown at a second time was overkill. I'd probably have done the same thing.
  22. 1. Cardinals 2. Cubs 3. Yankees 4. Angels 5. Red Sox
  23. Baldkin is right. He's hit a ton of singles this month.
