  1. Amazing that Lee didn't finish top three.
  2. This really seems like a good deal for Colorado. I think Paulino still has upside.
  3. It's not like players need to stay here year-round. It's different than, say, the NBA, where players need to live here during the winter.
  4. Remember when Doug almost traded Cameron for Melky? That was gross.
  5. For one, his batting average on balls in play the last few years were huge. Because he has such a low walk rate, the ball is put in play fairly often. The Marlins have a bad defense, so it hurt him. Now, you could certainly make the point that the Brewers' defense offers no improvement from that. Still, his peripherals have been great and it's reflected in his xFIP. 2008: 3.75 2009: 3.28 2010: 3.55 I still see him as a strong number two starter.
  6. Bah. I can't say I'm surprised that he'd block Milwaukee, but I was sure hoping that he'd block bigger market teams based on what's been reported. I suppose if they worked out a deal and had a chance to talk to him, he might be convinced to waive it.
  7. Nobody's saying they should give him 24 mil a year. The point is that if they give him, say, 4 years/40 mil, he should be expected to earn the contract.
  8. I was considering Gamel the long-term answer at third, not McGehee. I expect Fielder to still be here this year. Granted, that's a fairly big assumption, but I still think it's likely. I agree that the Dayton Moore factor could work in our favor.
  9. Yep. I'm a huge Badger fan, but I really feel as though I've been sucked in for the last time until they actually make a run in March. Last year I was telling everyone they'd make a deep run, and then they lost to another mid-major. It's like they turn into a different team.
  10. Arroyo and Padilla are other options that may not cost too much. Both were better than just about everyone on the Brewers other than Yo last year.
  11. I agree they can't really move Lawrie unless Weeks is extended. If they do extend Weeks, the Brewers have long-term answers at second, third, left, and right. That's why I said Lawrie was expendable. I imagine they do have enough ammo to get Greinke without including Lawrie, but I figured that would just about empty the pitching in the Brewers' system.
  12. The more I think about this, the more I really think it works. 1. The Royals are open to trading Greinke. 2. Greinke has a partial no trade, but reportedly does not want to pitch in a big market. 3. The Brewers have the prospects to get him between the likes of Lawrie, Odorizzi, Jeffress, Rogers, etc. 4. Lawrie is expendable if Weeks is extended. 5. The Brewers can afford Greinke's salary the next two years, unlike many non-big market teams. I don't agree with the sentiment that the Brewers are much more than "one pitcher away." Greinke is a great pitcher who would make the Brewers as good as anyone in the NL Central. If the Royals are at all open to it, the Brewers need to go after this hard.
  13. Makes you wonder... Was it Carpenter golfing with Halladay, or was it Wainwright?
  14. I still wouldn't be surprised if they don't trade him. I just don't think his value will be as high on the trade market as it would be to the Brewers for another year.
  15. The Brewers absolutely can't go into the season with one of those three in their starting rotation. They should be viewed as emergency starters only.
  16. Nice to see interest in a good defender, but it doesn't really matter if he can't hit at all. He had a .714 OPS in AAA last year.
  17. Kuroda, Vazquez, Bedard, Webb should all interest them. I like Pavano a lot, but he's a terrible fit here with the Brewers' awful defense.
  18. And spend an inning and a half doing so.
  19. Gamel is the one that jumped out at me. That'd be a great first full season for him.
  20. Add Greinke, keep fielder, trade McGehee (getting something in return, plus improving the defense) and you're looking at a pretty solid improvement. That team would be right up there with Cinci and St. Louis.
  21. Did he think these quotes wouldn't make it back to the organization? How stupid.
  22. How could adding Greinke be depending on luck? He's a known commodity, someone who is a proven ace. The Brewers prospects are anything but known commodities. I actually think it'd take more luck to eventually win by holding on to all their prospects than to win next year with Greinke, Yo, Braun, Fielder, and Weeks.
  23. Of course we're all fans of successful stolen bases. I don't see anyone who'd argue that. But it's truly about success rate, and the Angels have hurt themselves by running more than they've helped themselves the last few seasons. Their management's failure to realize that they aren't good at stealing has hurt the team. You admit the impact is incremental. My question, then, is why are so many clamoring for a drastic change in our offensive approach when we've had a top offense for the last several years?
  24. NL Stolen Base Leaders 2010: 13th in runs scored (Mets) 2009: 12th in runs scored (Mets) 2008: 8th in runs scored (Rockies) 2007: 4th in runs scored (Mets) 2006: 3rd in runs scored (Mets) 2005: 7th in runs scored (Mets) NL Walk Leaders 2010: 5th in runs scored (Braves) 2009: 2nd in runs scored (Rockies) 2008: 1st in runs scored (Cubs) 2007: 1st in runs scored (Phillies) 2006: 1st in runs scored (Phillies) 2005: 2nd in runs scored (Phillies) NL Home Run Leaders 2010: 1st in runs scored (Reds) 2009: 1st in runs scored (Phillies) 2008: Tied for 2nd in runs scored (Phillies) 2007: 5th in runs scored (Brewers) 2006: 2nd in runs scored (Braves) 2005: 1st in runs scored (Reds) You know what creates more runs than stolen bases? On-base percentage and home runs. There is NO CORRELATION between stolen bases and runs scored.
  25. I also hate Sciosciaball. They stole like crazy last year, but were only successful 66.6%. That's horrendous and gives away way too many outs. I don't get why so many people are down on the Brewers hitting home runs. They were fourth in the NL in runs scored this year and third in 2009. Why are they trying to change the approach?
